Reflective essay on change
Change is something everybody looks forward to but also something they are afraid of. It
comes in many glorious forms: political, economic, historical or emotional, but in the end the
meaning is the same.
The most often change encountered in the world is the “change of heart”. To define it
simple, we can say that someone changes their opinion or the way they feel about something in
particular. This is frequently influenced by people’s spirit. For instance, if a person has a date or a
business meeting and then, all of the sudden he or she cancels, that means they had a change of
heart about it. Or when we are decided to buy a piece of furniture, for example, and then we don’t
go through with it. But there are also times when we change the way we feel about things, far more
important than a car, a piece of clothing or going out with friends. These states of spirit come from
inside us, the trigger for these them being firstly emotional, and maybe only afterwards rational.
In modern world there are however, besides emotional changes, developmental changes too.
The term is not used in our daily routine, and as a consequence the ones who know its meaning are
those who work with it. It occurs when a company, for example, makes an improvement to their
current business, such as methods of performance standards but also improving their process. These
changes usually take place in order for a company to stay on the market longer, but also because of
the competitive nature of this field. It can be said that employees are not affected by these changes,
actually for them, it comes relatively easy to adapt, for which the measurements taken are not
radical.
Another type of change that people hear about only occasionally is the chemical change. It
occurs when a substance combines with another in order to form a new chemical compound, or,
alternately, decomposes in two or more different substances. When this type of reactions happens,
the atoms are rearranged and energy is realised as new products are generated. These changes were
studied by a lot of scientists throughout history, but maybe the most famous of them were the
Curries. Their achievements included the theory of radioactivity and also the discovery of two new
chemical elements, namely the radium and the polonium. Besides changes in the scientific field, the
couple made some changes worldwide, for their discoveries gave their continuers new paths to
follow.
All in all, it can be said that changes happen with or without our will; we can’t control the
majority of them. But what we can do it take them as they come, accept them and adjust the best we
can in the given circumstances.
