Classic Rock = Igneous Rock• Igneous rock is like classic rock because it is

formed from volcanic activity, the classic way of forming rock.

• Igneous rock is either:– Intrusive – formed from magma cooled

underground– Extrusive – formed from volcanic activity

• Metamorphic Rock = Hard Rock

• Metamorphic rock is like hard rock because it is layered / changed over time through heat and pressure

• Metamorphic rocks are categorized as:– Foliated = banded (e.g. slate)– Nonfoliated = non-banded (e.g. marble)
