PC member.UNP working Committee Vice President Jaliya Jayawardena
too had been seriously injured. An
innocent youth who was a passerby when the shooting took place
had also been a victim of the
shooting. He was to be operated on urgently at the Matara
hospital yesterday. Harsha Kumara ,
Priyantha Jayawardena, W A Dilum and Indika De Silva were others
admitted to the Matara
hospital with injuries.
This shooting incident took place near the Matara Municipal
Council (MC), Dodangoda..Presidents advisor Herman Gunaratne who
fired ten shots at the crowd was seized by the
workers of the Matara MC along with another who were involved in
the shooting and handed
over to the police. The pistol used by Herman too was entrusted
to police custody , but the MC
workers say, that weapon may have been changed. Though every
effort was made to release
criminal suspect Herman without arresting , the pressures
brought to bear by the opposition
politicos compelled the police to arrest Herman.
Thereafter the police had banned the procession.
It is most perplexing to note that Lawyer Gunaratne Wanninayake
who made a hue and cry that
Herman Gunaratne sent the white Van after him also being on the
scene.
Subsequently , senior DIG Deshabandu Tennekoon , a MaRa crony
cum lackey gave
permission to the procession of Maithri- Shiral to proceed that
was halted by the police, based
on reports. It is learnt that Shiral and Deshabandu are
University friends. Despite 8 civilians
being injured due to this procession , it being not halted was a
matter for grave concern and
consternation.Later when the Matara police obtained an
injunction order from the Matara additional
magistrate Manjula Karunaratne and reached the venue , the
procession had disappeared.
However 50 of the marchers were seen having lunch in the
vicinity of Kamburugamuwa tank ,
Matara and dispersing finally, the police revealed.
When the Rajapakse -Kili-Sajith-Maithri-Shiral conspiracy
promoted procession began there
were about 200-300 participants which diminished to 50 towards
the end.
At the commencement itself about 2000 members of the genuine
opposition joined to
demonstrate against this march. Mangala Samaraweera M.P. along
with Municipal councilors
led the protests carrying banners calling for the defeat of the
marchers who are hatching
conspiracies selling their souls and doing the sordid biddings
of the Maha Raja (King) of
Maharaja ( monarch of all what he surveys).
In the first round of conflict Maithri Gunaratne s son was
seriously injured and admitted to
hospital . He was the one who was remanded recently following a
fatal vehicle accident where
the victim died. Maithris father carried out the shooting in the
subsequent conflict . Thegenuine opposition party members too
attacked the conspiratorial marchers on four occasions.
Matara district M.P. Mangala Samaraweera who held a media
briefing in the evening said , at
least now Maharaja organization ,the conspirators
who are working according to the destructive agenda of the
Rajapakse regime and therefore the
true enemies of the UNP , but ostensibly conducting themselves
as pro UNP ers, must be
identified by the true lovers of the party . It is the bounden
duty of all sincere lovers of the UNP
to unite and concertedly pulverize the conspiratorial plans and
actions of the destructive forces
aligned with the Rajapakses and hired by the latter based on a
hidden sinister agenda against

the UNP. The time has come to crush them once and for all, and
that should be now or never ,for even a moments delay may be too
late in the dire circumstances .
While all this destructive violence was raging where Herman
Gunaratne was arrested because
of his brutal shooting and provincial council opposition leader
Krishantha Pushpakumara was
injured and hospitalized , the Sirasa did not report these news
via its channels clearly bearing
testimony to the widespread belief that Sirasa is a media
Institution that knows no principles or
lofty media traditions but rather an Institution standing by
prostitution of media ethics .The Maithri Shiral faceless duo who
too are evil personified , and therefore cannot think or
act in terms of dong anything good loyally , sincerely or
honestly towards the party or the
people , and who went into hiding poking their heads between
their legs when the UNP
leadership staged a massive protest supported by many thousands
against the murderous and
criminal government which is responsible for the ruthless
killings of innocent students who
asked for drinking water , have now come out from their hiding
to organize a march on behalf
of the murderous Rajapakse regime against the opposition , and
pose as heroes when they dont
even deserve a zero position among the sincere UNPers.
These scoundrels are seeking to give all their publicity
campaigns to the Sirasa that gives out
beep beep sound even at the mention of the name Rajapakse
signaling their unscrupulousand sordid allegiance to the murderers
and the corrupt Rajapakses.
