Starting in 2004 she has won a first place ribbon in the Quilt Hawai’i quilt show three times. All of her quilts are hand appliquéd and hand-quilted and are unparalleled in design and coloring. www.e-bowl.co.jp/meg/ Victoria Masukoa , Kapa’a, Kauai, Hawaii, has been a seamstress on the island of Kauai for over 40 years. Full of interesting tips and techniques, she is always willing to share her extensive knowledge of garment sewing. Her store, Vicky’s fabrics, has been a cornerstone of Old Kapa’a Town business for over 30 years. www.vickysfabrics.com Myra Forbyn, Placerville, California, loves designing patterns for appliqué and vending with beautiful fabrics at quilt shows. She teaches throughout the west coast. Her motto is “there is no right way to appliqué”. www.auntmyras.com Pat Yamin, New York, a pioneer in the quilting field, started Come Quilt with Me, in 1981 and it is now a major manufacturing concern which designs and manufactures templates, inspired from her antique quilt collection. Pat is the inventor of the Brooklyn Revolver Turn tables, popular with quilters around the world. She has been teaching for over 25 years at major shows across the USA and is the author of three books with the American Quilter’s Society. She has appeared on numerous TV programs, most recently American Quilter on Lifetime TV and is a frequent guest on Martha Stewart Living’s radio show. Her classes are always full of fun tips and techniques. www.Comequiltwithme.com Pat Rosenthal, Gig Harbor, Washington, has been quilting for about 20 years and teaching for the past 15 years. She is energetic, enthusiastic, very multi-talented and eager to share. You’ll have lots of fun and learn a lot! Susan Brown, Manakato, Minnesota, made her first quilt in 1981 when she was having her first child. Her love of quilting grew through the years and she opened a quilt shop in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2001. As quilt ship owner who began designing rulers that her quilt shop customers found useful. As she took her shop on the road to shows, she found that her customers were more interested in her rulers than fabric. Thus a new company was formed! www.tqmproducts.com

SUPERIOR THREADS School of Threadology Bob Purcell, Utah, is President and owner of Superior Threads. He has worked in Japan for 10 years and speaks fluent Japanese. Bob loves to teach and has taught at the college level. Since 1999 he has educated thousands within our industry and has many articles published in various industry magazines. He got involved in the thread business to support his lovely wife’s very healthy quilting addiction and he knows all the places she hides her fabric. www.superiorthreads.com

Heather Purcell, Utah, grew up in Australia and came to the USA to go to college, where she met Bob. She graduated with a degree in Microbiology, married Bob and spent 8 years in Japan where 2 of her 3 children were born. They moved to Hawaii where she took her first quilting class before moving to southern Utah. She decided to take another class at a local quilt shop and was hooked. It’s so much more fun to sew quilts than clothing! That opened the door to work with Bob and together they created Superior Threads. Now she makes quilts to go with her threads. She also has a new venture with Fab Fabrics, which offers fabrics and threads to match your projects. www.superiorthreads.com Annie Unrein, Utah, has been a quilter for over 30 years and has been designing patterns and teaching quilting classes since 2000. She has been working with Superior Threads throughout the country for several years and has taught at all of Superior Thread’s School of Threadology Seminars. www.byannie.com Ellen Peters, New Hampshire, owner of Cats’ Whiskers Studio, enjoys teaching quilting classes, as well as doing beautiful machine quilting on both the home machine and long arm. Ellen is a co-producer with Faye Labanaris of QUILT HAWAI’I & QUILT VENTURES TOURS. Faye Labanaris, New Hampshire, brings her love of teaching, hand appliqué and making ribbon flowers to her classes. Her specialty is hand needle-turn appliqué and landscape designs with dimensional ribbon-work blossoms and is the author of six books with the American Quilter’s Society. ABOUT THE SHOW: Scores of Hollywood movies have been filmed on Kauai, but none tops the celebrity of the ‘50’s hit musical “SOUTH PACIFIC”. When Director Josh Logan chose Kauai as the principal location for the film version of the long running Broadway play, the island’s stunning photogenic image received a huge boost as national publications scrambled to publicize the film. The movie put Kauai on the map as a major film location for Hollywood producers, and movie-goers found their Bali Hai. Today, The Hawaii Association of Performing Arts (“HAPA”) and Producer Alain Dussaud, have brought back the original Broadway version to Kauai. The show is in its eight year of production and one of the island’s top rated Kauai Activities. The show features an all local cast whose talents will delight you. Starring the former “Miss Garden Island”, Cindy Jackson as “Ensign Nellie Forbush,” Greg Shepherd as “Emile de Beque,” Delia Valentine as “Bloody Mary”, Sean Texeira as “Lt. Joseph Cable, ” and Daphne Sanchez, as “Liat”. The show is directed and choreographed by Brenda Turville, with musical direction by Henry Adam Curtis. “SOUTH PACIFIC” is a compelling love story set in an island paradise, during World War II. Two parallel love stories are threatened by dangers of prejudice and war. Nellie, a spinky nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with the mature French planter, Emile. Nellie learns that the mother of his two children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was Raised, refuses Emile’s proposal of marriage. Meanwhile, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself the fulfillment of a future with a beautiful Tonkinese girl with whom he falls in love out of the same fears that haunt Nellie. When Emile is recruited to accompany Joe on a dangerous mission, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness, thus confronting and conquering her prejudices. The show is a classic and one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s finest works. The production has all the unforgettable songs, such as: “Some enchanted Evening”, “There’s Nothing Like a Dame,” “Bloody Mary Is The girl I Love,” “Bali Hai”, “I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Out Of My Hair,” and many more! The original Broadway show won nine Tony awards, including Best Musical, best Direction and Best Score. The show has also been revived on Broadway to sellout crowds and won seven Tony awards including Best Revival for 2008.

