This ceremony, on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, was a tribute to not just those whose lives were lost on 9/11, but for veterans and all those who currently serve us and protect us on a daily basis, from Police, to Firemen, to EMS and to the Military. Below you will read the tribute from keynote speaker Kelly Kelkenberg, Colonel, USAF, Ret …..”

“Expect inspirational Music, heart thumping Bands, live Singing and Dancing, motivational Guest Speakers and heartfelt Gratitude, as we honor our Living Heroes, those who serve us and put their lives on the line for us every day.

Shirley Lasseter, Commissioner District 1, Gwinnett County has been waiting for this day since 2004. Serving as Duluth Mayor at that time, and founder of the living honorarium , she first envisioned the value of such a monument, and quickly gained private funding from local businesses and friends supporting her positive concept…”

“…through the night with the light from above…”

“The recent unveiling of the new Duluth Living Honorarium on Sept 11 provided a further opportunity for Duluth Merchants Association (DMA) to promote their upcoming “Light up the Lights” Living Honorarium” Motorcycle Ride on Oct 15th.

Kelly Kelkenberg, currently running for Duluth City Council and active member in the community, met with Jim Johnson, of JMS Consulting and current DMA Vice President, to help get the word out. “We need Sponsors and Riders for this worthy cause!” said Jim. “It will be an enjoyable day for the whole family, starting with the 11th annual Kiwanis pancake breakfast at Bunten Rd Park, and ending at lunchtime at Duluth Town Square with food vendors, door prizes and fun for everyone: you don’t have to ride a motorcycle to join in the fun!”

“What do you get when you coordinate Duluth Kiwanis, Duluth Merchants

Association, and Duluth High School Key Club, with Duluth City Police on a chilly…breath in the air…Saturday morning? You

get a warm and fuzzy family style breakfast, and a motorcycle ride that turns on your heart light…Kiwanis members, Jim Barns, Bruce Saarela, and George Rhode, along with Duluth Merchants Association leaders, Sunny Ramsay and Jim Johnson huddled to organize their thoughts. “An hour from now several hundred mouths

will be asking us for $5.00 worth of yummy, all you can eat pancakes, sausage,

juice, milk and coffee…”

Breast Cancer Awareness Month…Got Pink? “Some of us are survivors, some of us raise money, some of us try to avoid the thought; but most of us have been touched by breast cancer in some way...Every year, our Duluth friend, Kelly Kelkenberg sports a polished pink “pinkie” the entire month of October....We definitely agree that this pink “pinkie” is an attention getter…

And on Oct 8th we had the privilege of attending the annual American Cancer Society “Dancing with the Stars of Atlanta” event at the Gwinnett Civic We watched as Judge Melodie Snell Conner, Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter and Representative Brooks Coleman all participated in a ballroom dance competition…these three local “stars” spent their time, effort and passion to …to help support this worthy cause!...”

Cold Day Welcomes Hot Item For BoomersJan 3, 2012

“Coldest morning of the year (ok, ok: so this is only the 3rd day of the new year, but at 25 degrees, it was frigid cold outside!) found us bundled and huddled at 10 a.m. at WP Jones Park for the new Duluth Active Adult Activity Building Ground Breaking Ceremony. Parks & Recreation Director, Kathy Marelle kicked off the ceremony, handing the first shovel to Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris. Fellow Council Members , Duluth City Staff, and President of the Duluth FAB Senior Advisory Board Herb Link with several other FAB Board Members joined the Mayor and Kathy in attempting to turn a bit of hard ground in honor of the occasion…”
