Domenico Pirazzoli

Happy 25th birthday!!!It was the autumn of 1987 when – together with Norberto and Alessandro Ferretti sitting at a coffee bar in Forlì – we agreed to create a high-end magazine for our yacht owners. We started from the simple but proper intuition that our customers – actual or potential – would enjoy receiving an exclusive publication talking in an outright, fair and honest manner. This is how PROTAGONIST was born, a story of love and passion, a magazine which renews itself every three months, and today it is re-garded as one of the most exclusive luxury product house-organs worldwide. This is the 100th issue of PROTAGONIST, celebrating its 25th anniversary. I founded it and directed it for these twenty-five years, and the time has now come to hand over the baton and enjoy my retirement after such intensive working years. I wish to thank all those who have worked with me and been close to me in the course of this wonderful adventure; a “family” and a wonder-ful world which has enriched me from both a human and professional perspective. The Ferretti Group I leave is stronger; thanks to the solidity of the Weichai Group and the skill and professionalism of the people working there, I am sure that Ferruccio Rossi will be an “excellent helmsman”, steering the ship in the right direction to be once again a world leader in the luxury motor yachting industry.

Good luck to everyone,

a o

An exhibition reveals the connection between the Spanish artist and the city of Chicago.Art InstItute of ChICAgo

one hundred times picasso

From the 20th of February to the 13th of March, the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois, will host an important exhi-bition celebrating the immense genius of Pablo Picasso, a man whose life has paralleled, at least in terms of en-

thusiasm, his incredible creative genius.More than 250 works among paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings, make for an exhibition rich in contents which – over and above the undisputed artistic value – serve the purpose of

commemorating the close connection between the Spanish artist and the “windy city”, as Chicago is popularly known.Apart from including among its attractions an imposing sculpture by Picasso himself, the metropolis in fact has the merit of having introduced him to the US public on the occasion of the Armory Show – which by the way celebrates its one hundredth anniver-sary in 2013 – the first actual exhibition of avant-garde art from Europe.

The exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to look at Picasso’s work from an original perspective, encompassing the wide range explorations on which he embarked in the course of his career. The numerous exhibits on display include all the works which the Art Institute of Chicago has collected starting from that first funda-mental meeting, as far back as 1913. From the figurative drawings Seated Male Nude and Sketches of a Young Woman and a Man (1905 and 1904/05) to the famous Old Guitarist (1903-1904), to the work on paper – an example of this being the monumental Woman Washing Her Feet (1944) – the paintings such as Mother and Child (1921) and important sculptures including the cubist work Head of a Woman (Fernande) (1909). Mention should also be made of more iconic pieces, such as The Frugal Meal (1904), one of the best examples of the much-vaunted Blue Period.Apart from offering visitors a glimpse on the meaning of the pro-lific work by this artist, the exhibition also analyses his poetic style, focusing for example on the emotions underlying the Blue and Pink periods, on the value of geometric forms during the Cubist years and on the strong symbolic value of his production after World War II. Open from the 20th of February to the 13th of March, the exhibi-tion Picasso and Chicago is an intimate and fascinating journey to discover one of the most influential geniuses in the 20th century.

Art InstItute of ChICAgo

cento volte picasso

Dai disegni figurativi Seated Male Nude e Sketches of a Young Woman and a Man (1905 e 1904/05) al famoso Old Guitarist (1903-1904) fino ai lavori su carta – un esempio è il monumentale Woman Washing Her Feet (1944) – i dipinti come Mother and Child (1921) e le importanti sculture, compresa l’opera cubista Head of a Woman (Fernande) (1909).

After the renovation, Princess Sissi’s rooms in Palazzo Reale are opened to the public. Correr MuseuM, VenICe

Venice, Piazza San Marco, 1856. After the fall of Napo-leon III the city is under Hapsburg dominion. A dis-contented crowd gets ready to welcome the new royal couple, Francis Joseph of Austria and Elizabeth of Wit-

telsbach, who has gone down in history as “Princess Sissi” and become popular more recently thanks to Romy Schneider’s playing the part in the famous films by Ernst Marischka.Seduced by the fascination of the city, during her visits Sissi stayed in the nine rooms of the Austrian Imperial Apartments at Palazzo Reale, now returned to visitors from all over the world after an exceptional renovation work which brought them back to their an-cient splendour. Mention should be made in particular of the Sala delle Udienze and study, of the bedroom – with the sumptuous

neo-Baroque blue and light gold upholstery – and of the charm-ing boudoir. The toiletry room, tailor-made for Sissi with decor by the then famous decorator Giovanni Rossi, has ceilings with very fine marmorino marble and shining microcrystals, while the cen-tral medallion shows the Goddess protecting the Arts whose facial traits remind us of the Hapsburg sovereign. The imperial atmosphere is further underscored by the upholstery true to the original and by the valuable furniture dating to the Napoleonic age.The Fondazione Musei Civici in Venice has made the room part of the visitors’ path through Museo Correr: an original route which is an addition to the square-front section, rediscovering the never forgotten legend of the elegant and beautiful Empress.

V enezia, Piazza San Marco, 1856.

