A WELCOME FROM THE HEADMASTERTHE AUTUMN EDITION OF RED HOUSE TIMES, ISSUED AS THE DAYS ARE DRAWING IN, REMINDS US OF WARM SUMMER DAYS, OF SPORTS DAYS, THE PROMS IN THE COURTYARD AND THE PTA FETE.We can also bask in the g low of yet another excellent set of GCSE results, a continuing testament to the hard work of children and their teachers across the School. I am sure you wil l f ind much of interest, and for those who were present it wil l trigger pleasant memories.

ANOTHER YEAR OF OUTSTANDING GCSE RESULTS
OUR GCSE RESULTS CONTINUE TO GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH WITH OVER 98% OF PUPILS FAR EXCEEDING THE GOVERNMENT BENCHMARK OF FIVE OR MORE A* - C GRADES.

taken. Nathania Ewruje and Zoe
Johnson were also delighted to
gain 9 A*s and 1 A.

Subjects in which pupils
particularly excelled included
chemistry, physics, geology
and Spanish with every pupil
entered achieving either an A
or A* grade.

OVER 55% OF THE GCSE EXAMS TAKEN GAINED A OR A* GRADES AND 29% OF PUPILS ACHIEVED THE HIGHEST GRADE OF A*.

PRIZE GIVING PARENTS AND PUPILS GATHERED AT THE STOCKTON BAPTIST TABERNACLE TO CELEBRATE THE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS OF OUR PUPILS.
The afternoon was fi l led with motivational
speeches, musical performances and
impressive dance routines. Pupils
gave presentations about their
exper iences and highl ights over the
academic year which brought back
many fond memor ies. The boys’ PE
gave an amazing account of their
spor ting success with Harr ison
putting his acting ski l ls to the test
by taking on the role of Mr Crewe
– it was br i l l iant!
THE NURSERY & INFANT SCHOOL CELEBRATED THEIR YEAR AT THE ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF ACHIEVEMENT.
Children from each year spoke confidently
about their highl ights. Delightful music and
poetr y recitals were performed and Year 3
pupils were presented with their Nurser y &
Infants graduation cer tificates.
WELL DONE ISOBEL, MATTHEW, FRANCESCA, SEREN, RONA AND LAURA FOR COMPETING IN THE SEMI-FINALS OF THE JUNIOR LANGUAGE CHALLENGE.
They studied hard learning Japanese for the
competit ion, and competed against 30 pupils from
across the nor th east. Isobel and Matthew were
announced the winner s and wil l now compete
in the finals in London. They wil l need to study
Somali and wil l join a group of 30 pupils from
across the countr y.

WINNERS OF THE ACCOUNTANCY, BUSINESS & SKILLS COMPETITION
WELL DONE TO OUR YEAR 10 TEAM WHO TOOK PART IN THE STOCKTON SIXTH FORM ACCOUNTANCY, BUSINESS AND SKILLS COMPETITION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ICAEW.
The team took on the role of Char tered Accountants;
analysing a business case study and identifying its
chal lenges. In the final they explored solutions for
their chosen business and presented their findings to
an exper t panel of judges. Congratulations on winning
the competit ion!
RACING TO VICTORY
AFTER A FEW TECHNICAL REPAIRS THE YEAR 6 RED HOUSE RACING TEAM WERE ALL SET FOR THEIR GREENPOWER RACE AT SUNDERLAND.
The team did magnificently well gaining 2nd place
(they just missed 1st place by one point!) . They won
an award for the ‘Best Presented Car’ ; another well
deser ved trophy.
EVENING OF DRAMA
THE KEY STAGE 2 & 3 EVENING OF DRAMA WAS A HUGE SUCCESS. PARENTS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY WERE THOROUGHLY ENTERTAINED WATCHING KEY STAGE 2 PERFORM THEIR SHORT PLAYS, WHICH WERE BASED UPON TRADITIONAL FAIRY TALES.

and the audience enjoyed an
energetic dance routine by
the Dance Club. Well done
to ever yone who took par t and thank you to ever yone
who came along to suppor t the event.
PROMS IN THE COURTYARD
EVERYONE ENTERED INTO THE SPIRIT OF THE CELEBRATIONS AT THE NURSERY & INFANTS SCHOOL AND ENJOYED HAVING A GOOD SING-ALONG.
We were treated to a number of solo
musical performances by the children
and the staff performed
‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boys’ .

