Russia is very large in size. It covers more that 17 million square kilometres. It is the largest country in the

world. Russia stretches across both Europe and Asia. The population of Russia is about 150 million people.

The country washed by the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Arctic Ocean.

And our country washed by Baltic Sea, Black Sea, White Sea and others. There are 12 seas wash

Russia is very rich in mineral resources, such as gold, oil and gas.

Moscow is the capital of Russia. It was founded by Prince Yury Dolgoruky in 1147. The population of Moscow is

Moscow is the industrial, cultural and political centre of the country. It is the seat of the Russian Government.

The oldest theatre of opera and ballet in our country is the Bolshoi Theatre. The best ballet performances and

Russian and foreign operas are performed in this theatre.

The Moscow State University is well known in Russia. It was founded by M. V. Lomonosov in 18th century and

now bears his name. The university is so high that one can see it from different parts of the city.

of the best in the

world. It connects

The heart of Moscow is the Kremlin. It is an outstanding monument of Russian history and culture. It’s walls are 2

kilometres in length and have 20 towers.

At the foot of the Bell-Tower

of Ivan the Great there is Tzar-Bell and

the Tzar-Cannon. The

Tzar-Bell weighs 200

tons. It is the largest bell in

the world.

The Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow is one of the world’s richest museums, a treasure-house of the

finest works of Russian art. This collection was founded by Pavel Tretyakov.

In 1892 Pavel Tretyakov donated his picture Gallery to the city of Moscow together with the building in which it was housed. The famous paintings of many outstanding

Russian artists are collected in the Tretyakov Gallery.

One of the most beautiful cities in Russia and in the world is St. Petersburg. It was founded by Peter the Great in 1703. St. Petersburg was the capital of Russia from 1712 till 1918. The city is situated on the Neva River. The

population is about 5 million people.

Petersburg is a big cultural center of Russia. It is famous for old architectural monuments and

museums.

artistic museum in Russia. It occupies

the Winter Palace and three other buildings.
