Research Restart Governance Process

Research Restart Governance ProcessDetailed Review by “Scale” of Research Restart

What do I as a Dean/Dir./Pres. need to know?• That the buildings used by my School are ready for re-occupation

• Check Building Readiness Tracker on the Pitt HR SharePoint site.

• That I or my ADR have selected a menu of research standards & templates appropriate to the work done in my School

• Standards are by research modality: clinical, pre-clinical, animal resources, STEM individual lab, STEM shared lab, STEM field research, Social Sciences healthy human subjects, Social Science community-based/field research, studio & performing art, libraries, and remote research for colleagues who cannot return to campus

• That the research standards & templates you selected have been communicated to PIs, researchers & scholars, and Chairs.

• That my faculty and administrators have a plan to ramp research back down again if necessary

What do I as a Dean/Dir./Pres. need to do?• Familiarize myself and my leadership group with guidance from the Office of

Human Resources on their SharePoint site• Guidance addresses training supervisors and employees, readying buildings, implementing

safety protocols, notifying employees, and notifying Parking & Transportation and Campus Police.

• Ensure there is a structured review process for restart plans generated by PIs and faculty.

• The review process may be largely conducted by Department Chairs with final sign off by an Associate Dean or by you.

• Ensure that there is an archival process to enable long-term access to all approved restart plans

• Ensure that PPE orders to the Dietrich Stockroom are coordinated appropriately within your School (department-, building- or school-wide)
