Student objectives (outcomes):Students will be able to:Accurately determine what information can be found in the various reference books and online reference sources. Students will be able to complete a scavenger hunt locating the answers to a variety of questions in the different reference sources found in the library. These reference

sources can be found in both print and digital format.

Stage 2 – Assessment EvidencePerformance Task(s):

Goal: Students will be able to locate information in a variety of reference source formats in the media center.

Role: The student is on a scavenger hunt locating information using reference sources found in both print and digital format in the media center.

Audience: Classmates, teachers, and media specialists

Situation: You are to use your knowledge of what information can be found in each type of reference source. You will then locate the answers to the scavenger hunt questions using your reference source knowledge.

Product Performance and Purpose: The students need to locate the answers to the questions on the scavenger

hunt worksheet. The students need to find the information using the reference sources in both print and electronic formats.

Standards and Criteria for Success: The questions must be answered accurately. The source where the information was located must be cited as the websites or databases that were used in locating the information.

Stage 3 – Learning PlanLearning Activities:

W-Where/What/ and Why: The LMS will discuss and explain what reference sources are with the students using the Web 2.0 tool . The teacher will show the students a variety of sources explaining what types of information is found in each of the sources. The LMS will discuss the following reference sources: Dictionary Almanac Encyclopedia Thesaurus Atlas Galileo

H-Hook/Hold:The LMS will show the students what reference sources are available on the ipad. The LMS will show the students how to

use reference sources in digital format.

E-Equip:The LMS will discuss with the students the importance of citing where the student locates their information. Discuss what plagiarism is with the students.The LMS will introduce and explain the scavenger hunt activity.

R-Rethink/Revise:The LMS will ask questions to see if the students understand how to use reference sources and locate information. The LMS will make sure that the students are citing their sources and that they are understanding the scavenger hunt activity.

E-Evaluate:As students work on their scavenger hunt they will evaluate their progress using the scavenger hunt worksheet and rubric.

T- Tailor /differentiate:Struggling students may ask the LMS questions about the scavenger hunt. They may also ask their peers for help.

O-Organize:Students will use the scavenger hunt worksheet and rubric to help them stay organized and on task.