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM - TRIPS & TOURS
BRINGING LEARNING TO LIFEThank you to al l of our vis itors who have shared stor ies and their exper iences .
Reception learnt about sea creatures at the Blue Reef Aquarium and explored the Souter Lighthouse.
As part of their mini beast topic Nursery children visited the RSPB reserve at Saltholme.
Year 1 discovered what it was like living in Victorian Britain at Ormesby Hall.
As part of their religious studies on northern saints, Year 2 visited Bede’s World and learnt about the life of St. Bede in the monastery.
Year 3 travelled back in time and visited the Viking settlement at Murton Park.
As part of their studies on the Aztecs
in history and life in modern Mexico
in geography, Year 4 enjoyed a taste of
Mexico at Chiquitos!
Year 5 visited the Egyptian and Greek galleries at the Hancock Museum and learnt about the Jewish faith at the Orthodox Synagogue.
Year 6 put their teamwork and survival skil ls to the test on their Outward Bound trip at Derwent Water, Keswick.
Year 7 enjoyed being Tudors at Bolton Castle .
Year 10 worked hard
completing their field work at Keskadale Beck as
part of their geography studies.
TOOTH TROOPERS
Nursery & Infant children enjoyed being Tooth Troopers and learning al l about the importance of good oral health care from the team at Queensway Dental Clinic.
LIFE DURING WORLD WAR II
Mrs Lown visited Year 1 and shared her very interesting experiences of l i fe during World War II.
SARI
Year 1 were treated to a visit by Dr Ramachandran who showed the children how to wear a sari.
BASIC FIRST AID
Cleveland Ambulance Service spoke to Year 6 about basic f irst aid and the pupils had the opportunity to practise CPR.
GUIDE DOGS
Guide Dogs for the Blind spoke to Year 6, about the vital role guide dogs play in the l i ves of people with visual impairment.
WILDFOWL & WETLANDS TRUST, WASHINGTON
Year 4 and Year 5 took part in a very interesting and interactive workshop learning about habitats and l i fe cycles.

In the team competit ion the senior team finished in
2nd place , the intermediate team finished in 4th place
and the junior team also finished in 2nd place . In the
overal l standings, Red House achieved 4th place .
TRIATHLONRebecca Hall represented the School in the ISA
Tr iathlon on Wednesday 7th May at Lucton School and
gained a bronze medal.
BOYS’ SPORTS REPORTBY MR CREWE AND MR KITCHING
CRICKETRED HOUSE TEAMS ENJOYED AN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL SEASON. IN TOTAL THE TEAMS PLAYED 15 MATCHES AND WON 14
The U11’s beat strong opposit ion in matches against
Durham Chor ister s, Bow School and Terr ington Hall .
Atticus Gar l ick and Matthew McDonaugh performed
well with the bal l and Atticus and Josh Taylor both
batted effectively. Unfor tunately their season was
badly affected by the weather with several matches
rained off .
The U12’s lost a tight match at Yarm but played
excellent cr icket to beat NSFB comfor tably, Ben
Swindale hitt ing 55 not out and taking 4 for 11.
The U13’s played the most consistent cr icket beating
Terr ington, TSHS, Fyl ing Hall , Chor ister s, Argyle House
and Yarm. Notable contr ibutions included an unbeaten
50 by Sam Nor th against Chor ister s and impressive
bowling by Will Dexter and Ben Swindale throughout
the season.
The U14’s beat Yarm with Sam Chell scor ing valuable
runs and Sam Korsen returning incredible bowling
figures of 5 for 2!
The U15’s benefitted from the exper ience of captain
Ben Tomlinson in their matches. They secured victor ies
against Yarm, Argyle House and TSHS. Michael Andrews
hit an aggressive 56 n.o. and Sam Master son, Ross
Har l l and Jack Hewitt always threatened with the bal l .
Ben Tomlinson, Sam Nor th, Wil l Dexter, Ben Swindale
and Atticus Gar l ick al l played county cr icket dur ing the
season.

OVER £1340
JOGATHON RAISED £1,235.20 FOR DAISY CHAINThe children had lots of fun jogging
around the field in the annual Jogathon
to raise vital funds for Daisy Chain.
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE PROJECTS RAISED A TOTAL OF £774.16Year 6 put their entrepreneur ial ski l ls to the test
by devising their own business projects which
involved thinking of a product, making it , sel l ing
it and then choosing a char ity for their proceeds
to go to. Projects included snow cones, homemade
fudge , waff les, loom bands, per sonalised wooden
keyr ings, bath bombs, decorated chocolate spoons,
mocktai ls , collapsible water bottles, per sonalised
phone cases and even a Wor ld Cup penalty shoot
out competit ion! They have raised a lot of money
for their chosen char it ies; Cancer Research, RETT
UK, Par tial ly Sighted Society, Teenage Cancer Trust,
Parkinson UK, RSPCA and The Dogs Trust. Amber and Scout decided
to put their funds towards sponsor ing a Guide Dog puppy for the
year ; what a br i l l iant idea!
NURSERY & RECEPTIONChildren had lots of fun at the Nursery & Infants Sports Day taking part in a huge variety of sporting events.
