I WILL GIVE YOU REST

Recently as a nation and as Catholics, we have a great deal. We have tried to maintain our lives during the sufferings and deaths of the world-wide Corona Virus pandemic. We have questioned our faith and its leaders with the priest scandals. We are seeing changes to our lives that we can-not control and this lack of control makes us weary, angry, and sometimes, helpless.
But we have hope. We have Jesus Christ. In today’s Gospel, He says, "Come to me . . . and I will give you rest. Learn from me . . . and you will find rest" (Matthew 11:28-29). Here is our hope. Jesus tells us I will give you rest. I will lift you up. I will feed you. I will pour out grace,
mercy, and forgiveness. Sit with me. Rest in me. Receive my teaching.
Historically, the Jewish people had burdens laid on them by their religious leaders. They were taught that to enter God's Kingdom, they needed to know not only the 613 Laws that were given to Moses, but also the many additional clarifications and exceptions to those laws. In addition, they were expected to observe every one of them.
Today, we don’t have the 613 laws to follow. Our burdens can usually be classified into two groups, moral burdens and physical burdens. Our moral burdens can be a burden of a lifetime or it could be the burden of a single, heated moment. They can include a multitude of sins; addictions, jealousies, racism, pride, and lust. Our physical burdens include illnesses and disabilities.
Realizing that we are burdened is a good start in making changes to those things we can change. The second step is to use the sacrament of Reconciliation. It can rid us of our burden of sin. However, to make it effective, we must come to Jesus through prayer. We must give Him some time in our day. It was in prayer that Jesus opened His heart to the Father, and the Father opened His heart to his Son. In this union, the Father gave Jesus the strength for His mission. If prayer was that important to Jesus, how much more important can it be for us?
Today’s Gospel tells us it's neither the wise, the learned, nor the busy who are closest to God. It's those who are like little children. And what do little children do to receive their parents’ love? Absolutely nothing. That's how God asks us to relate to Him—to receive His love, His wisdom, and His protection like a child.
Prayer is the most essential part of our Christian lives—and especially the prayer of the Eucharist. Like the love given to a child that is not based on anything the child has done, it's based on what Jesus has done for us. Through Him, we have access to the Father (Matthew 11:27). Because of His sacrifice, we can receive His body and blood at Communion and enter into true communion and true rela-tionship with Him and His Father.
When we discover this relationship, we find we don't need to worry about being good enough. When we take on the gentle yoke of Jesus, He leads us to His Father, and we find rest.
Saints before us have suffered like us and they responded to these words of Jesus.
St. Bernadette of Lourdes heard this Scripture and replied, “Jesus, I am tired— tired of plodding on the same treadmill every day, tired of working so hard to serve you and others, tired of yielding to temptation yet again. Thank you that I can rest in your mercy and forgiveness.”
St. Frances Cabrini answered Jesus’ offer this way, “Sorrow smolders in my heart, Jesus. Worry saps my strength. I want to follow you, but the obstacles discourage me. Thank you that I can lay my head and my anxieties on your breast. Strengthen me, Lord, as I rest in you today.”
Our own St. Margaret Mary Alacoque replied this way: “Jesus, sometimes I don’t trust your love. It is so easy for me to focus only on my sins and think that they are the only things that inflame your heart—inflame it to anger or condemnation. So, I come longing for relief from the sting of guilt, and to know your love more intimately.”
So let us come to the Lord in prayer with our burdens and let Him give us rest.

October 16 is the Feast Day of Our Patroness, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque
Born in the diocese of Autun, France, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque consecrated her heart, while yet a child, to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. In order to dedicate herself wholly to her Divine Spouse, The Saint joined
the Visitation Order of nuns at twenty-three years of age at Paray-le-Monial in Charleroi. She was subjected to many trials and sufferings, but she underwent
all for the love of Jesus. In 1675, she was chosen by God to reveal to the Christian World the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. St. Margaret and
St. Claude de la Colombiere, S.J., were the chief instrument of the Feast of the Sacred Heart. She died in 1690 and was canonized in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.
The Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary: 1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. 2. I will establish peace in their homes. 3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions. 4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death. 5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings. 6. Sinners will find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy. 7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection. 9. I will bless every place in which an image of my Heart is exposed and honored. 10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. 11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart. 12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all
those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

