First and foremost, Happy Father's Day! We wish a very happy day to all our dads and all those who have been like a father to us. Your strength and gentleness, your advice and guidance, your encouragement, support and love are a blessing and wonderful gift to those you care for. We celebrate all males today, for all you have been and will be into the future. Thank you for the blessing you are.

Today, we remember those who are celebrating Father's Day for the first time without their dad or their spouse. Special days like Father's Day can be a very difficult part of the grieving journey. You are in our prayers.

It is fitting that we also remember Fr. Barry Moran who was the first Parish Priest at Resurrection Parish. Fr. Barry served as a priest for 50 years and has recently retired. We remember Fr. Paul Maher who served the St. A's community for many years. We remember him as a significant leader of the community who has also served us well in his retirement. May we now care for him in prayer during his illness. They, like the 85 retired priests living in the Melbourne Archdiocese, have served with love and commitment. This weekend at St. Anthony's, we acknowledge the work of our first parish priest, Fr. Leo Tellefson. A memorial plaque will be blessed at Mass, and in the coming week the plaque will be hung in the Memorial Garden.

This weekend, Pope Francis will canonise Mother Teresa. She has lived an exemplary life of service and care of the poorest in India. Today is a special day for many in our community who have also lived in India and hold this little nun in such high regard.

Australian Catholic Bishops Social Justice in an ageing society.

We celebrate Social Justice Sunday on 25th September. This year, the Australian Bishops' Social Justice Statement is titled “A Place at the Table: Social Justice in an ageing society”.This statement celebrates the value and dignity of older people in Australian life. It challenges us to recognise their significant contribution to society and emphasises that this contribution should not be valued in mere economic terms. The statement calls for justice for those who are most vulnerable and warns about a view older people as burdensome or dispensable.
