Every year, Sabah ICT Month is celebrated in November. One can expect varieties of

activities such as seminars, road shows, exhibition, competitions and a gala night as the grand

finale, happening from the first day to the end of November.

Sabah ICT Month 2012 marks its 6th

Anniversary this year.

This year, the theme is “Digitalizing Sabah: Creating the Wave 2.0”.

1. What is Sabah ICT Month?

Sabah began its ICT initiatives in a more aggressive manner with the launching of e-

Government System, Sabah.Net and the State Public Sector IT Master Plan on 23rd

September 1997. Since then, the journey has been progressing from strength to strength. In

this regard, Sabah ICT Month is held to commemorate Sabah’s ICT initiatives.

The Sabah ICT Month 2012 is under the auspices of the Ministry of Resource Development

and IT, with close co-operation, collaboration and join implementation with related and

relevant government and private organisations.

It is celebrated in the whole month of November every year.

4. What does this month-long celebration hope to accomplish?

The main objective of the Sabah ICT Month is to commemorate and recognise the ICT

initiatives undertaken by various stakeholders and ICT players in the state over the years. At

the same time, the event is also an avenue to:

Promote ICT as a key enabler for enhancing the State’s strategic competitiveness;

Boost the development of ICT as a strategic economic sector in support of the State’s

Halatuju Pembangunan; and

Enhance the contribution of the ICT industry to the economic development of the

State.

The State Government, through Kementerian Pembangunan Sumber dan

Kemajuan Teknologi Maklumat, has introduced the e-Desa programme since

2004. Each of the e-Desa centre is managed by an e-Desa Management

Committee comprising local community leaders. These leaders are

enthusiastic and committed to making the e-Desa centre in their respective

area a success. The persidangan is an avenue for all the e-Desa Management

committees to come & share best practices in operating the e-Desa.
