@properties Commercial Brokers Restaurant Lease in Clybourn
Corridor
CHICAGO, April 13, 2010 A local restaurateur has signed a
15-year lease for 7,000 square
feet of street-level retail space at 1578 N. Clybourn Ave., in
the Clybourn Corridor. John
McLean, a former executive and Chef d Cuisine with the Levy
Organization, plans to open two
restaurants: a 5,000-square-foot gourmet burger bar and a
2,000-square-foot wood-fired pizza
restaurant and wine bar. The lease also includes an adjoining
surface parking lot with space for
approximately 15 cars.
Danny Spitz, vice president of @properties Commercial,
represented the building owner,
Angelo Loukas. Tony Piernunzi of Cornerstone Real Estate
Services represented the tenant.
Most recently, the space was occupied by kitchen design showroom
KDA, which closed in 2008.
Previously it was the site of The Golden Ox, a German-American
restaurant and Chicago dining
institution for more than 75 years. Since the Golden Ox shut its
doors a decade ago, the area
has experienced major development. Today the site is surrounded
by national retailers including
Home Depot, Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, the Container Store
and Whole Foods. It is also directly
across the street from the new Apple Store, which is slated for
a June opening.
Despite the retail boom, Spitz said there is still a dearth of
restaurants in the area. This is really
an ideal location for casual sit-down dining. You have
phenomenal visibility and traffic numbers,
the Red Line station is across the street, there are thousands
of shoppers per day, and theres a
growing professional workforce. A restaurant makes a lot of
sense, said Spitz.
The two restaurants are schedule to open this summer.
