    A BRIEF HISTORYA COMMON GOOD

Combining efforts across Sarpy County to create a stronger unity for the area. This was the founda-tion for the idea of starting our county chamber. Twenty years later, we are still driven by this same goal.

For the past 20 years we have strived to create lasting partnerships with individual residents, businesses, nonprofits and other area chambers of commerce. Through this, we have been able to work together to create a stronger Sarpy County.

When the Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1996, Di Smalley, Papillion Chamber of Com-merce President, remembers local business leaders believing this would

be good for economic development prosperity. What she and the business leaders didnt know at that time was that they were laying the groundwork for a chamber that would aid the community in becoming the fastest growing county in the state.

From a small membership of a few local businesses to a fast-growing membership of more than 600, we strive in everything we do to continue to honor the goal of creating a stron-ger unity for our cities and county through cooperative efforts with our events, business partners, staff and countless volunteers. These efforts support our vision: Educate, Advocate and Lead.

    WELCOME TO SARPY COUNTY

Celebrating 20 years of chamber service to our community has been a magnificent journey. Looking backon our history as a chamber, we were founded by volunteers meeting once a month for a meal. At that time, we were the Papillion Chamber (founded in 1955). After joint collaboration across the county, this team of business professionals (volunteers) believed joining all five cities and the county would give us a larger voice and a more powerful presence.

We have now developed into a must live, work and play destination that has put us in the spotlight across the state and country. Bringing pride to not only the Sarpy Chamber and local businesses but also to all who live here. Offering the benefits and opportunities of a large city with a small town feel makes us unique and exceptional.

Sarpy County has been a place of growth for all types of industries and business sizes. With the foresight and planning from the cities and county, we have made our business community strong and attracted great growth residentially. It has been a careful balance. The recipe has worked and has potential to be sustained.

The Chamber staff and board of directors would like to give a big thank you to all the long- time supporting members, volunteers, city and county leaders who have been a part of the chamber and community success over the past 20 years. We look forward to our next 20 years.

Here, in the heart of the Great Plains, our City sits on rolling hills overlooking the Missouri River. Our citizens enjoy a lifestyle that blends the latest in entertainment and leisure activities with an old-time atmosphere of friendliness and welcome. Our economy is growing and encompasses both small businesses and large corpora-tions. Bellevue has a strong technology infrastructure that supports growth and opportunity and we want everybody to know that Bellevue is Open for Business.

Low unemployment, low cost of living, low utility rates, low crime, and great education systems including public schools and a nationally recognized university, are hallmarks of our city.

Bellevue also has more than 600 acres of parks, wooded and paved trails that stretch for miles, numerous golf courses and dozens of ball fields. Our city offers recreational activities for everyone.

Bellevue is also proud to be the home of Offutt Air Force Base and the entire Bellevue/Offutt Community is excited about the new Stratcom Project which will benefit the local economy and bring people from all over the country to experience Bellevues hospitality while protecting our freedom.

Our city provides a rare combination of a midwestern hospitality and modern living. COMMUNITIES OF SARPY COUNTY

To those of you who are considering our great community as a place to raise your family or establish your business, I want to offer a warm welcome from one of Nebraskas most rapidly growing areas.

Founded in 1886 and incorporated on July 10, 1889, Gretna began on 80 acres of land along the recently completed Burlington Northern Rail line, purchased from the Lincoln Land Company for $560. The communitys name was inspired by Scotlands Gretna Green, with many early settlers of the village coming from Scottish ancestry.

Gretna is nestled just off Interstate 80 along Highway 370 and Highway 6/31 located between two major metropolitan areas. The Platte and Elkhorn rivers are in close proxim-ity to the community along with Mahoney State Park, Schram State Park, Wildlife Safari Park and Platte River State Park, which af-ford Gretna residents easy access to outdoor activities. Gretna residents can truly enjoy a great quality of life. Gretna is proud of its parks and recreational fields, safe and beautiful neighborhoods, strong schools, and many local merchants. Gretnas downtown area helps to keep the communitys small town atmosphere alive.

The community is proud of the newly expanded Nebraska Crossing outlet mall. The mall has several name brand stores and dining options that continue to draw shoppers to the area. The city has seen residential and commer-cial development increase since Highway 370 was completed about three years ago.

On behalf of the City Council and Staff, we are glad that you are considering or have already chosen our community.

    Gretna Mayor Jim Timmerman

    COMMUNITIES OF SARPY COUNTY

Welcome to La VistaThis is an exciting time for Sarpy County. Our cities are

experiencing tremendous growth on many fronts and we have you, the business community, to thank.

As an active member of Sarpy County, you understand and appreciate the importance of community. As one of five distinct, unique cities in Sarpy County, thats what were in the business of doing building community and improving quality of life for our residents and without the business presence and participation that wouldnt be possible.

