Humanities

The Humanities, those branches of knowledge that concern themselves with human beings and their culture or with analytic and critical methods of inquiry derived from an

appreciation of human values and of the unique ability of the human spirit to express itself. As a group of educational

disciplines, the humanities are distinguished in content and method from the physical and biological sciences and, somewhat less decisively, from the social sciences. The

humanities include the study of all languages and literatures, the arts, history, religion and

philosophy.

ReligionReligion, human beings’ relation to that which they regard as holy, sacred, absolute, spiritual, divine, or

worthy of especial reverence. It is also commonly regarded as consisting of the way people deal with

ultimate concerns about their lives and their fate after death.

In many traditions, this relation and these concerns are expressed in terms of one’s relationship with or attitude toward gods or spirits; in more humanistic or naturalistic

forms of religion, they are expressed in terms of one’s relationship with or attitudes toward the broader human

community or the natural world.

In many religions, texts are deemed to have scriptural status, and people are esteemed to be invested with spiritual or moral authority. Believers and worshipers

participate in and are often enjoined to perform devotional or contemplative practices such as prayer,

meditation, or particular rituals.

LiteratureLiterature, a body of written works. The name has

traditionally been applied to those imaginative works of poetry and prose distinguished by the intentions of their authors and the perceived aesthetic excellence of their execution. Literature may be classified according to a

variety of systems, including language, national origin, historical period, genre, and subject matter.

Literature is a form of human expression. But not everything expressed in words—even when organized and

written down—is counted as literature. Those writings that are primarily informative—technical, scholarly,

journalistic—would be excluded from the rank of literature by most, though not all, critics. Certain forms of writing,

however, are universally regarded as belonging to literature as an art.

including theater and dance. Today, the fine arts commonly include additional forms, including film,

photography, conceptual arts, and printmaking. However, in some institutes of learning or in museums, fine art and frequently the term fine arts (pl.) as well, are associated

exclusively with visual art forms

Antique Collectors Club – Publications cover antiques, architecture, art, decorative arts, fashion, gardening and nature.

Performing ArtsPerforming arts are art forms in which artists use their body or voice to convey artistic expression.

Performing arts include dance, music, opera, theatre, magic, spoken word, circus arts, recitation and musical theatre.• Artists who participate in performing arts in front of an audience are called performers, including actors, comedians, dancers, magicians, musicians, and singers. Performing arts are also supported by workers in related fields, such as song writing and stagecraft.• Performers often adapt their appearance, such as with costumes and stage makeup, etc.• There is also a specialized form of fine art in which the artists perform their work live to an audience. This is called performance art. Most performance art also involves some form of plastic art, perhaps in the creation of props.
