bypass. • Identify and explain how both the favorable and unfavorable outcomes are directly

related to cardiopulmonary bypass and recent advances with this technology. • Explain how blood cardioplegia (a form of myocardial protection) preserves heart

function and improves survival rates.• Recognize the high risk patient who would better benefit from a surgical approach

as opposed to an interventional procedure.
