The Golden Horse Casino was a revamp of an old existing casino in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. To save on the client’s budget, the designers retained the existing ceilings and bulkheads, and updated the look with a more vibrant contemporary colour scheme. In addition, they added gold fabric drapes to the oval bulkheads, painted the existing domes in gold leaf and introduced crystal chandeliers into the domes. The fake rock façade walls were replaced with a more sleek straight-line style and cherry pink was introduced to the metallic round columns, onto the main casino floor. All shop fitting was done exclusively by local Italian shop fitters. The race horse concept was introduced by means of horse photography on back -illuminated graphics. An exclusive designated Real Visions senior graphic designer was responsible for all the graphics, carpets and signage designs. The newly refurbished environment was created to bring a fun and uplifting ambiance to both the public and staff alike. Under the supervision of senior architects, Real Vision Interiors designers, quantity surveyors, engineers, procurement agents and project managers, the entire project took roughly 15 months to complete and cost approximately US$ 9, 375, 000.00

The 2 bars on the main gaming floor were specially designed to meet the client’s strict functionality requirements. The front fascias were made up of white Perspex with stainless steel filigree work and green neon to the top and bottom of the fascias. The counter tops were made up of cherry pink/red Surrino, as well as cherry pink granite tops by Technistone. To prevent breakages by the general public, bar stools were specifically custom manufactured in both lightweight and sturdy metals. Local shop fitters in Kwa-Zulu Natal completed the shop fitting.

The Diamond Lounge was exclusively designed to cater for the Golden Horse Casino’s female clientele who wish to have a sophisticated night out. It utilises very feminine colours and provides large upright chairs in lush velvets to cater for long comfortable nights and listening to live music. The bar was especially challenging as it was created in a circular shape, with curved white Perspex and s/steel filigree fascias all around. The curved glass and chrome glass hanging racks were made using imported fittings from Germany, and Italian shop fitters in South Africa were responsible for the entire shop fitting. A world class DJ deck was also installed.

The Golden Horse Casino Hotel needed a revamp to cater for the high-end clientele. To save costs, the designers started by evaluating which of the furniture could be retained and reupholstered. The headboards, skirtings, dados, cupboard doors, dressing table chairs and sofas could all be kept and revamped. The selected materials for the furniture were more contemporary, but hard wearing in order to allow another 5 to 7 years of wear and tear. Purples, cerise pinks and silver were introduced into the suites, to give the rooms over all a more contemporary look and feel. Chrome and glass were placed into the Presidential Suite, along with extra high king sized beds. Newly shop fitted cabinets with granite tops were placed in the dining room area, as well as a new cabinet specially adapted to house two convenient glass display fridges.

Real Visions Interiors was commissioned to design a new interior for Queens Casino in the Eastern Cape, in just under 5 months. Inspired by the railway Industrial Revolution and the movie ‘The Wild Wild West’, the décor was based around a contemporary look and the opulence of Victorian styling. Deep red velvets and purple neon were introduced into the casino. The sports bar had a “funkier” look with brass and black granite. Timber floors and leather bar stools added warmth. Outside the casino entrance an antique steam train was placed, totally refurbished to its former glory.

Goldfields CasinoThis small Welkom casino wanted a superior design that would last the next 10 years in style and practicality. The client was partial to the interiors of The Wyn Casino in Las Vegas, and wanted an original style, but with the same feel. Local African women were commissioned to craft large Chinese hanging lanterns for the walkways, using imported Chinese silks and local African beadwork. Large colourful graphics of oversized flora and fauna were also framed in metallic silver frames. The Sports Bar walls were clad in a fake orange ostrich leather and the casino walls clad in a flocked velvet wallpaper. The wallpapers along the walkways were imported from France.

The Sports Bar is wonderfully sophisticated with brass material cladding and large studs to emulate the railway theme. Black granite tops and back bar units illuminate the bottles with Perspex and coloured light. A timber stage behind the bar was installed for live entertainers, and deep purple leather banquet seats allow sports enthusiasts to watch the games, on the large drop down screen in comfort. The timber floors and yellow ochre leather bar stools add much needed warmth and make this a great party venue. Italian shop fitters in Kwa-Zulu Natal completed the entire shop fitting.

