committees in the college and department, including tuition, quality

assurance, research and community engagement. Actively involved in

curriculum development and industry liaison as well as the

presentation of workshops to large corporate organisations.

Currently supervising nine doctoral students and 11 masters

students. In 2015 five masters and one doctoral student have already

submitted.

OTHER INVOLVEMENT

Editor

o Initiated and started the International Retail and Marketing Review. Operating since 2003; two issues per annum. It was accredited by the department of education of South Africa in 2013 with effect from 2014. This academic journal is therefore on the list of the approved journals for universities and for which the Department of Education pay subsidy to the university for articles published in the journal. The journal is operated in my private capacity and belongs to me.

Consulting work

o Actively involved in consulting to small, medium and large organisations in marketing and strategy for over 30 years. Contacts build up in the consulting business is used in the generation of cases and other industry liaison actions in order to improve the link between theory and practice.

Project leader

o I am project leader for various short learning programmes (informal programmes) aimed at industry. These programmes are designed with the needs of industry and a strong focus on practical application of the theory. These programmes articulate into the formal programmes of the department.

External evaluator/Examiner

o I am an external examiner for a number of South African Universities and most recently for Unitec NZ. I am also a moderator for the IMM which is the major marketing association in South Africa.

Reviewer of articles/Editorial board member

o Review articles for various journals and institutions; member of editorial board on a number of international journals.

Workshops to Industry

A number of workshops are offered to large companies such as Pepkor, Shoprite, House and Home, OK Furnishers, Foschini, Pep stores, etc. These are related to the informal programmes offered to their staff in some instances. We also have an appointment to offer two day workshops of Customer Relationship Management and Customer Experience management to one of the largest retailers in South Africa. These are offered to top management, regional management, and branch managers throughout the company which employs over 18000 workers. These workshops are very practically orientated and has an application activity included in the programme.

1999 to February 2015: CoD – Marketing and Retail Department

o Chair of Department with 26 staff members, responsible for staff development; course design; development of new product offerings (degrees, diplomas, short learning programmes); liaison with business community, part of management of college, faculty, senate. There are at present over 25 000 module registrations in marketing. New qualifications developed and designed and introduced in 2012. Currently these are being reviewed again.

o Responsible for managing the development of study material in the field of marketing such as consumer behaviour; relationship marketing; marketing research; retail management; strategic marketing; product and price management; promotion and distribution management; cyber-marketing; marketing management, social media, and sales management

o Promoter for M and D Com students.o Chairman of departmental marketing committee; member of

faculty marketing committee, tuition committee, research committee, School Exco and Manco.

o Research projects within the Department of Marketing and Retail are a combination of group and individual efforts. Research projects related to students and the department are conducted with the aim of developing the research skills of junior staff – thereby the research potential of the department and the university are broadened

Explanation of what we mean by an accredited journal. These are journals that the Department of Education approve as being of a sufficient standard to pay the university subsidy on for each published article. These articles are used as basis for the promotion of lecturers as well as the application for NRF ratings.
