Picker threw the first touchdown of the game and it was as spectacular as it was speculative. Under pressure from the stunting Mark Dears, Picker rolled to his left and off his back foot he put the ball into the end zone for Sam Romelo to collect despite close coverage. “Coach said to me if we get down near their end, just put the ball up, see if we can come down with one”. We had to wait until the 4 th quarter to see that score and before that the game had been one of punts, field position and field goals. Pickers highlight inspired his counterpart as Trent cannon nearly mirrored him soon after. With no one open Cannon rolled to the right but under pressure he stepped back and went deep to Da’Jon McKnight on the deep cross. McKnight out muscled his way to the ball and then beat one or two defenders to jump into the end zone for 10all. If anything the Rams seemed to be getting on top and after stopping Canberra they had a chance to win it. Cannon this time was picked by Nathan Sims after he was hit whilst throwing the ball.

Match Report;

KOOKABURRA’S FIGHT HARD IN OVERTIME WINCanberra,ACT | The Canberra Kookaburra’s had to go into Overtime to get the job done but they prevailed 16-13 against a committed Parramatta Rams.

The young but talented Canberra team went into the game as odd’s on favourites and the pressure that came with that was something the Rams decided to use against them. Experienced Coach Kurt Sorenson put together a defensive game plan that would contain Canberra’s explosive play makers with a view to mounting pressure through frustration on the Kookaburras. “We knew we had to be patient, but we still had to try and make plays” said Quarterback Ryan Picker who came through the challenge with his head held high.

We had to wait until the 4th quarter to see that score and before that the game had been one of punts, field position and field goals.

The interception set Canberra up well within field goal range and Beau Backo put them ahead 13-10 with 1m30 remaining.

With the sell out crowd roaring Cannon went right back to work. After a couple of drive starters he then connected big time down the left sideline to Percy Harvin for 33 yards. This allowed Backo to send the game into the 5th quarter with a short field goal.

Winning the toss in overtime was all important. Canberra again got the luck and with gritty determination proceeded to take the ball down the field 54 yards on 12 plays. Quickly setting up Monikura Joe the Kookaburra’s nailed the game winner from 35 yards out and now have a date with the Marlins for a spot in the Grand Final.
