In 1931, the porcelain factory Arzberg launched a range of tableware that was to revolutionise the world of ne china: Form 1382 . Dr. Hermann Gretsch’s design made history. It must be said that when Arzberg launched the Original in 1931, the word design did not exist either as a term or a concept. Yet his design became the template for Arzberg’s philosophy of good design and sealed Arzberg’s reputation as a design brand. To this day, its simple and practical form is still captivating. Form 1382 is a consummate marriage of aesthetics and function, something good which is immune to the changing moods of fashion , as it

was described back in 1931.

1931 brachte die Porzellanfabrik Arzberg ein Service auf den Markt, das die Porzellanwelt revolutionieren sollte. Die „Form 1382“. Dr. Hermann Gretschs Form hat Geschichte gemacht. Als Arzberg 1931 „das Original“ vorstellte, existierte Design weder als Wort noch als Begriff. Und doch begründete dieser Entwurf die Arzberg-Philosophie der „guten Form“ und den Ruf Arzbergs als Designmarke. Bis heute hat die schlichte und zweckmäßigeForm nichts von ihrer Faszination verloren. „Form 1382” ist eine vollendete Komposition von Ästhetik und Funktion, „etwas Gutes, das über den Wechsel der Moden erhaben ist”, wie sie schon 1931 beschrieben

wurde.

Nel 1931 Arzberg ha presentato un servizio di porcellana che avrebbe rivoluzionato il mondo della ne china: “Form 13 ”. Opera di design del Dr. ermann Gretsch, “Form 13 ” ha segnato la storia. All’epoca del lancio sul mercato della nuova linea, il termine “design” ancora non esisteva, nemmeno come concetto. Il Dr. Gretsch ha inaugurato così la ricerca del “buon design” dando origine ad un nuovo modello di loso a aziendale che, ancora oggi connota il marchio. Con la sua linea semplice e funzionale, “Form 13 ” non ha perso nulla del suo fascino originario. E’ un binomio perfetto di estetica e funzionalità, “qualcosa di buono che rimane

invariato, al di là delle mode che cambiano”, come già descritto nel 1931.

His name is synonymous with lifestyle design. Leading international brands like Hugo Boss, Strenesse, Grohe and Jil Sander all show the hand of Prof. h. c. Peter Schmidt. He has also left his mark of excellence on scenery and costume design, for example in John Neumeier’s ballet Death in Venice . It is from this wealth of inspiration and experience that Prof. h. c. Peter

Schmidt’s 200 design for Arzberg was born. The circle and the square are characteristic and indeed distinctive of the design. The interplay of the two elements makes for both contrast and

harmony. Sein Name steht für die Gestaltung von Lebensstilen. Internationale Leitmarken wie Hugo Boss, Strenesse, Grohe und Jil Sander tragen die Handschrift Prof. h. c. Peter Schmidts. Seinem hohen Anspruch entsprechen auch Bühnen- und Kostümausstattungen, u.a. für John Neumeiers Ballett „Tod in Venedig“. Aus dieser Fülle von Anregungen und Erfahrungen ist die Arzberg-Form “2006 Peter Schmidt“ entstanden. Kreis und Quadrat bestimmen den Entwurf, machen die Form unverwechselbar. Im Zusammenspiel sorgen beide Gestaltungselemente für Spannung und

Harmonie.

Established in 1879 as a porcelain painting company, Rosenthal now offers over 130 years of experience in porcelain decoration. The requirements of colours and noble metal are extreme: during the decorating ring at over 1.200° C the glaze starts to melt and the decoration sinks into it to get durable.

Numerous opportunities for decoration: fully decorated or only on the rim, on round or uncommon shapes, plain coloured or in a composition of over 25 colours, with or without noble metal. For creating an individual decoration an experienced team of designers is available.