Join Quilt Hawaii and enjoy a wonderful evening as we attend this performance

and dinner as a group at our Quilt Hawaii tables

The free arm option lets you sew pants legs, etc. and will make sewing the bag together easier. Don’t forget the extension table. Rotary cutter, mat and rulers, basic sewing kit, including pins (the large yellow-topped quilting pins work best), scissors, thread, etc. Before Class: To make best use of class time, please cut out the fabric pieces following the Cutting Instructions on page 3 (Section A) of the pattern before coming to class. 401 SCHOOL OF THREADOLOGY - 2-Day Class

(Saturday and Sunday)

QUILT HAWAI’I is PROUD and EXCITED to again present Superior Threads School of Threadology. Enjoy 2 full days of classes with all supplies provided. Just bring your basic sewing supplies, sewing machine and you are set to go. Sewing machines are available for rental. Tuition of $195 includes all class supplies as well a package of Superior Threads products with a retail value over $100. Sewing Machine Required Supplies List: Sewing Machine and basic personal sewing supplies. Everything else provided! How great is that!! This is the second time the School of Threadology will be offered on the island of Kauai. It is a big sacrifice for Bob to travel all the way to Hawaii, but he is willing to do this for you to become a certified Superior Threadologist.

Space is limited, so don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to learn so much about quilting and threads while in Paradise!

Please note: Class Schedule (subject to change with something new and mo’bettah! Dr. Bob)

Seminar: Thread Therapy with Doctor Bob – Part 1

All fact! No opinion! This is the absolute best easy-to-understand information-packed seminar you’ll ever attend. This thread therapy session will help resolve frustrations with all types of threads and solve most problems you have experienced with threads. Bob teaches how to distinguish quality of all types of threads, including regular and decorative. Know what is Fact and what is Fiction. Learn the pros and cons of all major thread types, thread characteristics, the importance of needle selection, and properly setting the tension for your sewing successes. Learn how to use threads successfully, regardless of the type of sewing machine you own. Bob will gladly answer all your questions and supply you with a knowledge you’ll use throughout your sewing and quilting projects. Threads – Product Overview Annie Unrein Heather (Mother Superior) describes each thread in detail, with the history of each thread, why it was developed and how each thread is used. This class is enjoyed by everyone as they become familiar with our entire line of threads. Texture Magic Madness Annie Unrein We have introduced an exciting new product called Texture Magic and are offering a class where you will make a tote bag using fabric and Texture Magic. Annie has demonstrated Texture Magic at many quilt shows and markets across the country. She is a wonderful teacher who is both friendly and informative at the same time. Students have so much fun using this innovative “shrinking fabric”. A great percentage (if not all) of the students will leave class with a completed bag and also leave with many ideas for future uses of Texture Magic.

Open Thread Bar Annie Unrein We are very excited to offer this workshop that quilters love! This workshop begins with a 60 minute session discussing the dynamics of specialty threads, working machine tensions, needle selection and thread delivery. It provides students with a variety of areas in which they can test and play with threads. An assembled / marked practice panel is provided which allows the student to test the thread at different tension settings. They are also invited to learn how to audition threads by doing thread play on provided floral panels. We will have a large assortment of threads available for the students to use. This is a rare opportunity for the quilter to experiment with many different threads and have guidance and assistance of a professional teacher to help with any questions or concerns. Fun with Fusible Thread Annie Unrein Annie will introduce you to Charlotte’s Fusible Thread. It is always so much fun to be introduced to a product with multiple uses. This thread is wonderful for appliqué projects as well as binding and hemming. You will be making a wool

needle case (Annie’s own pattern) using fusible thread and decorative threads. All the supplies are included in this class. Please Note: Class itinerary is subject to change in case a class is replaced with something new and mo’bettah! Dr. Bob
