To clarify the requirements of the qualifications you need to delivery VET in Schools:the Cert IV Training and Assessment (TAA) is one of the TWO qualifications you require. You also need to have the SAME qualification as that you are delivering, for example, these are some of the courses that can be delivered in Schools (Your school may offer some or all of them)You will study the Cert IV TAA at another TAFE and does not involve us at OTEN (NEXT) and (NEXT)This group will be completing the Cert II in Business at OTEN

OTENCertificate II in Business

WHYCert II Business is a nationally accredited course recognised by all RTOs ( explain RTO if hasnt already been covered)Because the qualifications are recognised nationally, the Government needs to ensure the skills of providers are appropriate i.e.- teaching skills through Qualifications and Cert IV TAAAnd Industry skills demonstrating currency and competency to at least the level you are delivering. We dont want this to be overly arduous for you and we recognise the skills you already use as part of your duties -- eg admin, organising schedules, communication etc. So these duties were mapped against 10 of the 14 competencies in the Board of Studies Certificate II syllabus.

We need to confirm that you can apply these in an industry context not just a school/teaching context via a Work Placement which also ensures these skills are current. Also, in consultation with DET we identified a particular issue with currency and level of skill related to the remaining 4 technology units

So, we developed an holistic assessment process which included Use of technology for the assessment( i.e. communication by email) ANDActual assessment tasks

TimetableYou have a specific end date from time of information session to complete all four technology assessments as well as the two-day industry placement.

We have developed a timetable for you. (COLOUR) It is a suggested order with suggested finish dates for each of the four units, leading to the final date for all assignments to be completed.

Email AccessYou must have email access and a PC (not Mac) with Microsoft Office Professional. We support 2003 and earlier but not 2007.

ReadinessWhen you believe you are ready for assessment, you need to email OTEN to request a readiness checklist that addresses the competency. Leave enough time to do this. OTEN assures a reply within 3 working days. (NEXT)Readiness check

11The ChecklistThis Word format allows you to type only in the shaded areas with your name, OTEN number and to answer Yes or No to each of the questions.

The checklist serves several purposes:It establishes an email procedure that is to be used with the assessments that follow. It confirms that the email address for assessment is correct and working. It focuses on the individual performance criteria against which you are being assessed for competency. It identifies if you are competent to proceed (some of the files must be zipped up before emailing to penetrate TAFEs firewall). It holistically assesses many other performance criteria related to business technology, word processing, Internet, email, working effectively, scheduling and the Key competencies.Type only your OTEN number and answer Yes or No to each of the questions. Your responsibility

12End of checklistThe end of the checklist asks you to assess if there is still a gap in your knowledge. If there is, work through the support materials again until you believe you are competent, then apply for the assessment by email. This, of course, places the responsibility squarely on YOUR shoulders. The AssessmentWe have a bank of assessments for each competency; these are regularly updated. Emailed to you when you return the checklistYou have 7 days to return assignment to OTENYou can use any appropriate resourcesIt must be your own work authenticity statement requiredResult is Ungraded Achieved Competency or Not Yet CompetentHow long do the assignments take?If you have completed your learning, each assessment should take about 15-30 minutes each. Remember, they are assessing level 2 so are not meant to be difficult. They also do not assess every one of the performance criteria. Please request only one at a time. What happens if I fail?Over the next few days you will learn more about the terminology. Not yet competent is one term. We will ask you to redress some of the areas where you have not demonstrated competence. We may conduct a telephone interview with you that draws out some further evidence of your competence or we may ask you to correct work and resubmit it.

What happens next? You complete the enrolment form today. Sign it and pass to your sector Coordinator (AIS, CEC or DET) who will sign as your employer.Usually within a week or two, you will receive an email from OTEN confirming your enrolment in the course. (If you havent heard from us within a few weeks, it is possible our email hasnt reach you please get in touch with us at the phone numbers/email address on the information sheet.)

ReportingBecause your employer is sponsoring your enrolment, we will be providing regular reports of your progress to them.

TranscriptsTAFE issues transcripts on course completion. Your certificate (testamur) will be sent direct to your employer, not to you. SummaryYour responsibility to learn3 assignmentsAssessed at level 2You know the end date of programOnus is on you to request assignmentsOrganise industry placement