A rievocare l’atmosfera imperiale, tappezzerie fedeli a quelle originali e preziosi arredi d’epoca napoleonica.

Aesthetic preciousness, mechanical perfection:

timeless masterpieces

A rare and valuable asset, jewels of mechanics and el-egance to be collected and passed on with care: these are the watches by Patek Philippe, the last independent family-run manufacturer in Geneva, unanimously rec-

ognized since 1839 as one of the best high-end watch producers in the world. The Patek Philippe production, over the past few years, has been especially focused on Complicated Watches and on Grand Com-plication, designed for both men and women. The firm recently launched the à rattrapante Ref. 5204 chronograph featuring a perpetual calendar, a watch which completes the trilogy of chron-ographs with movements entirely designed and manufactured in-house. With the new CHR 29-535 PS Q calibre, this Grand Com-plication has all the qualities that fascinate the true connoisseurs, from manual charging to the two column wheels and horizontal clutch. A jewel of micromechanics – for which Patek Philippe entirely reprocessed the rattrapante mechanism – enclosed in a platinum case with a 40 mm diameter and 14.9 thickness, and a sapphire or crystal transparent base. The case is decorated by a small diamond set to six o’clock, while the hand-sewn strap is made of alligator opaque black scales. For women, who seem to be increasingly fond of Complicated Watches, the Geneva firm created the Ladies First Perpetual Cal-endar Ref. 7140, the first in its kind. A refined and timeless watch with a traditional Calatrava-style round case made of 18 carat pink gold, a valuable 68 diamond Top Wesselton Pur decoration on the lunette and buckle and straps made of mink-grey or purple alliga-tor. With its 35.10 mm diameter and 8.8 mm thickness, the watch is characterised by a transparent sapphire crystal base which pro-vides a partial view of the 275 elements in its mechanism.

C haracterised by an unmistakable identity and by style traits which meet in the essence of the Italian way of life, the Itama brand today is a winning fleet which keeps in-troducing refined and important novelties in all its mod-

els, from the most consolidated to the most recent ones. Among the most relevant innovations adopted by the brand designed by Marco Casali, mention should be made of the surfaces below deck entirely covered in teak, which gives the yacht an even cosier and more “marine” appearance, as well as the possibility of customizing the hull colour. These new features, for example, also embellish hull number 15 of the Itama 75’, the flagship from the shipyard and true icon of elegance which with this launch – that took place a few months ago, more than four years after the model was offi-cially launched – confirms the brand’s liveliness on the market and

the interest on the part of “Itamists” in this open yacht. For the hull the traditional blue colour was chosen, which matches well the surface below deck entirely made of teak, while the layout chosen is standard, with three cabins: the owner’s which is full beam, the VIP cabin forwards and the guest cabin with twin beds. The windshield is made of carbon and autoclave-moulded crystal, guaranteeing top performance in terms of speed and consump-tion, saving about 60% in weight. The sporty profile of the yacht is further increased by the retractable telescopic gangway integrated in the hull, an innovation which was introduced – and highly ap-preciated – in the Itama 45’ and Itama 62’. The latter two crafts share with the flagship all the most recent innovations, apart of course from the brand’s unmistakable charm. Working on the features of two illustrious predecessors such as the Forty and Itama 38’, open yachts which made the shipyard famous worldwide, Itama 45’ stands out for its restyled aft de-sign, where the mirror inclination was changed to make the exter-nal lines more dynamic. Designed to meet the individual owner’s needs, this yacht is also characterised by user-friendly spaces and outstanding liveability.Just as charming and appreciated is the Itama 62, a yacht which fully enhances the feeling of freedom during navigation thanks to an assertive character which is accompanied by truly distinc-tive performance levels. Preserving the style details chosen by the shipyard in its latest creations – crystal windshield, carbon in the bridge deck finishing, use of steel and teak in the helm and the electro-hydraulic bimini top to shield the yacht in a few seconds – the Itama 62’ is characterised by a contemporary design which optimises spaces and ensures maximum brightness.A really complete fleet which, apart from seducing with its unmis-takable style, keeps offering innovations and functional solutions which are highly appreciated by yacht owners.

scomparsa mediante sfilo integrata nello scafo, novità introdotta – e davvero molto apprezzata – in Itama 45’ e Itama 62’.

T he spring will officially mark the arrival of the largest planing recreational craft ever built by Ferretti Yachts, a 96-foot flagship with a sporty profile and characterised by top-of-the-range performances based on an optimised

layout. The new Ferretti 960 enhances the project trend followed over the past few years, representing the perfect evolution of the previous flagship – the Ferretti 881 – whose hull design and wa-terlines it preserves, but with numerous substantial developments. This is the outcome of the close collaboration between Studio Zuc-con International Project, AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology and the team of architects and designers at Centro Stile Ferrettigroup; the Ferretti 960 is only available in the version with raised helm station. Thanks to its 29.20 metre overall length and hull length below 24 metres, this pleasure boat really sets the standard for

livability. On the outer profile, the glazing extends along the en-tire main deck, while the low gunwale makes the craft look even “lighter” by further increasing interior brightness. Moreover, the decision to propose only the RPH version allows to make the most of the available space and to expand the main deck flybridge areas. One of the main innovations on the new flagship is the aft area, which was accurately designed to improve its functionality, al-though it has been transformed in an area entirely used for leisure activities. The large garage door is fitted with cushions which turn it into a chaise longue with a view onto the sea, while still preserv-ing the overall layout; the aft swimming platform is fitted with a mobile section which, once the garage door is opened, allows to flood part of the garage and let the tender slide into the water smoothly and – most importantly – with no need for a davit.

