Additional AIS messages (Agenda Item 5)

• No ASM AIS messages in use at the moment

• Msg #17 (DGPS & Glonass correction) is been broadcasting

• AIS AtoN (Msg #21 and probably Msg #6) & Virtual AIS to be implemented in 2013

• VTS in Gulf of Finland utilizes data from 6 automatic hydro-meteo stations but this data are not broadcasted via AIS.

• AIS Coastal Network and VTS are ready to provide Virtual AIS and process AIS AtoN Msg #21

• Use of AIS AtoN Msg #6 (UK GLA format ?) to be considered

Page 10: Russia: AIS Network in Baltic Sea - Status and Perspectives Documents... · Russia: E-Navigation initiatives (Agenda Item 5) • AIS Network and VTMIS integration (incl. databases)

Additional AIS messages (Agenda Item 5)

Automatic transmission of addressed AIS text messages (Msg #12) with meteo info is used for vessels entering Ladoga lake

Page 11: Russia: AIS Network in Baltic Sea - Status and Perspectives Documents... · Russia: E-Navigation initiatives (Agenda Item 5) • AIS Network and VTMIS integration (incl. databases)

Russia: E-Navigation initiatives (Agenda Item 5)

• AIS Network and VTMIS integration (incl. databases)

• Differential GNSS corrections via Msg #17 • Microwave links between VTS sites has been

upgraded up to 155 Mb/s to be ready for new E-Nav demands

• Dedicated Wi-Max system in operation – 10 BS: Petrodvorets, Ust-Luga, Vyborg, Vyssotsk, Primorsk, etc.

• Wi-Max is used for ENC corrections and Ice charts services for icebreakers

• Data security system for VTMIS data is established

• Icebracker’s AIS and ECS (NS4000) are ready to handle route planning info (Msg #8, FI=27) in according to IMO Circ. 289

• Preparation for SAT-AIS service in progress (1st Russian AIS-SAT to be launched at 2014)

Definition of AIS coverage (Agenda Item 6)

• BS AIS coverage is calculated on design stage

• Real coverage is checked during VTS certification sea trials after commissioning

• Ship density (hence VDL load) in Russian waters is relatively low

• Efficien Sea experience will be very appreciated

• Gulf of Finland –April 2013

Conclusions: • VDL load in Russian waters increased but not significantly • No collisions have been observed until now • It could be considered to advice classification societies to check whether onboard AIS

stations process Msg #17 or not. Application of Msg 17 by internal GNSS receiver is mandatory according to IEC 61993-2 Ed. 2.0 (i.6.2.2)
