Those thumbnails in the newsletter's Photo Album of Woodworking in America 2013 might have been a wee bit wee. I've enlarged and added a few to them here. Not only was WIA busy but rich in information and fun. I was truly impressed that so many woodworking bloggers dropped everything to make their way to WIA. It seemed to me that bloggers such as Matt Vanderlist-Matt's Basement Workshop -and Marc Spagnuolo-The Wood Whisperer - dropped by every booth, then posted up-beat blog entries about their experiences. I've found these bloggers – to a person – both enthusiastic and kind. Toolmakers, especially what I call the Proud & Unplugged – the small, indie toolmakers – and woodworkers are birds of a feather, or perhaps they are a stamp to a letter. Bloggers make that very clear! Ron presents Speak, Hear, and See No Evil. You know them as the podcaster-bloggers from the Modern Woodworkers Association: Dyami Plotke, The Penultimate Woodshop; Tom Iovino, Tom's Workbench; and Sean Wisniewski, The Corner Workshop.

Chris Adkins, High Rock Woodworking, upstairs near the conference rooms with the largest wooden handplane in the world (read with an echo sound)! This plane belongs to Roy Underhill; it's Roy's woodworker photo-op plane and secret hootch holder.

Here's Dyami Plotke, The Penultimate Woodshop, mouth still shut, yet unfettered by Hear and See No Evil, showroom floor all about. That means woodworking tools everywhere as far as the eye can see!

Woodcraft's Ben Bice is obviously fashion forward and a man of impeccable taste. Ben works really hard as a product rep and loves the relaxation he finds in his own shop at the lathe. We're glad he had some time to leave the Woodcraft booth and spend a moment at ours.

The Hock booth was located across from Sauer & Steiner's booth and kitty-corner to Daed Toolworks. Konrad Sauer and Don Williams, WIA's featured Conference Speaker visiting the Daed Toolworks booth. It was such a convivial time!

Joel Moskowitz of Tools for Working Wood & Thomas Lie-Nielson of Lie-Nielsen Toolworks talk shop at the Tools for Working Wood & Gramercy Tools booth.

My fist-bump moment with Don Williams! Here I am showing off my first ever dovetails at the Daed Toolworks booth with Raney Nelson, Konrad Sauer and Don. In truth Mike Siemsen, the man behind the Handtool Olympics helped every step of the way with those dovetails. Mike has more patience than just about anyone I know!

Ron's conversing with Ejler Hjorth-Westh, a friend from College of the Redwoods here in Fort Bragg, CA. Ejler gave three very successful classes in chairs design, working with curves, and the complexities of commission work.

Ejler Hjorth-Westh as he truly is, a smiling farmboy, fine woodworker par excellence and teacher. Look for my interview with Ejler in our January newsletter.