Page 24: Protagonist N. 100/Winter 2013

The cockpit glazed door grants access to the main deck interiors, featuring an ample open space salon divided into the living and dining areas, accessible from three entrances, fitted with a service dinette. The long uninterrupted glazing – which, upon the Owner’s request may be replaced by sliding glass doors connecting the salon to the sidedecks – also thanks to the lowering of the gun-wales, grants a wonderful view on the sea all around.Liveability on board is really outstanding, the new Ferretti Yachts flagship is in fact the first planing recreational craft produced by the brand featuring five large cabins: four guest cabins on the lower deck and the master cabin forwards, on the main deck, de-signed to offer the maximum privacy without any noise distur-bance whatsoever and elegantly lit in order to enhance geometric features and decors. On the upper deck, on the mezzanine floor, is the large helm sta-tion with a co-pilot seat and a large glazed surface for optimal view. The spacious flybridge includes the helm station with an

electrically-adjustable height seat on the left-hand side. Behind it is the large U-shaped sofa with two separate tables that can be joined together by installing two wooden trays filling the gap be-tween them. To starboard is the co-pilot seat and, behind it, the bar area with two cabinets containing the fridge (and ice-maker upon request), sink, grill and a raised top. The aft sunbathing area can host a Jacuzzi. The entire aft area is sheltered by the hard top with a central opening section. It is surrounded by a series of handrails and may be furnished with sofas and freestanding seats.Below deck, the four “twin” guest cabins are all soundproof, en-suite with separate shower cubicles; the two forwards ones are fitted with sliding beds as an option. The most striking feature in these cabins is the large Alcantara headboard behind the double beds, which covers the whole height of the wall. Also the performance levels are top of the range, with three engine options, all MTU sets. The standard version has two 16V 2000 M84, 2218 mhp engines, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 27.5 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots; the two optional solu-tions are either twin 16V M93, 2435 mhp engines or twin 16V M94, 2638 mhp engines. In the former case the maximum speed will be 29 knots and the cruising speed 25; the latter, more power-ful version, will be able to reach a peak of 31 knots and a cruising speed of 27 knots (preliminary data). The ARG (Anti Rolling Gyro) system is standard and ensures the maximum comfort on board.

up with something at the end of a race!” – laughs the champion, originally from Bologna “I just have a little bit of a bighead!” Pos-sibly. But mainly he has great strength. And a great heart. His great friend Jimmy Vasser, the US motor-racing impresario, had always laughed about Zanardi’s show-off tendencies, and called him on the eve of the race to tell him ‘If you win gold, I’m going to put you in a car for the Indy 500.’ The champion called him the next day; ready to take him up on that promise. “I will never dump hand-cycling as long as I have an ounce of power in my arms but if a good opportunity before Rio comes to add one wheel and an engine, why not?”In Brands Hatch his average racing time was 38.65 kph. The last time he took part in the Paralympics four years ago, he laughed saying that he had raced at least five times faster at the World Touring Car Championship, when he started driving without his legs on board a special car. What was the difference this time? “I had never won here before” – he explained happily. In 1991 he got in second, in 2008 third. “I was ecstatic when I found out that we would be running in Brands Hatch. It is a track I have always loved, even though now I look at it from a different perspective”.And after the medal? “Of course, I was a little bit emotional. I can’t say it is any better or worse than my big motor-racing wins but it’s just at the top of the scale with many of the other great moments I’ve been lucky enough to live.” In conclusion, nothing seems able to get him down, but do not tell him he is a source of inspiration: “I am nothing special” – he said modestly. “If I have one talent it’s certainly my curiosity. And I really am somebody very lucky. I can carry on with a great life, a very happy life, even just picking up a fishing rod and going out fishing with my son Niccolò. I don’t need anything but if some-thing special comes along...” His eyes brighten up. Here’s your next adventure, Alex!

H e sits laughing on the race track. He might not have legs but he has a strong arm pointing to the sky and lifting in the air the ultra-light hand-bike with which he recently won a gold for Italy at the Paralympics in

