INTERNATIONAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT PMGT 728-101

REFLECTIVE JOURNALThe main idea of writing this journal is to keep a record of my thoughts, my understanding and need about the subject International Project Management PMGT 728-101. Knowledge about International Project managementInitially, when I started the course I thought successful project managers are people who have knowledge about the project management process. After attending this class, I understood that knowledge about the people is also equally important. I still remember the first day of the class where we had our mash mellows team activity. I thought why the professor is asking us to do this weird exercise, and was overconfident that we can build the mash mellow towers within no time. Surprisingly we failed in our activity, which made us to understand the importance of the exercise and subject. I was confident that I know about my team members, but I was actually stereotyping them (Locker & Findlay, 2012), which led to the pitfall. From that instance, I understood that team individuals are different irrespective of their background and culture. International Project Management has given lot of insights about different culture, ethics, and values. It also has given knowledge about global mindset, ethnocentrism, and cultural intelligence. It gave me more insights about concepts like heterosexualism, mapping bridging integration technique, Hofstede theory, Social integration theory, and global integration theory. (Lane, Maznevski, DiStefano, & Dietz, 2009)The main aspect I love about this course is its practical implication. We always had a chance to discuss and debate our thoughts in class, which opened up our minds and pushed us to think out of the box.Practical ImplicationThese concepts were very new to me and it has given me lot of insights about international project management. It elevated my knowledge level, which will definitely help to achieve my aspiration as global leader. For example by using mapping bridging and integration technique, I can resolve all the cultural differences in project team, which will give more advantage that is competitive in my profession. This course has given me exposure to various insights about difficulty and challenges faced in global projects. Concisely I strongly believe that transferable skills and knowledge, which I acquired from this course, will definitely help me to grow in my profession as global leader. ReferencesLane, H.
