INDIAN WIND ENERGYINDIAN WIND ENERGY
SECTOR OVERVIEW
:SECTOR OVERVIEW
: India has the fifth largest installed wind powercapacity in the world.
As of 30 June 2010 the installed capacity of wind
power in India was 12009.48 MW. Wind power accounts for 6% of India's total installed
power capacity, and it generates 1.6% of the country's
power.
Tamilnadu,Maharashtra & Karnataka are the leaders in
the wind capacity.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)
has fixed a target of 10,500 MW between 200712

Sector OverviewSector Overview The potential for hydroelectric power in India is oneof the greatest in the world, India ranks 8th inhydroelectricity generation.
There is potential for an installed capacity of over150,000 MW.
Of the total hydro potential in India, only 15% has so
far been utilized, with another 7% under variousstages of development.
The share of hydroelectricity has gone down to 25%of the overall national power generation capacity.