London. Everyone on the historic Brands Hatch track cheers him on, everyone wants to celebrate with him: he is the extraordinary Alex Zanardi, the man who first defeated death then started to fight once more until he became a sport hero again. Just when people thought that the Paralympics had no more fairy tales to offer, here is the most wonderful of all, the one of a car racing champion who after a terrible accident, in 2001, lost his legs in Germany – coming very close to losing his life as well – only to return, eleven years later, on top of the podium as Olympic hand-biking champion.“I’ve had a magical adventure, and this is a fantastic conclusion” said the charismatic forty-five year old with his theatrical Italian style after winning the gold medal in the hand–cycling time trial, class H4. “This is a great accomplishment, one of the greatest of my life”.The life of a great man, one might add: Zanardi knows that he could not even be here any more. After 41 Formula 1 Grand Prix races in the 1990s, the accident during the CART Championship in Lausitz – when his car broke in two after being hit by another one at a speed of 200mph – left him ready to receive the last rites on the helicopter, in desperate conditions. His heart stopped, then started beating again as many as seven times, defeating even some studies by NASA regarding the human capability for sur-vival. This is why it was impossible not to smile when Zanardi, after realising that he had won on the same English racing track where 21 years ago he made his debut in the Formula 3000, got off his bike – which he designed himself to fit him like a ‘Cinder-ella shoe’ – to start his exultant celebration sitting in the middle of the track. “You know, I’m Alex Zanardi, I always have to come

Forse.

Ian Chadband, Tom Cary / The Daily Telegraph / The Interview People

The driver also has a high resolution display with a digital instrument panel and a central touch screen system with Dual View function. One of the many innovations is the cutting-edge Land Rover Ter-rain Response® 2 system which independently analyses the ve-hicle’s driving conditions optimising its adjustments. Safety goes hand in hand with motor performance, which is also outstanding: the choice is between two petrol (5.0 litres 375 CV LR-V8 and 510 CV LR-V8 Supercharged) and two diesel solutions (3.0 litres 258 CV TDV6 and 4.4 litres 339 CV SDV8); all of these combined with automatic eight-gear transmission. As regards 2013, there are other surprises in store for the enthusiasts of this legendary car, which has now reached the fourth generation: this year’s pro-duction schedule also includes a hybrid diesel with CO2 emissions estimated at 169 g/Km. Such attention to sustainability has always characterized the Eng-lish brand: indeed the Range Rover 2013 line was entirely pro-duced in the low-environmental impact plant in Solihull, in the United Kingdom.

Hull number 133 from the CRN shipyard is the new steel and aluminum megayacht, under construction at the Ancona shipyard. A majestic and stylish craft which makes the best possible use of the large vol-

umes, to offer the Owner and his guests supreme comfort as well as a more direct link with the sea. With five decks plus the sub deck, this megayacht will host up to 12 people – divided between the five guest cabins plus the master suite – and 15 crew members. On this hull, in particular, the exterior lines and the indoor layout bear the prestigious signature of the architect Francesco Pasz-kowski who worked in close collaboration with the technical office at CRN, which in turn dealt with the naval design. The exteriors, instead, are by Studio Aiello. The distinctive trademarks of this craft – also shared by other meg-ayachts built by CRN at the shipyard in the Marche region – are the technological solutions and open spaces which define a new way of experiencing the sea, as in the terrace available for the two guests cabins on the main deck and the beach club, with the stern hatch which opens up turning into a spacious beach just above the water. The interiors are designed with the utmost care: from the main deck you enter the large main salon and a dining area, accessible from the aft entrance. Towards the bow you have the round lobby which separates the salon from the kitchen and from the first sleeping area, consisting of two VIP double cabins with en-suite

head. On the lower deck there are three other VIP double cabins, one of them full beam. This is also the crew area, with rooms ac-curately separated in order to ensure the Owner and his guests the utmost privacy. Also on the lower deck, the whole aft section is dedicated to relaxa-tion, with the hatch that opens up to reveal the large beach club; towards the bow there are two large garages, ideal for a pair of tenders and jet ski. On the upper deck – entirely dedicated to the Owner’s quarters – you have a large salon and master suite accessible from the study: the CRN 133 60-metre here achieves truly outstanding comfort and style levels, which make it a point of reference for the whole class. To the bow of the Owner’s cabin there is another private relaxation space, with Jacuzzi, which can be completely transformed into a sunning area. The megayacht also features a fly deck which, from stem to stern, includes a fitness area with large glazed walls and skylight, as well as an hammam and a round lobby which separates the captain’s cabin and a crew cabin from the helm station. The sun deck, totally open, is spacious and extremely cozy, thanks to the sofas for relaxation placed around a large round Jacuzzi, and a large sunning area on the bow protected by windshields. The M/Y CRN 133 60-metre has twin Caterpillar 3512 C-C 1’230 kW@1800 rpm engines, which allow for a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots (preliminary data).

G reat previews for Pershing, which at the last Boat Show in Genoa presented the Pershing 108’ New Edition, a novel three-engine model resulting from the collabora-tion between the yacht designer Fulvio De Simoni, AYT

