The authorMichel Quint was born in 1949. He has published twenty works. He received the Prize for crime fiction in 1989. In our Strange Gardens was turned into a film in 2003 by Jean Becker.

The novel

SummaryThe story is about a little boy who is ashamed of his father because he is both a teacher and a clown. His uncle will soon explain to him why his father has become a clown after being a resistance fighter in WWII. At the end he understands why his father does that and he changes his shame into pride.

CharactersThe two main characters are first the father André, a teacher who acts the clown in his free time and his son who hates clowns. Gaston, the young boy’s uncle and his wife Nicole are key characters to understand the plot. Later, when he discovers the truth, the son becomes proud of his father.

Our opinionIt is a very interesting book, very easy to read and it has got 60 pages only. There is suspense until the end. Moreover, it is based on a true story which is very moving.