La Vista is a city better by design. We have experi-enced tremendous growth and expansion in our Southport area, attracting world-renowned companies and adding fantastic amenities such as our hotels and La Vista Confer-ence Center, Cabelas and Alamo Drafthouse. Costco is also currently under construction in this area, which will bring hundreds of jobs.

The future is bright for La Vista. In the past year we have announced the Nebraska Multisport Complex development near Southport East, which will host local, regional and national championship competitions in swimming, tennis and soccer.

Also recently announced is an exciting redevelopment project in our 84th Street corridor, which would create a downtown for La Vista. Located on the site of vacant retail property, City Centre is slated to be a mixed-use development with retail, entertainment and dining below both residential and office space. Paired with the citys transformation of La Vista Falls Golf Course into Civic Center Park, the 84th Street corridor will be a community destination.

Please visit our website, www.cityoflavista.org, for the most recent newsletter, more information about various city services as well as a list of events.

Thank you for making Sarpy County the home for your business.

Offutt Air Force BaseWelcome to Sarpy County, home of Offutt Air

Force Base and the Fightin Fifty-Fifth! Our wing enacts dominant intelligence, surveillance and recon-naissance, electronic attack, command and control, and base operating support capabilities around the world. We have proudly called Nebraska home for the past 50 years!

The 55th Wing is host to more than 50 partner units, including U.S. Strategic Command, 557th Weather Wing, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, and Heartland of America Band. The Offutt military community consists of more than 62,000 people, including civilians and contractors. We work with these units to support the Air Forces mission to Fly, Fight and Win in air, space and cyberspace.

Offutt Air Force Base was originally founded in 1890 as an Army post. It was named Fort Crook after General George Crook, an Army general who gained notoriety during the Civil War and the American Indian Wars. The first runway was built in 1921 and named Offutt Field after Lieutenant Jarvis Offutt, the first air casualty from Omaha during World War I. In August 1966, the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing moved from Forbes Air Force Base, Kansas, to Offutt Air Force Base.

We are blessed to serve in a community that supports its military members like nowhere else and it is one of our highest priorities to return the favor. The support you provide on a daily basis helps us do our mission, and I am grateful for it.

Thank you for everything you do to make us feel at home here at Offutt. You may see our Offutt families in the community, taking part in events or volunteering as a way to say thank you for the way you have embraced us. In return, we endeavor to continue accomplishing our important mission, just as we have for the past 25 continuous years in the Middle East.

We never take our relationship with you for granted, and we hope to make it even stronger in the future!

The venue plays hosts to a number of community events as well as perfor-mances by national acts. If you are a sports fan, you also must visit Werner Park for a Triple A baseball game with the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Be sure to stop by the Sump Memorial Library, Papillions public library, to receive your library card. The library is filled with resources for educa-tion, enrichment and entertainment for both children and adults.

Last, but certainly not least, Papillion is a great place to shop. Among other areas of our city, Downtown Papillion, Shadow Lake Towne Center, the Shoppes at Market Pointe and Midlands Place each have an array of unique offerings.

If you have any questions about our community or city services, feel free to call the Mayors Hotline at 402-827-1111. For more information, visit Papillion.org.

LEGACY PROJECTS OF PAST LEADERSHIP CLASSES

    LEADERSHIP SARPY

Legacy projects have a lasting benefit to the community. Here are a few examples.

Create a local central hub for those serving on area boards and commissions of various municipalities, including public school districts, across the county and for those wishing to serve on a board or commission to connect and learn more about each other.

Envisioning a Sarpy County Athletics Hall of Fame, this project aims to honor past talented athletes and inspire young athletes of today. Nominees must meet certain requirements and are chosen by a com-mittee of volunteers from throughout the countys athletic community.

Aiming to improve downtown Bellevue, this project will restore and improve the 17 benches and seven trash cans that line Mission Avenue in the Olde Towne district. These benches and cans were donated about 30 years ago and are in need of repairs. Restoring them will improve the aesthetics of the district and help to improve the image of the area as well.

The group respon-sible for this project seeks to create a Blos-som Festival on the grounds of the Prairie Queen Recreation Area. To enrich and celebrate the new park, trees will be planted to encourage wellness, education and arts, creating a sense of community pride.

    THE VOICE OF LOCAL BUSINESS

I love the family oriented communities. I was born and raised here, said Rick Kimball, Kimball Manage-ment, when asked why his company does business in Sarpy County. In response to the same question, Gene Pfhal, owner of Genes Auto & Truck Service Inc., said, Our business has been here for over 35 years and we love being in Sarpy County. It has a small town atmosphere and we love it.

Others gushed about the county, too. This is such a great place! I absolutely love it, said Julie Imgrund of Bellevue Travel. We would not move our business anywhere else.

We have been here for 39 years. It is our home, said Rick Haley, owner of Papillion Foreign Motors.

When asked about the benefits of being a Chamber member, Kimball noted, It has given us name recognition and continued community support.