- Advanced Yacht Technology and the architect and designer team at Centro Stile Ferretti Group.Confirming the distinguishing style typical of the brand, the new yacht has innovative engineering features, customisation and large volumes which make it a point of reference on the international nautical scenario. The jewel in the crown of the Pershing fleet, this craft – which is almost 33 metres long – also stands out in terms of performance, with an engine divided into three while at the same time caring for the environment: with the three MTU 16 v 2000 M94 L diesel 2638 mhp (1939 kw) engines and the three surface propellers, the

yacht can reach a top speed of over 42 knots. At the same time its autonomy transfer rate is high – more than 1000 miles at 10 knots – whilst fuel consumption at this speed remains contained. Comfort on board is also outstanding: with only the central engine running, the yacht can carry out transfers very silently at a low speed. On board each detail is studied to make sure that the owner and his guests enjoy a versatile and memorable experience: the excel-lence in design is represented by brand names such as Poltrona Frau, Ernestomeda and Armani Casa, with truly innovative details which include, for the first time in a yacht, the use of exclusive outdoor Alcantara on all sunbeds and outdoor sofas. The whole main deck brings to mind refined atmospheres where natural light and astounding spaciousness – the prominent retract-able door, a trademark of the brand which creates a single day

area covering more than 70 sq.mt – merge harmoniously resulting in ideal relaxation spaces. On the sundeck the retractable helm station makes it possible to enjoy the extraordinary power of this boat while sailing. The navi-gation technologies are clearly excellent; the device panel includes cutting-edge solutions such as the Furuno system. The external equipment is complemented by a spacious aft garage with a fold-ing platform to store the tender and one garage at the bow that can hold up to three water toys. Below deck the layout is stylishly designed. The standard layout includes four cabins with en-suite bathroom – one VIP cabin for-ward, one full beam master cabin amidships and two guest cabins, one with twin beds and the other with beds which can be used as

a twin beds or as a king size bed – and three crew cabins. The jewel in the crown of the sleeping area is the master suite, divided on two levels: the sleeping section with Poltrona Frau and Zanotta furnishing and the Business Area which allows the owner to work in peace. The bathroom is luxurious and has stylish details. At the bow there is the large VIP cabin, while on the lower deck you have the Er-nestomeda galley. The Pershing 108’ New Edition is a further step forward in the brand philosophy which – with this yacht – merges the incredible power of the three engines with the elegance of simple yet sophis-ticated design. The result is a mega-yacht which turns any sailing experience into an exciting dream.

A result of the close collaboration between Studio Zuccon International Project, AYT - Advanced Yacht Technol-ogy, and the architects and designers team at Centro Stile Ferretti Group, the Custom Line 100’ expands the

brand’s planing line alongside the 124’, 112’ NEXT and 97’ ver-sions, with the addition of a few important novelties and a particu-larly assertive spirit. Indeed the Custom Line 100’ has the appearance of a model with geometric and modern lines and a very strong character, ideal for those owners looking for a sporty design but unwilling to give up on functionality and volumes, in this case extended through the wide body typology on the upper deck. This is a unique feature on craft in this segment, which makes it possible to optimise the interior layout thus improving the liveability conditions.Externally the overall impression is that of a very lightweight model, thanks to the presence of continuous glazing which ex-tends from the stern of the main deck around to the helm station; mention should also be made of the large triangular glazed surface on both walls, located forwards at the level of the owner’s cabin. Moreover, on request, electrically operated glass doors can be fit-ted to move easily between the salon and the wall through a fold-able saxboard: a real terrace overlooking the sea. From the large cockpit you enter the living area on the main deck, where the Canaletto walnut wood with blonde veining elegantly matches the wengé on the flooring. The front wall of the salon is made of wood, with laminam inserts and Led panels, a result of the careful technical study on lighting conducted by the Shipyard with a view to enhancing some of the interiors. Further along there is the Arclinea galley, which – like the living area – features contem-porary style fittings.

At bow you have the master area, steeped in light through the large windows and extraordinarily quiet. This suite includes a large walk-in closet, a working zone with a desk and carefully chosen furnishing and decor. The very spacious head is characterised by a large shower cubicle.Descending below deck, the lower deck lobby leads to the four guest cabins, all en-suite and offering an open view looking out over the sea.Back on deck, amidships, there is a raised helm station, with a cen-tral control armchair, charting area and a small divan. Towards the stern there is the flybridge with a second helm position providing generous spaces for sun lovers. Upon Owner’s request a tender or jet ski can be installed in this area with a davit for placing them in the water. On the Custom Line 100’ there is plenty of space for outdoor living: a further sunning area has been created on the deckhouse, whilst at bow there is a relaxation area offering complete privacy, with a double L-shaped divan and coffee table. Thanks to its new, high efficiency planing hull, the Custom Line 100’ offers high performance levels without the need for too large, too expensive an engine. The twin MTU 16 V 2000 M94 2639 mhp engines drive the yacht to a top speed of over 26 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots, at which speed the range is close to 400 nautical miles.Apart from the outstanding performance, the craft guarantees maximum comfort in all situations, thanks to the complete Mitsubi-shi ARG (Anti Rolling Gyro) stabilisation system, which reduces rolling by over 50%. Also the acoustic comfort level is excellent: when sailing at 22 knots the sound level in the helm position is 62 dBA and 66 dBA in the owner’s cabin: practically a new point of reference for the whole industry.

“T hink intimate. Think luxurious. But, above all, think harmony.”

