WelcomeStudents are at the heart of all we do at Reaseheath College. The Faculty of Higher Education is a place where academic excellence and student satisfaction go hand in hand to provide a unique higher education experience for our students.

Our portfolio of programmes are designed with employers and the industries that we serve, to ensure that our graduates lead the way in the job market. Nearly 90% of our graduates are in related careers witihin six months of leaving Reaseheath thanks to our world class specialist facilities and hands on training that supports academic learning.

In recent years the college has seen over £50 million worth of investment in cutting edge teaching facilities and student resources, such as on-site accommodation with more planned over the coming years.

In May 2014, the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), reviewed the quality of the higher education at Reaseheath and commended the quality of student learning opportunities, the enhancement of students learning opportunities. They found no areas for improvement but identified many areas of good practice.

The ‘Reaseheath Experience’ is something many of our graduates tell us was the most enjoyable time of their lives. We want our students to succeed in their chosen careers and we recognise that high performers learn through experience as well as through formal learning.

campusOurNational Centre for Horticulture, the Environment and Sustainable TechnologyOpened in October 2015, this state-of-the-art technical facility is used for food crop trials and specialist research activities.

Reaseheath Food CentreThe centre boasts one of the best food processing halls in europe. It is internationally renowned in the food and drink sector and is the only one of its kind to achieve Grade A BRC7 standard. It’s also the chosen training provider to the Eden International Dairy Academy and is the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink Centre of Excellence for Dairy.

The FarmAs a regional centre for agricultural education, our college farm has world class facilities. The working farm has a top of the range rapid exit milking parlour and anaerobic digester. It’s also home to Reaseheath Pedigree High Yielding Holsteins and Youngstock.


Our beautiful campus is set amongst 330 hectares of farm, zoo parklands and woodlands and even has its own lake, perfect for relaxing with friends on a sunny day.

The Faculty of Higher Education is the main base for degree students on campus. This dedicated building has open-access IT suites, classrooms, a dual screen lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, quiet study area and a social area with café.

Nantwich


Reaseheath is set in a stunning rural location in Nantwich, in the heart of Cheshire.

A medieval market town with a contemporary edge, Nantwich is an attractive town with numerous shops, cafés and restaurants. It is great for a night out with plenty of pubs and nightclubs hosting weekly student nights. There are some great places to visit nearby including Chester Zoo, Oulton Park race circuit, Go Ape at Delamere Forest and Alton Towers.

Transport links for Nantwich are excellent with the nearby M6 motorway, Crewe railway station and a bus and train station in Nantwich. Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Liverpool Ferry Port and Manchester Airport are approximately an hour’s journey from the campus.

The nearby cities of Chester, Liverpool and Manchester all offer great days and fun nights out. Spend a day in Chester at the races, hire a rowing boat on the River Dee or walk the famous City Walls. Liverpool is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with more listed buildings, museums and galleries than any city outside of London. Also renowned for its football and music, Manchester offers something for every taste, from live music and sports, theatres and art to shopping.

There’s loads to see and do in the great outdoors and our location provides excellent opportunities for a wide variety of outdoor pursuits. For real adventure and beautiful scenery, North Wales, the Peak District and Lake District are all within easy travelling distance with plenty of opportunities for walkers, mountain bikers, horse riders, watersports enthusiasts and rock climbers.

Higher Education SupportOur specialist Higher Education Support Team (HEST) based in the Faculty of Higher Education, offer advice for students with a range of disabilities including learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, ASD, health conditions and mental health needs.

HEST has a team of experienced mentors and specialist tutors for one to ones and mentoring sessions. The team can also provide confidential advice and guidance in order to apply for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA).

As an Approved Assessment Centre for Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) we can assess any student wishing to attend a higher education institution anywhere in the country.

Library and Learning ResourcesThe library is well stocked with a wide variety of books, eBooks, magazines and journals and there is electronic access on and offsite to a significant collection of e-resources to support you in your studies. The library is open weekdays through to early evenings and at the weekend.

Students studying on courses validated by the University of Chester also have access to library facilities at the Chester campus.

