WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR PRODUCT AND WHY

A production company is responsible for the development and filming of a specific production or media broadcast. In

entertainment, the production process begins with the development of a specific project.

PRODUCTION COMPANIES

Our film is a Slasher horror film which was influenced by films such as A

Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream. Both of these films show a young

woman being killed very violently and our film is very similar to this.

Firstly, I researched Slasher Horror films and researched what media institutions distribute them.

The most popular companies that came up were:- Universal Pictures- Dimension Films- New Line Cinema

Dimension films is an American film production company owned by The Weinstein Company.

It was formerly used as Bob Weinstein's label within, Miramax Films, to produce and release genre films. The Weinstein Brothers took this label with them when they departed the Disney-owned Miramax in

October 2005.The studio's movie franchises include the later Halloween films,

Scream, Spy Kids and Scary Movie.As of 1992, the company usually releases horror films, comedy films and action films, although Spy Kids are the only family series that

Dimension released. This would be a good distributer as they usually release horror films,

this would mean there would be more chance in them distributing my product.

The types of films that Dimension films have distributed are very similar to my media product.

Dimension Films have distributed other ‘Slasher’ horror films such as:

New Line Film Productions Inc., often simply referred to as New Line Cinema, is an American

film studio. It was founded in 1967 by Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne as a film distributor, later becoming an independent film studio. It

became a subsidiary of Time Warner in 1996 and was merged with larger sister studio Warner

Bros. in 2008.New line cinema have distributed many

successful ‘Slasher’ horror films which is why it would distribute my film. My film is a ‘Slasher’ horror film similar to Scream and Halloween.

Universal Studios Inc. (also known as Universal Pictures), is an American motion picture studio, owned by Comcast, and is one of the six major movie studios. It is one of the longest-lived motion

picture studios to be located outside of Hollywood. It is a sub division of American media conglomerate NBCUniversal.

Universal have distributed various successful horror films and are a very well known company.

Universal pictures would be a good distributer because they are a very well known company our product would be advertised well.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES

FILMS UNIVERSAL PICTURES HAVE DISTRIBUTED

A big, well known company would be best suited to distribute our film. This is because our target audience are young adult males, and because of the genre of our film it

would be of intrest to those who enjoy Slasher horror films. Also, our film is similar to that of Scream and A Nightmare On Elm Street which are very successful films distributed

by major film production companies.
