ParisOpen space provision - dents creusesIn 1973, the Paris region adopted a standard of 300 metres as the maximum distance to thenearest park, but at the time this excluded 75 per cent of the population. This has led to all

opportunities being systematically considered, including the creation of new open spaces in allmajor urban renewal projects, but also the creation of micro open spaces by acquiring and

    demolishing derelict housing

BudapestParks and green areas are the most popular places of recreation. Of the total area of Budapest13.4% is forest and 2.3% is parks. The Budapest Environmental Protection Programme envisions

to increase the proportion of forests to at least 16%, and of parks, to 5.5% in the next five years.

    LondonThe 1951 LCC Plan

The open space section was based on the concept of Open Space Deficiency. It was statedthat In July, 1945, the Council adopted the principle of the standard of four acres (1.62 ha) per1,000 population* plus three acres (1.21 ha) outside the Administrative County. When aReview of the 1951 plan was carried out in 1960, the LCC gave statistical details of the newopen spaces which had been created during the decade.9 The total area of open space had

increased by 6.3 per cent, from 3340.8 ha (8255 acres) to*16" Vienna

The city of Vienna (MA 69 Real Estate Management)purchased a total of 1,310,000 m2 of green land in 2004. This included 1,200,000 m2 ofwoodlands as well as 320 ha of land for source protection purposes outside of Vienna ,

29,000 m2 was purchased for creation of a park area. In addition, 5,000 m2 was purchasedin the 21st district for realisation of the open space concept for northeast Vienna.Green land purchases in a magnitude of roughly 30,500 m2 took place in 2005.
