For the past few years, Promo Magazine has produced content with the goal of diversifying aesthetics. By featuring people of color and/or LGBT artists, musicians, designers, and culture-makers in our magazine, we’ve attempted to increase represen-tation in media. When conceiving of a fashion issue, we thought that it was important to put what we do in dialogue with mainstream

fashion. most By releasing content at a time when all eyes are trend-hunting, we hope to interrupt the regularly scheduled flow to showcase real people and their stories.

When MBFW approached to contribute to Promo Magazines’ Fashion Issue, it was an interesting request because we don’t think of ourselves as particularly fashion-forward. Rather, we seek to represent beauty and style as we see it — or rather, how we feel it should

be seen more generally. we’re trying to break conventional habits in representation and show why diverse representation matters.

Unlike a title, talent and taste are two things that are not necessarily passed on from one generation to the next. But an exception to the rule is the Missoni family: From matriarch Rosita to daughter Angela to granddaughters Margherita and Teresa and grandson

Francesco, there is something inherently stylish in all of them. It’s not just their way with color and the mix of patterns that made their brand a worldwide success—it’s also their infectious joie de vivre.
