A Parent Cooperative After-School Program

Saturday, January 5th – Friday February 13th

The Remsenburg-Speonk PTA After-School Enrichment Committee is pleased to offer another year of great classes for our children. We find professional instructors who provide experiences that enhance the regular school day. Our program is created and run completely by parent volunteers with support from the school staff. The six-week program begins January 5th and runs through February 13th, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:45-4:45; Saturday from 9:30-12:45. Attention Grades 3-6: Due to after school test prep, there will be no classes for most 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders the first week on Monday through Thursday. Most 6th graders will begin classes the week of January 20th due to test prep. Friday classes are not affected. Fees have been adjusted accordingly; refer to the registration form for pricing details. *PLEASE CHECK CLASS DATES AND MARK YOUR CALENDARS CAREFULLY*. NEW THIS YEAR!: Registration will be held in person in the school cafeteria December 2nd from 6-7:30 and December 12th from 10-12:00 and 2-4:00 and is first come, first served. Bring your completed registration form (Both sides). Payment will be due at registration. Please note: Enrichment will follow school closings and early dismissals during inclement weather. If a child cannot attend a particular session, you MUST send a note to the classroom teacher so your child can be dismissed @ 3:30 p.m. Parents should provide a healthy snack and beverage for your child/ren for every session. Children may not bring a guest! Transportation home will not be provided. Parents are required to enter the building to collect their child. If pickup arrangements change, a note is required. Please be on time for the 4:45 dismissal; our volunteers have other responsibilities. Please note: If a parent or guardian is continually late picking up his or her child or if there are chronic behavior problems, the child will be dropped from the program. No refund will be issued. MONDAY PIRATE TREASURE GRADES K-1 MS. LAUREEN ANDRIA Ahoy, Mates! Come join us for some pirate merriment and mischief! We’ll listen to pirate tales, learn about pirate legends, and create lots of pirate booty, such as a pirate ship, flag, treasure chest and map. Shiver me timbers! You’ll be having a good time, argh! Dates: January 5,12,26; February 2,9 Material Fee: $10

NATURE ART GRADES K-1 MS. AMY HESS Arts and crafts with a focus on nature and natural ingredients such as flowers, leaves, shells, fruits and vegetables. Projects might include paint making and gyotaku, Japanese fish painting. Dress for a mess! Dates: January 5,12,26; February 2,9 Material Fee: $10

POM-POM CHEERLEADING GRADES 1-2-3 MS. AIMEE WHITE Kids will learn cheers, a dance routine, various chants and teamwork games. Students should wear comfortable clothing, sneakers, no jewelry, and have hair tied back. Bring a water bottle. Poms will be provided. SIGN LANGUAGE GRADES 1-6 MS. STEPHANIE HARRIGAN Learn how to communicate with your hands. Did you know that American Sign Language is the 4th most commonly used language in the United States? Dates: January 5,12,26; February 2,9 No class January 5 Grades 3-4-5 No class January 12 Grade 6

TUESDAY OPEN PLAY GRADES K-1 MR. TIMOTHY LAMPASONA Children will participate in activities such as parachute games and sports play. Come release energy and unwind after the school day. Dates: January 6,13 20, 27, February 3, 10

INDOOR SOCCER GRADES 2-3 MR. CHRIS BONAWANDT Learn the “fun”-damentals and improve your skills with Coach Chris of Southampton Soccer. Dates: January 6, 13,20, 27; February 3,10 No class January 6 Grade 3 Material Fee: $10

CHESS GRADES 3-4-5-6 MR. ALEX LAMPASONA From pawn to queen—learn how to play chess with our favorite chess expert. Dates: January 13, 20, 27; February 3,10 No class January 13 Grade 6

FUN WITH FLEECE GRADES 3-4-5-6 MS. ABBY VAKAY Meet the main source of Ms. Vakay’s fiber, her pet Angora rabbit “Bun-Bun.” See how much fleece (fur) he grows, how he loves a good brushing. Kids will see how yarn is made, make a spindle to keep and use for yarn-making. They will use natural ingredients like beets, tea, and onions to dye fleece. Using soap, they will “felt” fun things like beads, balls, bags and bangles. Note: Ms. Vakay will be demonstrating in class how she combs her Angora rabbit to collect fleece, for those who might have allergies. KNITTING GRADES 4-5-6 MRS. FLORENCE LAMPASONA Kids will learn how to knit a colorful scarf. Did you know knitting improves your fine motor skills, increases concentration, and teaches patience as well as being fun and creative? Dates: January 13, 20, 27; February 3,10 No class January 13 Grade 6 Material Fee: $10

WHAT’S INSIDE? GRADES 4-5-6 MR. ERIC ALBERT Students dismantle common appliances or electronics to see how they work. Students may attempt to repair or may use parts to build their own creations. Dates: January 13, 20, 27; February 3, 10 No class January 13 Grade 6

THEATER/ACTING GRADES 4-5-6 MS. LIZ RADCLIFFE Using games and exercises children will explore their “inner actor”, learn theater direction and vocabulary, get creative, and hopefully gain a love of theater and performance. Dates: January 13, 20, 27; February 3,10 No class January 13 Grade 6

MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEO: GOING GREEN GRADES 5-6 MS. NAOMI COLLINS Ever wanted to be a TV producer? Now’s your chance! We are going to create a video with a “green” theme—kids will develop the story line, act it out and learn how to edit their very own video. Note: 2 offsite classes to be held @Studio 91 Productions in Westhampton Beach. Parents will need to sign a permission slip and arrange transportation. CAMP INVENTION GRADES 2-3-4 LONG ISLAND SCIENCE CENTER Expand your imagination! Use logic and deductive thinking, develop and test hypotheses, learn to share and work in teams through hands-on discovery. Dates: January 15, 22, 29; February 5, 12 Material Fee: $65.00

POTTERY GRADES 3-4 MS. CLARE BENNETT Our favorite pottery instructor comes back to teach students hand building clay techniques. Kids will create dinner plates, bowls, wind chimes and soap dispenser. Dates: January 15, 22, 29; February 5, 12 Material Fee: $10

COLLAGE GRADES 3-4-5-6 MS. MARGE GOSNELL-QUA Come and enjoy the freedom of collage. Students will make a 2-D collage each week using beautiful patterned papers based on an autobiographical theme (my family, my pet, my vacation). Each collage will become part of a portfolio for the students to keep as a visual autobiography. Dates: January 15, 22, 29; February 5, 12 No class January 15 Grade 6 Material Fee: $10

CAKES, COOKIES & SPRINKLES, OH MY! GRADES 3-6 MS. JEANNE MUELLER, SPRINKLES Children will love this hands-on experience in the culinary arts! Class participants will learn the fun and creative techniques of cake decorating from a pro. Best of all, your child will come home each week with treats to share with the whole family! Classes include cupcake decorating, cookie decorating, a small decorated layer cake, chocolate dipped pretzels, and a decorated valentine house. Register early, this class is sure to be a sell-out! YOGA GRADES 4-5-6 MS. LAURA HARTMAN A playful, creative way to introduce children to the concepts of yoga. Kids will learn in an easy, relaxed setting about strength and balance in their bodies and their minds. We will work with exercises, breathing games, balance and mental calming exercises designed to allow the children to be fully alert yet fully relaxed. Wear loose comfortable clothing, no shoes or socks. Dates: January 15, 22, 29; February 5, 12 No class January 15 Grade 6

FRIDAY DATES: January 9, 16, 23, 30; February 6, 13 ANIMAL MANIA ART GRADES K-1 MS. DANIELLE GRUTTADAURIO Students will enjoy creating artwork and crafts that involve all kinds of animals. Have fun playing, learning and getting messy with different materials such as neon-colored finger-paints, bright foam paper, silly sized goggle eyes, acrylics, oil pastels and other fun to use materials. Material Fee: $5 Note: This class was added after registration forms were sent home. To register, please write it in the blank slot for Friday.

JUMP AND JIVE SPORTS GRADES 1-2-3 MS. JEANA TUMBARELLO From tumbling to tae kwan do, Ms. Tumbarello can show you how to do it all!

AMERICAN GIRL CLUB GRADES 2-3-4 MS. LAUREEN ANDRIA In each class we’ll have a special activity to celebrate a different American Girl character. Classes include nature craft with Kaya, Kirsten’s St. Lucia’s breakfast, a Civil War freedom quilt with Addy, Josefina’s gift for Tia, Samantha’s Victorian Tea, and Molly’s Victory Garden. Material Fee: $10

SCRAPBOOKING GRADES 4-5-6 MS.CHRISTINE SIMONE Students will be introduced to creative ways to express themselves through scrapbooking. Using their own pictures, schoolwork or artwork, students will be able to showcase their diverse personalities. Material Fee: $15

VOLLEYBALL GRADES 4-5-6 MS. BENITA KOSZALKA Remember how much fun it was to watch volleyball at the Olympics? Learn how to dig, serve, hit and spike! Material Fee: $10

SATURDAY DATES: January 10, 17, 24, 31; February 7 A TASTE OF AUSTRALIA MR. CHRIS PITKIN Kids may remember how much fun they had with Chris Pitkin in school last year. Listen to him play the Didgeroo, the world’s oldest wind instrument. Older kids will make their own “Didges” and learn to play them, and both classes will create their own Boomerangs and learn to dot paint them in traditional Aboriginal style. Chris will also talk about Australia’s unique animals and plants. Learn funny expressions from the land “ down under”. Note: Grade 5-6 is a two hour class: 10:30-12:30, Material Fee: $10 Grade 3-4: 9:30-10:30, Material Fee: $5

Note: 4th grade students may attend Recreation at 10:30.

WINTER REC TOM SHEPHERD One of the most popular classes ever! Have a great time running around the gym at a time of year when you are stuck inside. Activities will be age appropriate—i.e. games such as Red Rover for younger kids and sports such as dodge-ball, basketball for older kids will be played. K-1: 11:45-12:45 2-3-4: 10:30-11:30 4-5-6: 9:30-10:30 Note: 4th Grade students who sign up for Aboriginal Art may attend Winter Rec during the 10:30 slot.

MAKE YOUR OWN JEWELRY GRADES 4-5-6 MS. MARJORIE OXMAN 9:30 Fabulous funky jewelry that you can make. In this workshop you will learn to make your own one-of-a-kind jewelry with new and exciting materials. Have fun creating with buttons, paper, glass, embroidery floss, polymer clay, and more! Let your imagination run wild! Material Fee: $10

FAMILY JEWELRY MAKING GRADES 1-2-3 MS. MARJORIE OXMAN 10:30 Spend some quality time with your parent or caregiver making awesome jewelry. Be creative together and learn to use lots of different materials to make cool necklaces, bracelets and more. (One parent or caregiver must accompany each child to class). Material Fee: $10
