Reauthorization of STAR

AB250 -- Requires the State Superintendent of Instruction to make recommendations for changes to STAR that reflect an assessment system that would meet the requirements of the current ESEA.

STAR in 2013-14 (requires new legislation)

ELA (CST, CMA, CAPA)

-Grades 3 – 8, 10 (CAPA only), 11 (CST only)

Math (CST, CMA, CAPA)

-Grade level exams in Grades 3 – 7

-Algebra in Grades 7 & 8, if applicable

-General Math in Grade 8 in no Algebra

-Alg. II or H.S. Summative Math for Grade 11

Science (CST, CMA, CAPA)

Current Pilot: – 10,000+ items and performance tasks – Two million students – LBUSD: Burcham K-8, Cleveland, Garfield, Henry K-8,

Lafayette, Monroe K-8, Muir K-8, Robinson, Cubberley

Common Assessment Formats

Paper and pencil testing

Computer based testing (CBT)– Uses fixed form but is administered using a computer

Computer adaptive testing (CAT)– Presents harder or easier questions, depending on how

the student performs as the test proceeds– Can provide greater accuracy with fewer questions