The history of a brand that for 150 years has associated flavour and style with the French art de vivre. lAdurée

the maison of pleasure

Ladurée is elegance, sweetness and taste. It is the art of confectionery at the highest levels, a hedonistic trade-mark characterised by aristocratic aesthetics made of vel-vet curtains and vintage accessories. Its decoration style

is based on three eras, or better on three women, which – during different centuries – deeply affected the style codes of their time: Madame de Pompadour, Empress Eugénie and Madeleine Casta-ing. Exactly in 2012 the French firm celebrated its 150th anniversary. It was actually in 1862 that Louis Ernest Ladurée opened a small bakery close to the historic location in Rue Royale, between the Louvre Museum and place Vendôme. Fame, however, only arrived in 1930, when his grandson, Pierre Desfontaines, created what he called double-decker macaron: a double almond-paste disc with a scrumptious ganache cream filling.Until then the preparation of macarons – brought to France by Ca-terina de’ Medici in the 16th century – had involved using only one pastry disc, whereas the creation by Desfontaines turned them into an actual object of desire which was recently celebrated by Sofia

Coppola’s “Marie Antoniette”: in the 2006 film, indeed, the most famous and ambiguous queen of France shows an almost carnal passion for these pastel-coloured pastries, a rainbow of tastes and colours perfectly balancing texture and flavour. In the 1930s, Desfontaines had another brilliant idea: opening a tea room within the bakery: women were not allowed into coffee bars at the time, therefore the idea was extremely successful with the female public. An “expansion” strategy which is still pursued by the brand today, both in terms of service – Ladurée is a restaurant, a chocolate shop and an ice cream parlour – and of geography: the maison is actually present all over the world. It has four stores in Paris alone, from the historic location in Rue Royale with the original frescoes of cherub confectioners, to the modern one in ‘Le Printemps’, the cosy Ladurée Bonaparte and the prestigious venue along the Champs-Elysées, where the delicate original site is enriched by new international trends. Actual pleasure boutiques where the essence of the French art of living emerges in all details, for a gourmet experience which first of all goes through refined and distinctive aesthetics.

S urrendering to the sea to appreciate its true beauty by directly and harmoniously connecting with nature. For the yacht owner embracing this philosophy, Mochi Craft presents Dolphin 54’, a magnificent lobster boat resulting

from the cooperation between the architect Brunello Acampora of Studio Victory Design, Norberto Ferretti, AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology and the Centro Stile Ferrettigroup architects and de-signers team.Available in the sun top and flybridge version, Dolphin 54’ is still a point of reference in the “lobster boat” segment, because it offers the luminosity and comfort of a mega yacht on a craft which is 16.65 metres long and 5 metres wide.Preserving the refined vintage style which characterises the fleet, Dolphin 54’ has the excellent and much vaunted navigability fea-tures of the brand, its cutting-edge technological equipment and high performance, at the same time reducing the environmental impact by limiting gas and acoustic emissions, as certified by the Module Aa Noise Emission (according to the UNI EN ISO 14509 standard meeting the requirements of the 94/25 EC directive, amended by 2003/44/EC on the subject of environmental pollu-tion). This is a fundamental requirement which allows the owner to

fully integrate with the surrounding environment and at the same time shows that performance and sustainability can go hand in hand to all intents and purposes. The Dolphin 54’ keeps the sinuous lines typical of this fascinating category, with a cream coloured hull which perfectly matches the warm interiors, where solid wood – which also features promi-nently outdoors – dominates the setting. From the large cockpit, with two comfortable sofas on a warm teak floor, you can get to the garage with an electro-hydraulic hatch – housing the tender ready for use – and reach sun top or to the flybridge.Inside the salon is welcoming, fitted with precious leather and brightly lit thanks to the large windows which bring together sky and sea. To the right of the main deck there is the galley, fitted with everything one could need, while to the bow you have the helm station with a co-pilot seat designed for a guest who wishes to sit beside the owner during navigation. The flybridge version – which can be shaded by means of a retractable bimini top and embellished with a comfortable sundeck – also offers a second raised steering and further space for life on board.Below deck a careful use of spaces characterises the cosy sleeping area: at the end of the corridor there is the master cabin, a real suite with large windows which provide plenty of natural light in the room. To the opposite sides of the corridor you have the two guest cabins, one twin and the other serving either as a triple – with one king-size and one single bed – or double room. Thanks to its state-of-the-art twin Common Rail MAN da 800 Hp engines, the Dolphin 54’ can reach a cruise speed of 28 knots and a top speed of 32. Comfort and stability are guaranteed by the variable geometry Deep Vee keel with an average 19°deadrise and support pads; on request it is possible to have the Mitsubishi MSM 4000 ARG Anti Rolling Gyro System fitted, which reduces rolling by over 50% while sailing and mooring.

B etween the end of 2013 and the first months of 2014, it is scheduled the launch of the new Riva 122’ Mythos, the largest planing yacht ever built in the shipyard, a model which transfers the elegance, flair and clean lines

featured by all Riva models to a new range entirely in light alu-minium alloy. With harmonious and elegant lines and an excellent comfort level, the 122’ Mythos is a high tech yacht offering top performances as well as being strongly focused on consumption and range. This model features shaft line propulsion with propellers designed for the highest efficiency, while the active stabilizing system guaran-tees optimum comfort on board.