Available fundingWhether you are studying full or part-time, student loans or grants are available to help you with living costs and tuition fees. Other financial support, including bursaries and scholarships, may be available to eligible students depending on individual circumstances and is non-repayable.

Additional help is also available for students who are leaving care, are in financial hardship, have children or adult dependants, or have a disability. Funding includes the Childcare Grant, Parents’ Learning Allowance, Adult Dependants’ Grant and the Disabled Students’ Allowance. For more information visit: gov.uk/apply-for-student-finance

Reaseheath have several means-tested bursary schemes available to help provide additional financial support to those who need it.

The Deal at Reaseheath – available for students with a household income of £25,000 or under, The Deal is a £100 package allocated for course materials.

The Reaseheath Bursary – available to students who maintain an average attendance of over 90%, The Reaseheath Bursary is paid in two instalments of £450 in January and May.

ASPIRE – any Level 3 Reaseheath College students who progress onto a full-time Harper Adams University validated programme will receive a £1,000 bursary in their first academic year if they meet relevant criteria.

The Reaseheath Trust – this emergency hardship fund is available to eligible students on Harper Adams University validated programmes.

Study Tour Support Fund – designed to support students who may struggle to meet the costs of study tours, this bursary is subject to eligibility criteria.

LoansAll eligible full and part-time students may apply for a tuition fee loan to cover their tuition fees. This loan is not means-tested; it can be taken out to cover the full cost of your fees from Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, SAAS (Scotland) or Student Finance Northern Ireland, and they will pay the fees directly to us on your behalf.

You can also apply for a means-tested maintenance loan to help towards your living costs whilst you study with us. You can receive up to £8,200 in support each year.

You only start paying your loan back once you have finished studying and are earning over £21,000 per year. Further information is available at: slc.co.uk

If you are from the Irish Republic or the rest of the EU and studying in England, you will pay the same tuition fees as UK students. EU students can apply for a loan to cover the cost of tuition fees. For more information visit: gov.uk

International students and students from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are subject to different funding arrangements to mainland UK students. For information on support available to you for tuition fees and living costs you should check your Government’s education website.

Student Finance


For some of you, coming to study with us will mean living away from home for the first time. Finding the right place to live is important and living in halls of residence helps with the transition from home to university.

Our halls of residence are all based on campus and offer single en-suite bedrooms with a work station and WiFi, 24-hour security including a Safeguarding Officer and CCTV.

There is a choice of either catering or self-catering facilities. The catered option includes breakfast, lunch and evening meals, which are served daily in our restaurant. For those who opt for self-catering each hall has a self-catering kitchen area designated to a number of students. Other dining outlets include Feast

café and the HE café, with the College Shop selling various snacks and meal deals.

Applications for accommodation are sent out in student joining packs in June to those holding a firm offer. Room allocations are confirmed mid-August. All full-time Higher Education students can apply for residential accommodation. This offer is made to all applicants who live more than a reasonable daily travelling distance from Reaseheath and who apply during the normal admissions cycle.

For students who require specialist facilities, there are a limited number of residential places available. Rooms are allocated on assessment of disability but no provision is available in halls for students who need specialist medical or nursing care.

Additional qualifications are specific to each subject area and are listed on the course pages on our website. Where possible we aim to provide these as part of your programme of study but a subsidised cost may be charged for some.

Employers often require industry specific qualifications in addition to a degree, so these practical qualifications can enhance career prospects and employability. Robert Yardley FdSc in Agriculture

Re-entering farming in his early 20s after experiencing several other industries, Robert joined Reaseheath to further his career prospects. So far Robert’s been put forward to represent the college at the Oxford Farming Conference (OFC), leading to him winning the OFC travel scholarship where he attended the Young DLG Conference at Agritechnica, Germany. Since returning from Germany, Robert’s taking every opportunity to learn more about agriculture in other EU countries and looks forward to seeing where his agriculture degree will take him next.

OverviewDo you have a love of the great outdoors and want to combine this with a passion for travel, adventure and teamwork? Our Foundation Degree in Adventure Sports and Coaching offers you the opportunity to develop a career in this exciting and diverse industry.