In August 2012, the resort owner at The Thekkady Wild Corridor Resort, an Eco Tourism destination in Kerala, South of India, approached Real Visions Interiors to work on a hotel revamp. Because the resort attracts not only local Indian visitors, but also tourists from across the globe, particularly Britain, America, Europe, South Africa and Arabia, the resort felt an upgrade to modern, international standards was highly needed. Real Visions set about designing the Super Deluxe and Deluxe rooms, as well as the Royal Villas and Romantic Villas, with the restaurant, pool deck, main lobby and conference areas still to follow.

The resort’s Super Deluxe Room, Romantic Villa and Royal Villa will all receive makeovers in order to bring them up to international standards. The bathrooms will be constructed in a very contemporary style, with a combination of wood finishes and hand-painted tiles providing a wonderful earthy finish.

All will have concealed cisterns. The lounge areas will be updated with plasma TVs, concealed under bar fridges and more luxurious finishes. When it comes to the bedrooms, the region’s traditional Indian craftsmen will be involved in the carving of the king siz beds, pedestals, chairs and any other wooden furniture requirements. American walnut laminate floors, custom-made carpets and rich, luxurious materials will all highlight the areas natural forest surroundings. The main door to the Romantic Villas will be relocated to allow for the installation of tall glass windows, to give a more open view of the forest. The Royal Villas will receive a new layout, that will include 2 bedrooms with full en-suite bathrooms and a central open plan lounging and entertainment area, to cater for families or 2 couples.

When The Gaborone Sun desperately needed a revamp, the team worked around the Colonial-African style that is loved by both local and international visitors. The restaurant and pool terrace were opened up, and an outside bar area with large cane loungers was added. Colonial style cushions and timber ceiling fans tied the look together. 3 large gazebos were added outside to facilitate additional outdoor entertaining. The restaurant was overhauled and a large upgraded buffet counter was constructed and installed, to meet international standards. In the conference area, 3 new halls were constructed with timber clad full height sliding doors to be used as dividers. Carpets were specially manufactured with monkeys in the border design, to add a hint of lightheartedness. A new bar and 4 boardrooms received a complete new interior overhaul. In terms of artwork for the conference area, famous African artists were commissioned to do a series of oil paintings. Black and white photography depicting Botswana’s history during Colonial enslavement, were sourced to remind the Botswana people of their ancestor’s past. Samantha Esra was lead designer at the time of this project, whilst being employed by Northpoint Architects. Together with the Northpoint team they created this unique African Colonial-mix design.

Dekko Heights and Scarlet Park An established developer in Midrand, South Africa, commissioned Real Visions Interiors to design the interiors for two of his new residential projects . Working closely with the CEO, professional architect and procurement head, the designers set about creating striking new domestic environments. Aimed at the middle income, young professional market, the client wanted a contemporary modern feel with glossy kitchen trends and large mat porcelain tiles. To keep the desired clean sleek look of each unit, white tiles and modern-styled shower fittings were the client’s choice for the bathrooms, plus the latest trendy furniture for the bedrooms and lounge areas.Colourful artwork and thick loose carpets were carefully selected, to add an element of warmth to the units, whilst still in-keeping with the overall sophistication. In addition, warm winter fabrics were introduced for the season, to make the units more appealing to the general South African market. Once completed, the designs enabled the developer to sell out one third of all his units, within just four weeks of launching his sales.

Sun International owned Zimbali Resort in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, required a brand new interior design for their luxurious chalets. The units stand as semi-detached houses within the region’s famous natural wildlife area and on the boarder of their prestigious golf course. The land falling under South Africa’s natural environmental protection laws required much care to be taken, so as not to disturb the local wildlife and vegetation during construction. A fibre glass sand sculpture was commissioned and created for the reception area, depicting African figures moving between wild life and local flora. The chalets, which were designed mainly for couples, feature private bathrooms at the back, with oval shaped stone baths and specially commissioned brass taps and spouts. Indoor and outdoor showers were also installed. Should couples wish to bring children with them to the chalets, the banquet dining seats were specially designed to double up as beds, each with its own single mattress. All the carpets and wall hangings were specially hand crafted and woven in India, from the Varanasi region North of India, and are identical per chalet. The Internet connections for each suite’s desk were secretly and conveniently hidden inside an old fashioned styled writing desk, with old style brass switches to compliment the whole look.