The design is careful but not aggressive – with wood, leather steel and corian featuring prominently – which means that this yacht has the potential of becoming a nautical ‘milestone’ as many other Riva models. The extremely elegant exteriors are characterised by spacious areas which allow for enjoying the time spent cruising together. The large main deck cockpit features a spacious and comfortable sun-pad and a table which can host up to ten people. The salon and the dinette have large windows with an amazing panoramic view and are connected to the raised helm station, while the wide galley is located to the front of the deck.Below deck, the new flagship of this historic Italian brand is a true example of stylish versatility: the lower deck, amidships, is

designed for three possible layouts with three, four or five cabins, apart from the crew area to the bow. Large glass side windows guarantee plenty of natural light under deck, as well as being fitted with a light system for soft interior illumination. From the cockpit on the main deck it is possible to access the aft bathing platform which separates the two garage hatches, de-signed to host the tender to the left and the jet ski to the right. The ad hoc platform allows users to safely plunge into the water or dive from the aft area. The sun deck is designed to offer the owner and his guests the utmost comfort, thanks to a Jacuzzi swimming pool, wide sun-bathing sofas and a second retractable helm station.

The new flagship from the shipyard is 37 metres long and 7.60 metres wide: the twin MTU 12 V 4000 M 93L engines allow for a peak speed of more than 27 knots and a cruising speed of 25 knots (preliminary data). Designed by Mauro Micheli from Officina Italiana Design, the firm in charge of the whole Riva craft range, in collaboration with AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology and the ar-chitect and designer team from the Centro Stile Ferrettigroup, Riva 122’ Mythos is a product of the construction skill and expertise of the Ancona shipyard CRN, specializing in mega-yachts up to 90 metres. This yacht, therefore, is also a statement of intent: through Riva 122’ Mythos, indeed, the Ferretti Group forcefully confirms its intention to grow by continuing to innovate.

A fter years of advanced research and development, Ber-tram has taken luxury to the next level and built a sport fishing yacht of remarkable proportions. Leading the Bertram fleet into the future of sport fishing, the 80

delivers extreme power and performance of a sport fishing vessel while exuding ultimate luxury and comfort. This grand yacht’s design is the success of the marine industry’s cutting-edge engineers and is crafted by marine professionals who are committed to maintain the ride and standards of excellence that Bertram is known for. This vessel is built for the supreme sport fishing experience that Bertram is known to provide with a fully equipped fishing cockpit for every fisherman’s needs. Longitudinal fish boxes are placed next to the fighting chair to easily store any catch of the day and larger rod locker storage on the port side is incorporated under the spiral staircase for access from the cockpit mezzanine area are just a few of the sport fishing amenities. In order to maximize all space on board to create more comfort-able living space in both the interior and exterior of the yacht,

the 80 has been designed with a generous, extended cockpit that provides ample space for a plethora of activities or entertainment on board. The cockpit is configured for an “L-shaped” mezzanine lounge seating with a fixed cockpit table, an essential entertain-ment and relaxation area. A supplementary day head is also inte-grated into the main salon level for easier entry for guests from the cockpit. This yacht is endowed with beautiful white oak wood as a standard and optional exotic African mahogany for the interiors. The ultra luxurious full beam master offers sweeping views of the open ocean with large porthole windows, which surround the mas-ter suite. The 80 features a four cabin layout and offers multiple layout options for the master staterooms that can be customized upon request. This layout offers multiple crew cabin quarters that can also be modified to accommodate separate male and female crew quarters. The first, an aft crew cabin for two, can be accessed from the cockpit with additional entry to the engine room. The second optional crew cabin is located forward of the galley, which is perfect to accommodate a hostess, butler or personal chef. For those who would rather opt for extra storage space, this op-tional crew cabin can also be converted into a large walk-in pantry. The 80 can also be delivered with a forward windshield that fea-tures an advanced hull window design that is constructed with multiple layers of tempered glass. The optional forward window design actually brightens the inte-rior of the salon while the hull windows are reinforced directly into the fiberglass hull for optimal hull strength. This state-of the-art window technology was exclusively designed and tested by Advanced Yacht Technology (AYT) to resist the roughest fishing conditions across the oceans. The 80 also features the exclusive ARG (Anti-rolling Gyro) technol-ogy as a preferred option, which suppresses rolling motion and re-duces rolling angle by up to 50 percent at low speed or at anchor, which enables guests to enjoy a smoother and more pleasurable boating experience. As the largest Bertram ever built, the Bertram 80 is setting the standard for the sport fishing industry and the future of sport fishing.

A lso this year the Ferretti Group participated in the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, which in 2012 reached its 53rd

edition, with a large selection featuring 17 models, as many as five of which are debuts on the American mar-

ket: Pershing 108’, Pershing 74’ and three Riva representatives: 75’ Venere Super, “little” Iseo and 63’ Virtus, which also landed in the US after the world premiere in Cannes.Furthermore, the Group took this opportunity to introduce to the market its new operational structure, focusing on a more wide-spread distribution network on North American markets and in Latin America, where good sales results were registered for the second year running. The new structure is based on an increased global presence to be implemented through the expansion of the Group’s operational

presence, becoming more and more capillary in strategic areas: this is expected to result in a “glocal” approach which, as far as the iconic brand Bertram in particular is concerned, will lead to a global distribution and a service network in each region. Over the past 18 months, in fact, much has been invested in favour of the American brand, with the transfer of production to the cutting-edge facility in Merritt Island, also in Florida, and the arrival of a new team of managers. The expansion in the United States, how-ever, does not end here: apart from inaugurating a new showroom in Palm Beach, the Ferretti Group will continue to implement its own development strategy and that of its subsidiary Allied Marine, which will be focused on brokerage and yacht chartering activities, with a view to expanding the business also to Europe and to the Asia-Pacific region.

