Everett Urban led the team, tak- ing second at 152 pounds. Jacob Helm and Jacob Larue came in third at 112 and 215 pounds. Brent Juenemann and Nathan Simonsson took fourth at 119 and 171. Colby won the tournament with 209.5 points, followed by Good- land, 157.5; St. Francis, 102; Oak- ley, 90.5; Hoxie, 65; Oberlin, 60.5; and Atwood, 53. Going up against the Goodland Cowboys, ranked third in the state in Class 3-2-1A, was tough on the Oberlin Red Devils, who were only able to win two out of nine matches and had to forfeit in five weight classes. Goodland beat Oberlin 60-12 in a dual meet Friday at the Decatur Community High gym. Oberlin was not able to fill the 103, 130, 135, 160 or 285-pound weight classes, thus automatically forfeiting 30 points. Oberlin started out short on a couple of weights, then academics and injuries put several more wrestlers out of com- mission, Coach Joe Dreher said. “It’s difficult to compete in any dual giving up five weights,” Coach Dreher said. “I thought the guys wrestled hard. Goodland is one of the top teams in the state.” Wrestling were: • 112 pounds, Jacob Helm pinned Corey Davis. • 119 pounds, Brent Juenemann pinned Seth Miller. • 125 pounds, Nolan Peters lost 13-0 to Kade Sheldon. • 140 pounds, Ray Zodrow lost 5-1 to Hector Sariana. • 145 pounds, Gatlin Reichert was pinned by Lorenzo Delgado. • 152 pounds, Everett Urban lost 4-2 to Keegan Smith. • 171 pounds, Nathan Simonsson lost 11-2 to Ryan Taylor. • 189 pounds, Jaxen Alstrom lost 9-1 to Fernando Martinez. • 215 pounds, Jacob Larue was pinned by Tanner Oharah. In junior varsity action: • 145 pounds, Kaden Macfee lost 7-4 to Sloan Ruehs, then pinned Mi- chael Freeman in the third period. On Friday, the team faces another ranked opponent. The Colby Eagles will be in Oberlin for the Red Devils’ last home dual and senior night. “Colby is the No. 1 team in Class 4A,” Coach Dreher noted. On Saturday the team will be wrestling in the Southwest High Tournament at Red Willow, Neb., east of McCook on U.S. 34. Red Devil boys down Cowboys in overtime game The Oberlin Red Devil basketball team pulled out an overtime victory last Friday, beating the Cowboys 53-50 in Goodland. Goodland outscored Oberlin in the first quarter, 15-10. While the Cowboys were able to hang on to a slim lead for most of the rest of the game, they never outscored the De- catur Community High boys again. In the second quarter, both teams hit for 8 points, giving Goodland a 23- 18 lead going into the half. Oberlin outscored the host team in both the third quarter, 13-10, and the fourth, 13-11, to tie up the game at 44 when the buzzer rang. In overtime, Lucas Juenemann hit a three pointer right off the bat. Jacob Fortin added a basket plus two out of four free throws and Toby Peters hit both his foul shots to put up 9 points. The Cowboys made three baskets for 6 points but only got to the free throw line once — and missed. With Oberlin getting eight free shots and Goodland only one in overtime, the Red Devils were able to show that fouls do count and so does making those charity shots. Helping with the Oberlin win were J. Goodland beats Oberlin girls team The Decatur Community High School basketball girls fell 48-38 to the Cowgirls on Friday in Good- land. In the first quarter, the Lady Red Devils trailed 14-9. They fell 5 points behind Goodland in the second quarter, 16-11, to suffer a 30-20 deficit at the half. Oberlin did better in the second half. The girls were outscored by one in the third quarter, 12-11, but outplayed the Cowgirls 7-6 in the fourth. “Defensively, the girls are playing very well,” Coach Melissa Dreher said. “We need to be more patient with our offense. Overall, the girls are improving each week.”

Scoring were Miki Dorshorst, 11 points; Keatra Fisher, 9; Cassidy Shields and Jordin Wasson 2 each; and Darbi Rouse, 1.

The seventh-grade girls played a close game but lost 25-18.

“The girls did a much better job this week,” said Coach Witt. “They attacked the boards. It was a nice improvement.”

fairly well,” Coach Shane Bird said. “For a lot of the kids, it was first-time wrestling.”

The boys will be in Goodland on Thursday to take on the Mustangs from Grant Junior High and the Oakley Plainsmen.
