Translation of SAE publications & magazines in other languages To provide the customer/member with the ability to
read Automotive Engineering International (AEI) magazine in languages other than English, three translated versions of AEI are currently available:
Portuguese language version, titled engenharia automotiva e aeroespacial, published by SAE Brasil, which is based on content from both AEI & Aerospace Engineering
Russian language version published by Dr. I. P. Ksenevitch Spanish language version published by SAE and
Tecnipublicaciones. The title of this magazine is Automotive Engineering International en espanol.

Recent Activities (Cont’d)AEI Fuel Cell Transportation Technology Summit
AEI Fuel Cell Technology Summit was held on June 11, 2001 in San Jose, California. This was AEI's first technology summit, which brought industry experts in the fuel cell market together for panel discussions & question & answer sessions. On June 12, SAE Fuel Cell Standards Committees met. This summit represents a new, cross-organizational approach to providing a fast-to-market forum for hot technology information.

Knowledge Products Business Plan To assist SAE in the Information to Knowledge
Transformation, a Knowledge Products Business Plan was developed. This plan lays the foundation for SAE to become a knowledge product resource for the mobility industry.
SAE staff will begin the implementation of the Knowledge Products Business Plan, & PC will continually monitor progress.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between SAE & Convergence Transportation Electronics Association (CTEA) for publishing services for the Convergence 2002 Proceedings.

Publication CommitteeKey Activities
Future Activities Publication Committee identified the committee's Vision ten years out (in the year 2011)
SAE Board of Directors' Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP) has identified four (4) high-priority areas of change that will have a substantial impact on the Society. These include the following:
Globalization Technology Customization Consolidation
Publication CommitteeKey Activities
Future Activities, (Cont’d)
The BRP also identified the role expected of the Operating Boards and Committees (OBCs) to enable SAE to meet these changing conditions. It is the OBCs' responsibility to create the necessary infrastructure to customize products, to rationalize processes, including taking appropriate risks, reducing cycle time, etc.
Publication CommitteeKey Activities
Future Activities (Cont’d) The Publication Committee is heavily dependent upon the output of other OBCs (e.g. Engineering Meetings Board, Technical Standards Board) for development of material it publishes. Therefore, as consolidation and partnering occurs in professional societies as well as industrial entities, opportunities will evolve for SAE to become the publisher for material developed by these partners. These partners may be in the public or private sectors anywhere in the world. Publication delivery will be available around the clock, around the globe and in the most convenient presentation method and format.
Publication CommitteeKey Activities
Future Activities (Cont’d)
Thus, the Vision for the Publication Committee capabilities in 2011 is as follows:
Electronic delivery of products will approach eighty percent (80%) with capability of one hundred percent (100%) (technology).
Selected publications will be available in multiple languages (globalization/ technology/customization).
Publications will be able to support virtual meetings (technology).
SAE will be a repository/distributor of standards developed by others (consolidation).
Publication CommitteeKey Activities
Future Activities (Cont’d)
Vision (cont’d):
Emphasis will be placed on "knowledge-based products" (customization/ technology).
Alliances and partnerships will exist with other entities for SAE to publish and distribute the partner's material in the format and method as appropriate (customization/consolidation).
Time-to-market for published material will be greatly reduced (technology).
Publication CommitteeKey Activities
Future Activities (Cont’d)
Vision (cont’d):
Publication costs will be maintained or reduced and quality will be improved (technology).
In lieu of regulatory standards harmonization, SAE will have the ability to determine the "least-common denominator" and areas of conflict between/among standards (globalization/customization).
To facilitate globalization, SAE will achieve innovative mechanisms for financial transactions.
SAE will adopt technology that will facilitate protection of its intellectual property.
