I REFUSE• Sometimes II just want to close my eyesAnd act like everyone's alrightWhen I know they're not

This world needs GodBut it's easier to stand and watchI could say a prayer and just move onLike nothing's wrong

But I refuse'Cause I don't want to live like I don't careI don't want to say another empty prayerOh, I refuse

To sit around and wait for someone elseTo do what God has called me to do myselfOh, I could chooseNot to move but I refuse

I can hear the least of theseCrying out so desperatelyAnd I know we are the hands and feetOf You, oh God

So, if You say moveIt's time for me to follow throughAnd do what I was made to doShow them who You are

'Cause I don't want to live like I don't careI don't want to say another empty prayerOh, I refuse

Refuse • We choose this song because its is

talking about refusing something. Just like little man refuses to pick up the book that he threw on the ground. He fought for what he believes in that it was not right for it to be classified as negro or white. This happens on page 24.

SYMBOL

Logan Land

Page 7: ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY by Mildred Taylor BY: JEKAIRA

This land is your land this land is my land

• This land is your land This land is my landFrom California to the New York island; From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and Me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway, I saw above me that endless skyway: I saw below me that golden valley: This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts; And all around me a voice was sounding: This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling, And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling, As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting: This land was made for you and me.

Page 8: ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY by Mildred Taylor BY: JEKAIRA

This your land is your land

• We choose this one because its is talking about land and the Logan love their land. They did not want to give up there land.

I am going to get you one way or another

• This is a fun song and to me it goes perfectly with this event when the kids got revenge on the white kids school bus. So if you get it they got revenge one way or another. This also goes with the theme because they knew what the white kids did was wrong so they fought back.

Fightin’ side of me• Fightin' Side Of Me: Merle Haggard.

Written by Merle Haggard.( Tree Publishing Company.)From "Songs I'll Always Sing", 1976, Capitol Records.I hear people talkin' bad,About the way we have to live here in this country,Harpin' on the wars we fight,An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,An' standin' up for things they believe in.When they're runnin' down my country, man,They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.Runnin' down the way of life,Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.If you don't love it, leave it:Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.If you're runnin' down my country, man,You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.I read about some squirrely guy,Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.An' I wonder just how long,The rest of us can count on bein' free. They love our milk an' honey,But they preach about some other way of livin'.When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,

Fighting side of me

• We choose this song because it talks about him fighting for what he believes in and Mr. Morrison got fired and the white men did not

Page 15: ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY by Mildred Taylor BY: JEKAIRA

Where is the love• People killin', people dyin'

Children hurt and you hear them cryin'Can you practice what you preachAnd would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help usSend some guidance from above'Cause people got me, got me questionin'Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)?Where is the love (The love)?Where is the love (The love)?Where is the love (The love)?Where is the love (The love)?Where is the love (The love)?Where is the love, the love, the love?

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulderAs I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colderMost of us only care about money makin'Selfishness got us followin' the wrong direction

Wrong information always shown by the mediaNegative images is the main criteriaInfecting the young minds faster than bacteriaKids wanna act like what they see in the cinema

Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanityWhatever happened to the fairness and equalityInstead of spreading love we're spreading animosityLack of understanding, leading us away from unity

That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' underThat's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' downThere's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' underGotta keep my faith alive 'til love is foundNow ask yourself

Where is the love?Where is the love?Where is the love?Where is the love?

Father, Father, Father, help usSend some guidance from above'Cause people got me, got me questionin'Where is the love?

Where is the love

• We choose this song because Mr. Barnett was unfair to Cassie because she was black. This song goes perfectly with this event and he did not show love to black.

Page 17: ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY by Mildred Taylor BY: JEKAIRA

I will stand up for myself

• Oh, I'll stand up for myself, and what I believe in,I'll stand up for myself, and for my rights, too.Yes, I'll stand up for myself, and what I believe in,and I'll do it in a way that respects your rights, too.DO-do-DO-do-DO-do-do-DO!

I can take charge of my life; that's one thing I believe in,I can take charge of my life; it's my right to do.I will take charge of my life---and I'll be glad that I did it!It's not only my right, it's my responsibility, too.DO-do-DO-do-DO-do-do-DO!

You can take charge of your life, and stand up for what you believe in,You can take charge of your life; it's your right to do.You can take charge of your life---you'll be glad that you did it.It's not only your right; it's your responsibility, too.DO-do-DO-do-DO-do-do-DO!

So...We'll stand up for ourselves and what we believe in,We'll stand up for ourselves and for our rights, too.Yes, we'll stand up for ourselves and what we believe in,and we'll do it in a way that respects others' rights, too.DO-do-DO-do-DO-do-do-DO!

I will stand up for myselfWe choose this song because Cassie didn’t apologize to Lillian Jean after they bumped in to each other so this song is saying Cassie knew it was not her fault so was not going to apologize just cause she is white

Blame It By Jamie Foxx

• This song goes along with what T.J. did to Stacey. He let Stacey get beat by mama when it was T.J. who had the cheat sheet. This song says the words “blame it”. That is exactly what T.J. did to Stacey. In this song it also gives examples on what he blames stuff on. Like drinking and stuff. T.G just wanted someone to blame it on.

SECRETS BY ONE REPBLIC • I need another story

Something to get off my chestMy life gets kinda boringNeed something that I can confessTil' all my sleeves are stained redFrom all the truth that I've saidCome by it honestly I swearThought you saw me wink, noI've been on the brink, so

Tell me what you want to hearSomething that will light those earsSick of all the insincereI'm gonna give all my secrets awayThis time, don't need another perfect lieDon't care if critics ever jump in lineI'm gonna give all my secrets away

•Tell me what you want to hearSomething that are like those yearsSick of all the insincereI'm goanna give all my secrets awayThis time, don't need another perfect lieDon't care if critics never jump in lineI'm goanna give all my secrets away

•So tell me what you want to hearSomething that'll light those earsSick of all the insincereI'm goanna give all my secrets awayThis time, don't need another perfect lieDon't care if critics never jump in lineI'm goanna give all my secrets away

SECRETS

• This song goes perfectly with the kids. Stacey, Cassie, little man, and Christopher John did. The hid that there the ones did that did that to the school bus. It says “gonna give all my secrets away. Well eventually the secret will come out. It also says “don’t need another perfect lie”. So this song to me is perfect with this event.

SAY IT LOUD AND PROUD

Uh, with your bad self Say it louder (I got a mouth) Say it louder (I got a mouth)

• I'm black and I'm proud Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud, one more time Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud, huh

I've worked on jobs with my feet and my hands But all the work I did was for the other man And now we demands a chance To do things for ourselves we tired of beating our heads against the wall And working for someone else

Now we demand a chance to do things for ourselves We tired of beating our heads against the wall And working for someone else A look adhere, One thing more I got to say right here Now, we're people like the birds and the bees We rather die on our feet, Than keep living on our knees

Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud, hu Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud, hu Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud, Lord'a Lord'a Lord'a Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud, ooooh

Page 24: ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY by Mildred Taylor BY: JEKAIRA

SAY IT LOUD AND PROUD

• This song is really good when Cassie bumps into Lillian Jean and made her apologize to her. This song says “I am black and proud”. Cassie should of said that to Lillian Jean. Lillian Jean is white so Cassie gets treated differently then whites.
