philanthropic organizations as asocial worker and director of so-

    cial programs. Unfortunately, a

series of strokes forced an earlyretirement from this wonderful

career. He is currently enjoying a

second career teaching shortcourse at Bergen Community

College. He is also preparing aseries of classes for RiverWalk

    University.

The couple lived in New York

    and Boston where Shirley gave

birth to three babies. They wereliving in St. Louis when baby

    number four arrived. Eventually,

the family moved to Teaneck, NJ

where they lived for 37 years.

Their children have given themmany grandchildren over the

years. Michael, their oldest son, lives in Stratford and is in market-

ing. He is the father of two chil-

dren. Eric works for AmericanExpress and lives in Manhattan

    with his three children. Their

daughter, Miriam, works in thePublic Health sector and lives in

Baltimore. She is the mother of

four children. Ruth, their young-est, is a professor of American

    Cultural History and lives in

Brookline, MA. She is the mother

    of three children.

Don and Shirley have an active

    retirement, taking courses and

attending concerts and movies. We wish them good health and

    many good years at RiverWalk.

A wonderful new couple recentlyjoined the RiverWalk family. Visit-

ing and talking to Shirley andDonald Feldstein was such a fun

    experience for me.

Shirley was born in the Flatbush

section of Brooklyn, where her fa-

ther was the Rabbi of Talmud To-rah of Flatbush on Avenue J. She

grew up with one older brother and

two younger sisters. Shirley wentto school at the Yeshiva of Flat-

    bush, Brooklyn College and Co-

lumbia School of Social Work. Hereducation led her to a fulfilling ca-

reer as a social worker and psycho

therapist. Shirley would go on towork as a social worker with

    groups and senior citizens, doing

    counseling and therapy.

Shirley was on line registeringfor a graduate course at Columbia

    University when she met Donald.

They fell madly in love and were

    married in 1954.

    Donald was born in Yorkville,

NY. His father owned a shoe fac-tory and after the Depression he

    became a custom peddler. Donald

grew up with one sister, Lorelle, who now lives in Israel. He at-

    tended Elementary School PS 6,

    Stuyvesant High School and

Hunter College. He also received aBA from City College and later a

Doctorate in Social Work from Co-

    lumbia University.
