Open all Hours Productions presents

OPEN ALL HOURS Open All Hours Productions presents its tour of the critically acclaimed stage adaptation of the hugely popular legendary BBC television series Open All Hours. Written by Roy Clarke OBE, and first aired in 1973, this much loved classic sitcom has been specially commissioned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its television premiere.

The production skilfully blends together classic moments from over 20 episodes into a rib-tickling evening of visual humour and comedic lines made famous by Britain’s favourite shop keeper Albert Arkwright, and his put-upon errand boy, Granville.

As a nation of shopkeepers, Arkwright’s emporium proves that we love nothing more than the real life that is found in that great institution, the corner shop....

“A terrific 40th anniversary celebration of a memorable television show.” Sir David Jason OBE

Two Way Mirror is two related short plays by Arthur Miller, ‘Elegy for a Lady’ and ‘Some Kind of Love Story’ which can be presented together. In Elegy for a Lady a man enters a shop in search of a gift for his dying mistress. He gradually finds himself confiding in the shop’s proprietress who, rather curiously during the course of their conversation, seems to assume the characteristics of the absent mistress. As they very openly speak of their concerns and anxieties, the strangers are bought together and share a closeness which both have sought but never found. ‘Miller at his best!’ – The Daily Mail. Some Kind of Love Story is a compelling study of two people destined by their mutual dependence to tear one another apart. Tom, a Chandleresque private eye, finds himself bound to the prostitute Angela whom he believes holds the vital information he desperately requires to resolve the case that has occupied him for years. The fragile and unstable Angela will, however, never reveal what she knows for she is equally bound to Tom in the desperate hope of receiving the warmth and affection she has always been denied. “An excellent, powerful play.” – The Guardian.

Two of the most iconic performers of a generation Jim Davidson and Richard Digance join forces again for the

spring of 2014, performing at theatres across the country.

For over a decade, Jim Davidson dominated prime time TV comedy with smash hit shows such as Big Break and The

Generation game whilst, at the same time, breaking box office records across the UK with a series of sell out theatre

tours and pantomime. To this day he remains one of the most popular stand-up comedians of all time.

BAFTA nominee Richard Digance, a major TV star in his own right, is heralded by musicians and comedians alike as one of the most influential comedy song writers, performers and musicians ever. Evidenced by his Gold Award from The

British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

Having appeared together many times throughout the eighties, travelling the world, often to entertain our troops

in some of the most inhospitable places imaginable, the two come together again in celebration of great times,

great memories and great shows.

Very much a night of music and laughter not to be missed!

Billy Pearce – Funny Guy National treasure, and without doubt one of Britain’s most talented and best loved comedians, Billy Pearce emerged from the fertile talent fields of Butlins in the mid 1980’s. Multi Award winner Billy, has won just about every comedy award going, including a British comedy award, Solo comedian of the year, and Best television comedy newcomer at the London Palladium.

Billy, first came to National prominence when he appeared in Central TV’s top talent show ‘New Faces’, winning his heat and qualifying for the final. His impact was immediate and he was quickly snapped up for stage and TV appearances, culminating with his first series for BBC television, ‘You Gotta Be Joking’. When variety fell out of fashion in the 1990s, with the rise of alternative comedy, Billy found a niche in family-friendly panto while keeping the razor-sharp wit needed to entertain adult-only audiences.

THE AXEMEN COMETH PRESENTED BY HILLSIDE BLUES – WHO GET THE BLUES TO MAKE YOU HAPPY

The Axemen Cometh is the show for all the blues rockers out there, all made up from guitar leads in blues bands. We have Heavy Oil fronted by Wrathschild’s frontman Lance Perkins who toured Europe in the 80’s with their 5 albums. Lance’s intense solos and is boundless energy is followed by none other than Devlin Blue. A three piece band that consists of guitarist Dave Devlin, bassist Sam Varlow and drummer Craig Richards get the blues running with an infectious beat.

Aynsley Lister follows on with his explosive natural ability that collides with fiery, emotionally charged compositions. He is an incredible guitarist whose brand of blues-based rock delivers contemporary song writing fuelled with the kind of heart and soul that’s missing from so much modern music.

This is a charity event held for Redditch Heartsafe, a great charity whose aim it is to campaign and raise money to put defibrillators in to every school, sports facility and public places. Funds raised will go to the purchase and training for use of this equipment which saves many lives every year.

SUNJAY BRAYNEA captivating young performer; Sunjay is an extremely talented blues, folk guitarist and singer/songwriter who is well known on the UK folk/roots scene, Sunjay is an artist with a rare mix of youth (he has just turned 20), combined with a seemingly effortless mastery of the acoustic guitar.

Sunjay’s first musical love was Buddy Holly, closely followed by Don McLean, firmly rooting him with a blues and folk mix.

Reminiscent of Ralph McTell and John Martyn, Sunjay’s performances have been described as “mature & confident”, while his guitar playing has been hailed as “superb, brilliant, experienced, intricate & faultless”.

Sunjay is busy, in 2014 he’ll be playing over 100 gigs and is currently working on a new album for an Autumn release, with a major headline tour to support the album. He has supported the likes of Martin Simpson, Passenger, Phil Beer and Terry Reid, to name a few. Palace Youth Theatre

The Palace Youth Theatre runs weekly workshops which are divided into age categories. Sessions differ depending on the age of the children in the group, the leader taking it and the needs of the participants. Sessions include drama games, details of performance techniques, using improvisation, script work, movement pieces, vocal performance and lots more. The Palace Youth Theatre provides its members the opportunity to audition for two main performances each year which are performed on the main stage. These shows are taken seriously and auditions are held which ensure that actors who are most suited to the roles are cast. The shows performed by the youth theatre tend to have large casts and there are many opportunities for members to be involved. We always have great fun in youth theatre shows and they are seen as a great privilege to be a part of.

FACILITIES FOR DISABLED PATRONS

ACCESS AND SAFETY The Palace Theatre welcomes all visitors, regardless of disability or mobility problems, to all its productions and events; we intend to make every visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The best approach to the theatre is on Grove Street where there is limited disabled parking.

BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED Guide dogs are admitted into all public areas of the building including our auditoria. Theatre staff will be more than happy to look after guide dogs during performance and events, seats can be allocated close to entrances if required (subject to availability) .

DEAF AND HEARING IMPAIRED There is a loop system in the auditorium which can be used with hearing aids set to the ‘T’ position. Details of signed performances where available can be found with individual show information. Signed performances with specially allocated seats close to the signer can be arranged.

IMPAIRED MOBILITY There is a lift to all front of house areas, main auditorium and studio. Wheelchair users have easy access to the foyer through automatic doors from Alcester Street. Wheelchair positions are now located in the stalls and in a wheelchair box in the circle. Please see plan above. Accessible toilets are available on all levels of the Palace Theatre.
