Theory I 2 credits Semester TermTheory I is an introductory theory class that focuses on the general elements of music, including: rhythm, time signatures,major and minor keys and scales, modes, intervals, chord types, cadences, basic chord progressions, simpleharmonization, composition, and fundamental form and analysis. Class length: 2 hours Theory II 2 credits Semester TermTheory II is a continuation of the concepts presented in Theory I. Overview of chromaticism including review ofsecondary functions: modulation, mode mixture, Neapolitan triad, augmented sixth chords. Introduction to cadences,phrases, periods, simple part-forms, invertible counterpoint, two–part invention, three–part invention. Continuingexercises in harmonic analysis, four–part voice leading, and composition. The reSound Conservatory offers scholarships for students who demonstrate talent and displaydedication and commitment. These are need-based scholarships and cover partial or all of astudent’s tuition. Tuition Assistance, in the form of payment plans, are also available.
