success of today s sale of Fine American Paintings, Drawings and
Sculpture which achieved the highest total ever for a mid-season
sale in this category at $4.2 million. Strong prices were realized
for in all areas of 20th century
painting and American Modernism and eight auction records were
set, including a record for Ben Shahn s Hamilton Fish Park, which
fetched $158,500,against a high estimate of $35,000. We were also
pleased with the strong results achieved for examples of American
sculpture including worl
for Max Weber s Figure in Rotation , which sold for $218,500,
and Arthur Lee s Volupt, which achieved $92,500 against a high
estimate of $18,000. The liveliness and competitive bidding
witnessed today in the saleroom leaves us looking forward to the
