Speaker: Brian Holmes – MIIRSM, GradNZISM Company: Branch Manager, Wellington NZISM Timeslot: 1pm, 5.20pm

Brian will open the seminar with a welcome to the group and introduce the MC and afternoons events.

Speaker: Nathanael Sterling, Senior Project Manager – BCPEng, MIPENZ, PMP Company: Beca Timeslot: 2:15pm

Nathanael has 18 years of experience in civil infrastructure projects, initially working in a contractor organisation as a project manager in construction, then later working in Capital Works in local government and recently as a Consultant. Within Beca, Nathanael has been actively involved in Safety in Design committees, as a Health and Safety Representative and has facilitated a number of Safety in Design workshops. Based on site at the Mackays to Peka Peka Alliance he facilitated the Safety in Design Workshops and established the Safety in Design process for the design phase of the project.

Nathanael and an NZTA representative will be presenting on behalf of the MacKays to Peka Peka Alliance.

Speaker: Kirsty Johns – Associate, Water – BEng CEng MIChemE MIEAust Company: Beca Timeslot: 1:55pm

Kirsty has 15 years of engineering experience in the water sector and is the Australian Safety in Design Champion for Beca. Kirsty came to Australia from the UK 8 years ago, with experience in construction and consultancy, and in working under the UK Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations. She worked with others in Beca to establish a Safety in Design procedure to comply with the recently introduced Victorian regulatory requirements, rolling these out to cover all of Beca Australia. She developed training sessions to cover both introductions to Safety in Design, and how to facilitate a safety in design workshop, providing these trainings in Australia before working with the New Zealand business to add to and roll out the safety in design training with them. Kirsty has worked on safety in design on numerous projects including the Victorian Desalination Project and Melbourne Water’s STaPS alliance, along with projects in the airports, infrastructure, food and beverage and power sectors.

Kirsty will be talking about how Safety in Design legislation has impacted on work in Australia, giving some examples of lessons learnt and discussing specific projects.

Tania Hyde – Senior Roading Engineer – CEng MICE, CPEng MIPENZ Company: Beca Timeslot: 1:15pm, 2:35pm and 5:00pm

Tania has 13 years of civil engineering experience and is one of the lead Safety in Design Champions for Beca. She used her knowledge and experience of the UK Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations to facilitate the production of the Beca company Work Instruction and training modules. She also facilitated the production of the SCIRT Safety in Design strategy. She has worked with ACENZ and NZTA to produce a Minimum Standard Z Clause, guidance notes and training material. Tania has facilitated many Safety in Design workshops including MacKays to PEka Peka and the Upper Harbour Highway to Greville Improvements.

Kelly is part of a team currently immersed in giving effect to the Government’s decision to introduce a new legislative framework for workplace health and safety. She will be presenting on the proposed regulations under the proposed new Health and Safety at Work Act and will explain some of the content of the proposed regulations and what that may mean to the audience.
