Betsy Lundell, founder of Sarabande Academy of Riding, studied both horsemanship and dance in Spain- which is where her unique concept of horsemanship was born. She believes that, as in dance two people must build trust and understanding with one another, a rider and horse must apply that same practice. Betsy’s objective is for students to not only learn the traditional disciplines of riding, but go beyond that in teaching them the importance of developing positive communication techniques with their horse that result in an integrated, confident team. Betsy grew up riding horses on her family’s ranch in Southern Arizona. In her successful show career, she competed Huntseat at the National Level. Additionally, Betsy was head wrangler at a Wyoming ranch for four years, and trained therapy horses for Epona Equestrian for four years, as well as taught therapeutic riding classes for disabled children. She started Sarabande Academy of Riding in 2004. SARABANDE ACADEMY OF RIDING 3250 E. Sarabande is a riding academy with a unique focus on building a relationship between horse

and rider through hands-on horsemanship. Each student- whether age 5 or 65- takes care of their horse by completely tacking up before each lesson, and untacking and returning their

horse to its stall when they are done. The students are responsible for feeding, mucking

and basic horse care.

We believe that horses are not just animals to be ridden, but individuals that thrive with

abundant interaction and attention from the students.

At Sarabande, we create a safe environment for our students to learn and thrive by doing

and experiencing.

In addition to lessons, we offer several specialized camp opportunities throughout

the year, as well as multiple sessions of summer camp. See our website at

www.sarabandeacademy.com for camp dates and information.

The Sarabande program consists of five instruction levels- Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Although not mandatory,

students may participate in competitive horse shows at various skill levels.
