TAKE COLLEGE PLACEMENT TESTS. Quincy College placement tests are mandatory for students seeking to earn an associate degree or certificate. Call the Admissions office to schedule an appointment. If you have completed a college-level math or English course at an accredited institution, you may be eligible for exemption. Students wishing to apply for exemption may submit a copy of their official transcript to the Quincy College Admissions office. SAT scores are not required for admittance.

Quincy College has a variety of associate degree programs to choose from in Professional Programs, Liberal Arts, Natural & Health Science, and Nursing. Most credits earned at Quincy College are accepted for transfer to other colleges and universities. Quincy College has agreements with several institutions which allow graduates of some associate degree programs to transfer with advanced standing in specific baccalaureate programs. The courses taken at Quincy College count towards the bachelor’s degree just as if they had been taken at the four-year school. Credits earned at Quincy College are often one-third to one-half the cost of most four-year colleges.

Quincy College certificate programs are designed to provide students with specific skills and job training so they may enter the workforce in less than two years. Certificate programs are offered in a wide range of high demand fields such as accounting, biotechnology & compliance, early childhood education, game development, gerontology, healthcare administration: medical billing & coding, human services, practical nursing, security administration, substance abuse, and surgical technology.

Consistent with Quincy College’s primary mission which encourages academic achievement and community involvement, the LifeLong Learning Program seeks to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of the communities in which it serves through stimulating and accessible programs and courses (non-credit), lectures and presentations. Programs are offered in a wide range of topics including computer basics, health & wellness, and human resources.

Quincy College has articulation agreements and dual enrollment programs with area high schools designed to allow students to earn college credits while still in high school. These off-campus credit classes, which are available at a number of participating area high schools, help students make a smooth transition from high school to college. In addition, high school students may enroll in courses at Quincy College, with permission from their guidance counselors, at a reduced tuition rate. Harvard Square is the historic center of Cambridge where you can find Harvard Museums, the American Repertory Theater, hip restaurants, and trendy boutiques.

Kendall Square in Cambridge is home to many companies and start-ups in the biotech/life sciences, financial, and technology industries, as well as retail shopping, Landmark Theaters, and cafes and bars.

Park Street is a historic road in the center of Boston that leads to the front of the State House. As one of the main subway hub stations, Park Street is also the gateway to Downtown Boston. Surrounded by the oldest park in the country, Boston Common, Park Street is steps from Chinatown, the Theatre District, and historical Beacon Hill.

Plymouth, America’s Hometown, is a tourist destination and home to Plymouth Rock, Mayflower II, Plimoth Plantation, and other notable sites. The commuter rail stop is located behind Plymouth campus.

The City of Quincy is the birthplace to two U.S. Presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams. Quincy Campus is conveniently located across from the MBTA station.

South Station is the largest railroad station and intercity bus terminal in Greater Boston. Hop over the Fort Point channel to Boston’s emerging Seaport Innovation District, World Trade Center, and Waterfront.

Only three subway stops from Quincy Center, J.F.K./U. MASS is located in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. Shuttle buses are available from this station to the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum.

As the “City of Presidents,” Quincy is the birthplace to two U.S. Presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams, as well as legendary patriot of the American Revolution, John Hancock. Quincy is a popular tourist destination and home to the Adams National Historical Park.

QUINCYVisitors can tour The Old House at Peacefield which served as the Adams family residence for four generations. Both Adams presidents and their wives are buried at the United First Parish Church (pictured left).

PLYMOUTHPlymouth holds a place of great prominence in American history. It is said to be the final landing site for the first voyage of the Mayflower. Founded in 1620, Plymouth was the site of the colony founded by the Pilgrims. Today, Plymouth is a tourist destination and is located approximately 35 miles south of Boston.

Plymouth Rock (pictured right)is Plymouth’s most famous attraction. The rock is said to be the disembarkation site of the Pilgrims.

Plimoth Plantation is a living history museum that consists of a re-creation of the Plymouth settlement in 1627.

Plymouth is also home to a vibrant music and arts community including the Plymouth Center for the Arts, the Driftwood Folk Cafe, and the Plymouth Independent Music Festival. There are free concerts held throughout the summer.

The Mayflower II is Plimoth Plantation’s full-scale reproduction of the Mayflower, which sailed to Plymouth in 1620. The ship serves as a museum about the Pilgrims' historic voyage from Plymouth, England, and is considered a faithful replica of the original Mayflower. It is located at the State Pier in Plymouth.

Cafes and restaurants are located within Cordage Park. Shopping and various eateries line historic Main Street, steps from Plymouth campus.

Plymouth boasts numerous art galleries, museums, performing arts, and theatre companies. Plymouth is also the home to the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and The Pinehills summer music series.

Quincy College’s tutoring services help students from all backgrounds reach their academic goals by helping them become better learners. The Nicastro Learning Center in Quincy and the Tutoring Center in Plymouth provide free tutoring services. Both peer and professional tutors work with students via drop in hours and appointments. Tutoring services are available both day and evening hours. We have one-on-one tutoring and small-group tutoring in most subject areas including English, ESL, Math, Science, Accounting, Computer Science, Nursing, Health Sciences, and more. We also have tutoring to improve academic skills, such as writing skills for any subject area, reading comprehension, study skill strategies, time management, and note taking. Our centers feature computer terminals at which students can access self tutorials and learning software to improve English and math skills. STUDENT SUCCESS COACHING OFFICE

The Student Success Coaching office supports students to develop plans to overcome obstacles and achieve their academic goals. The coaches provide a variety of free services to our diverse student population. Although the coaches do not provide therapeutic counseling to students, the coaches do assist students by actively listening and making professional referrals as needed. Coaches provide short term, solution focused coaching on issues related to transitioning to college; developing academic, personal and professional goals; developing self discipline and self motivation; promoting self care and healthy life choices; stress reduction; overcoming anxiety; and avoiding procrastination. Through the Quincy College Veterans Discount Program, veterans may enroll in either Liberal Arts or Professional Programs classes at a discounted rate. Veterans are eligible for this reduced rate regardless of the number of courses they take in a semester. The veteran discount program is not funded by the state or federal government; therefore, veterans who are eligible for education benefits through the VA may also receive the Quincy College discounted rate.

Quincy College is a proud member of the Service Members Opportunity Colleges Consortium (SOC); we are happy to review both military and college transcripts, as well as CLEP and DANTES exam scores, for transfer credit according to American Council of Education (ACE) recommendations.

STUDENT SERVICESLIBRARIES

Quincy College has libraries on both the Plymouth and Quincy campuses. The libraries provide access to over 55,000 titles including print and electronic books, electronic journals, streamlining video clips and research databases. Quincy College is a member of the Old Colony Library Network (OCLN). Students may request print materials from any of the 28 network libraries and access a variety of resources not available at Quincy College. The library website, www.quincycollegelibrary.org, is the gateway to all resources including the OCLN catalog as well as topic and course specific research guides.

Quincy College Librarians provide instruction and individual consultation in conducting research for class assignments and general information literacy. The library is equipped with wireless access, a computer lab, a collaboration room and quiet study spaces. Printing is available for currently enrolled students. A valid ID and password are needed to access the print management system. Photocopiers are also available.