Overview This course is ideal for those aspiring to a career in sports coaching. You will develop practical and professional skills whilst gaining an understanding of the theory behind sports coaching.

What will I study?First year modules may include psychology for sport and exercise, professional development for sports coaches and anatomy and physiology, with a focus on developing practical sports coaching skills, alongside opportunities to gain National Governing Body Coaching Awards.

Course overviewThis Top-Up programme delivers a high level of technical and scientific knowledge whilst introducing you to new and innovative business management techniques.

What will I study?The focus of the Top-Up programme is on leadership and performance management, developments in agricultural science, innovations in precision agriculture, principles of lean management, sustainable intensification and includes an honours research project.

Course overviewThrough a mix of theoretical study and practical experience this programme will thoroughly prepare you to professionally and ethically undertake a wide range of roles in the canine industry.

Course overviewThis part-time degree has been designed to give you a broad and balanced understanding of the countryside management industry leading on to a successful career within the sector.

Course overviewAn environmental qualification is very transferable, both within Europe and the rest of the world. Graduates with specific knowledge and practical skills in environmental science, e.g. Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), ecological surveys and habitat restoration are in high demand.

What will I study?You will develop a broad skill set during the course through a combination of practical and theoretical work, fully preparing you for work within the industry. Course overviewThis course will prepare you for employment in the fields of equine performance and rehabilitation. Using physical therapies and remedial ground-working techniques you will gain the relevant skills and knowledge to address musculo-skeletal problems in horses.

What will I study?Year 1 modules provide an introduction to ground-working techniques in addition to the core science modules, equine systems anatomy and physiology and equine behaviour and welfare. Practical competencies in sports horse management will be developed in work-based modules, helping to prepare you for employment.

Course overviewThe Professional Certificate Food Technology is aimed at those working in the food industry who wish to further develop their technical knowledge and work specific skills, enabling career development and progression.

Course overviewThis course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in bakery or patisserie, either within a craft or industry setting, in roles such as quality management, production or new product development.

What will I study?First year modules develop essential knowledge and skills of the bakery industry alongside the science behind bakery ingredients including flour, sugar and chocolate. You will also develop your artisan bakery skills and gain an understanding of business and law.

A new product development project is undertaken during year 2 alongside modules in food innovation, applied nutrition, artisan patisserie and desserts, industrial bread making and quality assurance.

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Degree, there is an option to progress onto the one year BSc Top-Up to gain a BSc (Hons) Food Manufacturing with Operations Management (see page 66).

Course overviewAs part of Project Eden, this course ensures the UK dairy industry has the very best dairy technology training in Europe and is designed to develop well-rounded dairy technologists with a passion for the industry.

What will I study?This course covers all aspects of dairy technology including practical hands-on craft skills alongside key science principles and process improvement techniques. First year modules will include dairy chemistry and microbiology, workplace practices, cleaning-in-place and chemical technology, food and dairy safety, quality assurance and milk and dairy derivatives as raw materials.

Year 2 modules include butter and milk fat technology, cheese and fermented product technology, dairy process engineering, milk processing and continuous improvement and project management.

In your final year you will undertake a dairy professional project alongside modules in dairy industry automation, dairy supply chain, sustainability and environmental awareness, process control and dairy innovation.

Course overviewIdeal for those seeking employment in garden and landscape design, this course will enhance your creative design skills as well as your understanding of historic garden conservation and management. You will also develop skills in technical drawing, Computer Aided Design (CAD), contracts and business management.

What will I study?Year 1 modules focus on plant use and utilisation, historical context, plant and soil science, design principles, visual and design communication with an introduction to business and human resources.

Students will work on a contemporary design and professional project in year 2 with modules including conservation management, planting design, specification and establishment of soft landscape, project and contract management, historic garden restoration and hard landscape.

Part-time CoursesFor all part-time courses, A Levels or a Level 3 subject in a relevant discipline is required. However, in some circumstances relevant work experience will be taken into consideration and applicants will be considered on an individual basis.

We consider each application on its merits. We may be flexible in our normal offer if you can show a commitment to succeed and have relevant skills and experience, for example, through employment, voluntary work or private study.
