Steppin’ Out [ 2013 ]

www.abeatrecords.com/catdetail.asp?IDprod=%20159

‘Our interest’s on the dangerous edge of things’: this phrase by

the British novelist Graham Green came to mind to a listener of this

trio, after hearing them play for the first time. It expresses the sense of vertigo that comes from listening to music that does not cling

to old, outworn paths but instead reaches out to find a common, profoundly meaningful sound.

The Roberto Olzer Trio was created in the summer of 2011.

They recorded their first CD Steppin’ Out for the Italian label

Abeat Records in 2013.

This ultra-refined recording is a clear example of how to makequality music of a disarming formal simplicity with a clear preference

for the ‘beautiful’, devoid of unnecessary stylistic ornamentation

or exaggerated virtuosity.

The Moon and The Bonfires[ 2015 ]

ateliersawano.com

The second CD of the Roberto Olzer Trio, The Moon and the Bonfires was the next stage of a musical voyage to distant shores, commissioned by the Japanese label Atelier Sawano,

The trio had already staged performances in Switzerland (Moods

in Zurich, Villa Straeuli in Winterthur, RSI in Lugano) as well as several locations in Italy when their first CD, Steppin’ Out was

awarded best CD of 2013 for instrumental jazz by the Japanese

magazine HYHIO (Jazz Critique Magazine). This event opened new possibilities for the trio.

The CD contract with the Atelier Sawano was a direct consequence of their successful tour to Japan in June 2015 where the group

played at clubs and concert halls in Osaka, Nara, Kobe and

Tokyo. Since then, two more tours have taken place in the

autumn and winter of 2016, with performances in Osaka, Tokyo,

Yokohama, Kanazawe and Hyogo.

The trio’s third CD Dreamsville for the Atelier Sawano label was

issued in November 2016. It follows their favoured, stylistic path,

alternating original compositions with new interpretations from the

classical and romantic eras, as well as incursions into the world of

international pop.

This CD was awarded the title of best instrumental Jazz CD of 2016 by the HYHIO (Jazz Critique Magazine) of Japan.

Another trio CD as well as a piano solo CD with the title Torre del Lago will appear in the autumn of 2017, both commissioned by

Floatin’In [ 2017 ]

www.abeatrecords.com/catdetail.asp?IDprod=262

In 2016 the trio began to explore new musical possibilities with the collaboration of the trumpeter Fulvio Sigurtà. The result is the CD Floatin’ In for the label Abeat Records, issued in the Spring of 2017

One could hardly meet a better musician in harmony with

The Roberto Olzer Trio aesthetics than Fulvio Sigurtà.

His rich imagination, technical mastery and musical awareness add a fourth dimension to the language the trio has been developing

for several years now. Fulvio’s contribution adds a smile, a twinkle

of irony and a certain airiness to the Trio’s typical lyricism.
