The third task of our overall media assignment consisted of collectively creating and presenting a

pitch to the class which is known as the treatment , this is a rough plan on what we intend to do.

Our treatment consisted of the genre, brief synopsis of theme, narrative and characters, logistics

and feasibility and basic elements of our short film.

After presenting our treatment to the class we received some useful yet critical feedback. For

example the class mainly had confusion over our narrative. We originally decided on an action

adventure theme with elements of romance to it however we were unclear ourselves on the action

adventure that the film would feature and its main narrative. Therefore after questioning the

audiences feedback we came to the conclusion of changing the combination genre to Romance

Comedy. They commented that comedy is very successful and popular in the media sector

currently and will attract and entice the right target audience.

We have also change the length of the film after looking carefully at the spec and being advised and inform by our teacher that our film can only be a maximum of 5 minutes.

• Furthermore, scenes were we planned to feature violence and

swearing have now been erased as believe this will be

unnecessary due to the change in the narrative however the

moral of our film still remains the same, that men are not always

in the wrong.

After presenting our short film to the class we received some critical feedback:

GOOD POINTS: the class enjoyed the narrative and thought it was evident and easy to understand. They also enjoyed the comedy elements to it and the non diegetic sounds as it captivated the audience in.

Bad points: Some did agree that during scenes of where Zara was patiently waiting for Toby to arrive, the background sound was too apparent and was disturbing the scene. For further improvements they recommended to adjust any sound track lightly into the background to make the film in general look more professional.

After creating our house styles for both of our print products, we created a presentation that consisted of the case studies that we used and that also encouraged us to come to our final drafts of both houses styles. The main case studies that I focused on was the breakup and no strings attached. I believe the layout of both this media products reflect the layout of our house styles.

The following link is our pitch

After presenting this pitch to the class, majority of our class mates agreed that

the house styles do look unique and very professional and therefore would be

successful in enticing the right target audience. However in terms of the poster

they were slightly confused about the main image. Some recommended to use an

image of Toby with both animated characters on his shoulder as this will inform

the target audience of both theme, narrative and brief synopsis. Furthermore

they also agreed on the main image for the film review, remarking that it should

consists of an image with both main characters sitting on the bench as this is the

significant location of where their love blossomed.

• Jamsheed presented a

separate pitch where he

revealed to the class his

rough sketches of what

the potential film poster

can look like.

• The class agreed with

his ideas and

therefore

recommended to use

this house style draft.

However some did

recommend to adjust

images of both of the

animated characters

as this will indicate

genre and entice the

audience in further.

For this particular task we were required to use SurveyMonkey and

create a questionnaire for the public to fill in a range of 8 questions.

These questions referred to all 3 media products and how they work as

a whole. After 5 people reviewing our questionnaire we received some

critical feedback.

• In terms of strengths the film with held, the responders all agreed the

storyline, animated characters and non diegetic sounds that were

compatible with the scenes are the strong points of our short film.

Page 8: Question 3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

In terms of weaknesses, some believed the cutting rate was

too fast in some scenes, the sound could be improved

especially when the animated characters appear and the

speech bubbles are doing the talking .Also some captions

were to fast unable for the audience to read it.

Page 9: Question 3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

When regarding the conventions and textual analysis of our film, all of our

respondents agreed that our short film did follow the codes and conventions.

They commented that the narrative was clear and specific, various shots were

used and the location was suitable and compatible with the narrative of the

short film.

However in terms of the film poster majority of the respondents all stated

that our film poster contradicted codes and conventions. They believed it was

unsuitable to use a studio shot image rather than a screen shot of a scene

from the short film. The main element that contradicts itself the most will be

the image. Due to these results we made small adjustments to our film poster

involving the image. On the other hand, the respondents believed the film

review did follow the conventions and had an element of professionalism. This

believe the layout, font and structure of the review encouraged this.

Before After

We have adjusted a collage of shots

from the short film into the

background to distract any un

wanted attention form the main

image and to make it less evident.

Furthermore the results indicated that the characteristics/

genre corresponded well with the short film. They believed

as a package all three media products work well together

due to similar styles, themes and colour scheme, they also

believed it matched with the overall tone of the short

film.

Page 12: Question 3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Last of the, the most significant questions of all, if

improvements were to be made in terms of all 3 media

products, what should they be?

Majority of the respondents all agreed the one major change

that should be adjusted is the main image of poster as

they believe it is out of place and does not fit in with the

layout. Furthermore one recommendation was made to

change the colours of the text that appear as captions is

the fair background to make it more vibrant and able to

recognise. Also various locations can be adapted in order

to make the audience gain more interest in the short film.