St. Margaret Mary and The Sacred Heart of Jesus
St Margaret Mary was a cheerful loving and fun little girl. A natural tomboy, she would romp through the wild woods with her older broth-ers playing games and exploring. She was loved by all.
When she was 4 years old, her mother had another baby boy named Jacques. To assist her mother, Madame Fautrieres, brought St Margaret Mary to her castle at Corcheval. For the next several years St Margaret Mary would return for extended visits with her loving godmother at the castle. At home the parish church was over a mile away, but the castle at Corcheval had its own chapel. St Margaret Mary would often visit this chapel and spend hours kneeling in front of the tabernacle on the stone floor, quietly thinking.
One day, without really understanding the full meaning, she suddenly said, “Oh my God, I consecrate to you my purity and I make you a vow that I shall never marry.”

The annual parish Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:00 pm in the church. This mass is for the parishioners and family members of parishioners who died in the past year.
This is a special time when the parish and family members come together to pray for the dead and
for the comfort of those they left behind. If you lost a family member, whether in this parish or not, please save this date and come celebrate that
remembrance. And if you have not recently had a death in your family, come join us in praying
for those who have lost someone.
Please call or stop by the parish office to register anyone you would like remembered at the Mass.
Due to social distancing requirements, please plan to arrive 20 minutes early (6:40 pm).
All attendees over the age of 2 must wear a mask.
Our speaker for October 23 will be Sean Dalton, Director of Parish Evangelization at Augustine Institute.
Sean will discuss what it means to “take hold of eternal life” and claim what is ours through Christ.
Christ did not come to be served but to serve, so how can men find tangible ways to enter into daily service?

Fall means football and “Undie Sunday.” The Social Outreach Ministry and the Youth Group have sup-ported our local PADS shelter by providing undies for the homeless for many years, and last year we also provided “undies” for the Vineyard in Elgin.
During these unsettling times it’s easy to forget some of our less fortunate neighbors, but it is exactly these times that our Lord calls us to respond to the cry of the poor. We need lots of new and packaged men’s and ladies’ undies and socks. Long underwear (both tops and bottoms) and warm socks are particularly needed. If you can, please provide new, packaged undies and socks for the homeless as winter ap-proaches. The Lord calls us all to help those in need and it is time for all of us to reach out.

T.A.R.G.E.T and B.U.L.L.F.R.O.G.S. Target and Bullfrogs are our main youth ministry events. Both events below have a “youth leading youth” format, where you will find eager high school-ers leading the other youth of our parish in scripture, deep faith discussion and plenty of fun activities. The high schoolers that lead these events have volunteered to help and joined our Adeste Youth Team, a group dedicated to planning and leading events to better the youth of our parish. Come by the Ministry Center to Room 1 for both events. TARGETS run on Mondays and are for any and all high schoolers. Our next Target will be on Monday, October 18 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. For Targets this year we will be engaging in some Bible study. So come by to see what verses we are reading. Hope to see you all there! BULLFROGS run on Wednesdays and are for any and all middle schoolers. Our next Bullfrogs will be on October 20 from 6:00-8:00pm. The theme this month is teamwork and friendship Hope to see you all there!

Please make blood donations a part of your routine. The majority of the US population is eligible to give blood, but only about 3% actually do. Whether you are vaccinated or not, you can still
give blood or platelets if you are feeling healthy and meet all the regular eligibility requirements.
If you cannot make this blood drive, please consider donating at the Vitalant Center in Crystal Lake. To make an appointment, call 877-25-VITAL (84825) or
go to www.vitalant.org. Please tell the staff that the donation is to be made for U202 which is the code for St. Margaret Mary Knights of Columbus.
To give blood you must be 17 years old or older and in good health and bring a photo ID. You can also give blood if you are age 16 with the written consent of a parent. Refreshments

Did you know we have a Lost and Found here at St. Margaret Mary? When things are left in the church, the lobby, or found in the parking lot,
people usually bring them to the office. The items are kept on the counter in the office for a while. If no one comes to claim them, we then move
them to a box that we keep in the storage closet.

Several years ago the Franciscan Adoption Project was introduced to the people of St. Margaret Mary. We help support the poor and orphaned children of Uganda
with material and educational assistance.