The show, attracting celebrities from all over the world, started with the VIP night, an “event within the event” featuring more than 5000 participants. The hostess of the evening was the beautiful Linda Evangelista; she was asked what luxury was to her mind, and the answer was: “time, privacy and... Riva.” A highly significant award for the Ferretti Group brand which was one of the greatest protagonists of the evening to all intents and purposes, first with the inaugural video dedicated to the top brands in the event – with Riva featuring prominently – and then with its own stand, a stylish and carefully laid out area, thanks to the collaboration of the dealer Lengers Yachts, who took part in ten editions of this event. Among the items, displayed for the delight of visitors, there was an Aquariva – sold during the first evening – as well as number of Ferretti Group in-scale models.

When innovation is part of your DNA you cannot help exploring new trends all the time. This is the case of Pershing, which at the recent Boat Show in Genoa presented “the engine of your ideas”, an innovative “Yacht Art” project on display in the exclusive Pershing lounge, as part of the brand’s stand at the Show.An exquisitely “inter-disciplinary” video art exhibition which transfers the act of painting to an unheard of scenario, with the sea as canvas and the latest precious addition to the fleet, Pershing 82’, as brush. The experiment was conducted at night, in the dark: gliding over the water the craft left a shining trail which was photographed using cam-eras set to an exposure time of 30 minutes, capturing the words writ-ten by the yacht: thrill, idea, fast, cool. The colour photographs were displayed alongside the back stage video. The artist Piero Addis was re-sponsible of the exhibition, while the project was developed in collabora-tion with the TBWA\Italia Group.

It is said that excellence breeds excel-lence. This is exactly what happened in September at the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes, illuminated by the presence of the tennis star and great yachting enthusiast Rafael Nadal. During his visit to the Show, the Spanish champion visited the Ferretti Group stand which gave him the opportunity to take a close look at some of the yachts on display; he was especially interested in the brand’s flagship, the Itama 75’. This craft, exactly the same as the Spanish athlete, stands out in terms of sports performance, unmistakable Medi-terranean style and assertive spirit.

An increasing interest is beign shown towards the Itama 45’, which was on display for the first time at the prestigious Boot in Dusseldorf, an event held in the German city in January. This yacht, premiered in 2011 during the Cannes Festival, was greatly admired by the audi-ence present. Such a success during a show is of fundamental impor-tance for the whole continental Eu-rope and confirms the interest with regard to Ferretti Group, over and above its traditional “historic” Medi-terranean products, a few months after the delivery of the first 45’ to Lebanon.

It was the first signifi-cant occasion for Italian and foreign journalists to acquire detailed knowl-edge of the new Riva flagship, a rev-olutionary craft and the first brand model made of aluminium, under construction in the CRN Ancona shipyard. The speakers at the meet-ing, Ferruccio Rossi, CEO of the Fer-retti Group, Paola Procopio, brand manager for Riva, presented in de-tail the well-established partnership between CRN and Riva, in the light of this new project which renews their collaboration, thus revealing the construction details of the new yacht. Later, Mauro Micheli from Of-ficina Italiana Design, who designed the whole Riva range, explained how the project originated, describing the construction potential of the innova-tive material used.

Mochi Craft continues to broaden its horizons, with a new important landing which will take a new Dol-phin 54’ Fly to the United States, in anticipation of the spring events on the North East coast of the coun-try, more precisely in the exclusive Hamptons area. For the brand this means “coming home”: it is exactly in this area of the States that the lobster boat was born, the craft that provided the Fer-retti Group with inspiration for the Dolphin line of Mochi Craft, which today features the models combin-ing a distinctive and refined style with a cool and increasingly glamor-ous taste.

The Northern European “tour” of the Dolphin 74’ Cruiser continues successfully; after the Boat Show in Amsterdam last September, she fea-tured prominently at the Dusseldorf Boot event in January. This is a “key” boat show for the whole industry, and the brand’s flagship was particularly admired by visitors there. Indeed this model managed to capture the attention of markets in Europe and beyond; next spring the first delivery of a Dolphin 74’ Cruiser in Lebanon is expected. It is a truly remarkable result for the brand, which is targeting new strate-gic international markets.

One year after the launch and sub-sequent world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in October 2011, the Custom Line 100’, more specifically hull number six, was in-troduced also to the European audi-ence, on the occasion of the Cannes and Genoa shows, thus confirming the great success of the yacht at the international level. The Custom Line 100’ is one of the brand’s point of pride, alongside the Navetta 33 Cre-scendo and the flagship Custom Line 124’, together with which it was presented in 2011.They are highly innovative yachts which have set new reference stand-ards for the industry, contributing to the renewal of as much as the 50% of the Ferretti Group range.
