www.gibbonsschool.ca Principal’s Message: Happy New Year to everyone! Teachers and students have been collaboratively working together to re-teach positive expected behaviors on the playground, hallway, bathroom and classroom. Students have been working hard to demonstrate mutual respect, attentiveness, responsibility and appreciation. Parents, volunteers, teachers’, staff and students have provided valuable feedback in support of our focus and our success‼ Thank you! We need all of you to continue being successful in all of our goal areas! When school is a positive, safe and fun place to be, the learning becomes remarkable! Your support at home is essential in making this happen. Every night, please set aside time for your child to discuss their day with you as well as practicing some academic work. Reading as well as math facts and other math problems are a few examples of areas your child can work in. Just 10-15 minutes of practice each day can be the difference in making tremendous gains and give your child every learning advantage now and in their future. Please connect with your child’s teacher on specific ways that may support the needs of your child. A closed campus exists to assist the school in ensuring a safe and

caring environment. Students are not allowed off school premises

unless a parent contacts the school via phone/note to have the student

attend an appointment or be involved in a specific activity. Should you

have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please contact

Mrs. Kristine Wilkinson, Principal, or Mr. Iain Jamieson, Vice Principal.

Severe Nut Allergies

We have students who have severe allergic reactions to nuts. If

exposed to nuts, their reaction may place them in a life-threatening

situation. In providing as safe an environment as possible, we

encourage our students to not share their food with others. If students

are bringing treats for others, we ask that they be free of nut products.

Your assistance in limiting these products being brought into the school

is appreciated. We would also ask parents/guardians to inform the

school if their child(ren) have any life threatening allergies so that we

may better protect your children’s health. Please contact the school

office at (780) 923-2240.

Absentee Check

If your child will be absent for the day please contact the school as

soon as possible at 780-923-2240. Absentee checks will be done each

morning, and automated calls will be made to verify attendance for

those students marked absent.

MIDGET FOOTBALL

Fort Sask. Minor Football is wanting to start a Midget Team in Fort Saskatchewan. Midget

football is grades 9, 10 & 11. It will have the same boundaries as our other teams: Bantam, Pee

Wee & Atom. The seasons runs from early April until May with practices starting in March. We need

player commitment by Jan 31, 2016. In order to move forward in the process we need a

commitment of 24 players, as soon as possible.

During the season we will need parent volunteers, also.

If you are interested please contact Jennifer Kobza, team manager, at

[email protected] or (780)914-5216 as soon as possible. There

is more information about the midget league at www.cdmfa.ca.

Thanks for your interest. We are looking forward to another great sea-

son of football!