Others noted the benefits of relationships created as a result of being active in the Chamber. Building relation-

ships with other members of the Sarpy Chamber helps promote our business to other members, said Richard Frank of Overhead Door Company.

The Chamber is a local organization that is the voice of local business. Plus, they are a good voice for our small towns, said Haley.

These long-term members say they are here to stay and intend to remain active in the Chamber. We are members who will continue to support the Chamber, Frank said. The Chamber has helped us connect with people and busi-nesses that we would not have been able to connect with otherwise. Having the Chambers support lets people and businesses in the community know we have their support and can be trusted!

The Chamber staff is very appreciative of its long-time and loyal member businesses.

    BRINGING THE BEST TOGETHER

Sarpy County is where our business is located, and has been since 1946. We like the environment and the small- town feel of the area. We have the advantages of a small town but are close to a large city.

We are involved in the Sarpy County Chamber because we believe in being active in the community we are serving. In fact, Kahler-Dolce Mortuary was the first business to join the Sarpy Chamber of Commerce when there was a push to form a single chamber to represent the county business community.

The Chambers formation brought the best of everybody together to improve things in our area and to grow more businesses as well as bring in new ones.

We believe in what the Chamber is doing in the promotion and support of the county area.

Going forward, we want to get more involved to continue to grow the Chamber and its member businesses.

    A 100-PERCENT BELIEVER

Roy Dinsdale and his brother Jack Dinsdale decided years ago that Sarpy County was a market they wanted to be in. They purchased Clark Bank (Bank of Papillion) in December 1966 and Gretna State Bank in April 1978. Pinnacle Bank has been family-owned since 1938 by the Dinsdale family. Today, Nebraska-based Pinnacle Bancorp Inc. is a $9.4 billion financial holding company operating 136 community banks in seven states including 61 locations in Nebraska and six locations in Sarpy County.

Pinnacle Bank continues to do business in Sarpy for the same reasons that Roy and Jack had back in 1966 and 1978. Sarpy continues to be one of the fastest-growing counties in Nebraska. Sarpys median household income and average household net worth exceed Nebraska averages. Sarpy County has A+ schools, leading- edge medical service providers, excellent employment opportunities and wholesome

Midwest values. Its a great place to raise a family!

As a financial institution, Pinnacle Bank will continue to be directly involved with Sarpy County along with its citizens and businesses. Its our home, so we choose to be involved with organizations such as the Chamber, local government, nonprofit organizations, charities, our churches, etc.

Being a member has given our officers and employees the opportunity to meet new people and create new business opportunities. The Sarpy Chamber has also provided leadership opportunities for many of our officers through their Leadership Sarpy Program and/or Sarpy Board positions. The Chamber also gives businesses like Pinnacle Bank the op-portunity to promote themselves in order to build trust and name recognition within the community.

Pinnacle Bank has been involved with the Sarpy Chamber from the beginning.

However, at one point I did question a few of my co-workers on the value of our Chamber membership. A day or so later, they presented me with a detailed list of businesses that were directly or indirectly related to the contacts, etc., that were made because of our membership with the Sarpy Chamber of Commerce. I am now a 100 percent believer that our Sarpy County Chamber membership and involvement is good for business and Pinnacle Bank.

Pinnacle Bank will continue our Sarpy Chamber involvement and support of the annual events, government connections, networking opportunities, professional groups, education and marketing oppor-tunities. We have also found Leadership Sarpy and Board participation to be very beneficial to our employees.

    Steve Zey, Pinnacle Bank

The University has always benefitted from the networking opportunities and good citizenship that our Chamber membership provides.

    HELP OUR NEIGHBORS

United Way of the Midlands has served the Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie county area for more than 93 years. We focus the efforts of many to help our neighbors stand strong by addressing basic needs, and fostering success in the classroom and the workplace.

Thanks to the individuals and organizations that provide their support, our community can work to reduce poverty and help our vulner-able neighbors achieve economic stability.

Even in a community as strong as Sarpy County, there are vulnerable individuals and families who struggle to keep food on the table and address

their other basic needs. There are children who need extra support to succeed in school and adults who are working to improve their employment skills so they can get a good job. With the help of many donors and volun-teers, people have a better chance to escape poverty.

United Way is grateful for the support many Sarpy County indi-viduals and organizations provide for programs that focus on our neighbors future strength. We look forward to continuing that work on behalf of all who live and work in our community.

Our organization is proud to be a part of the communitys human service network, and our membership in the Sarpy County Chamber helps

to strengthen the relationship between individuals, businesses and nonprofits.

Members of the Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce are focused on progress and have the communitys best interests at heart. United Way of the Midlands believes in supporting organizations that promote such community efforts.

United Way will continue to bring people and organizations together to create lasting, positive change for our home community. We appreciate the Chambers efforts to keep Sarpy Countys businesses and human service response strong.

    PERFECT COMBINATION

My husband, Mike Bartels, PT, and I had been living in Papillion for 14 years before making the decision to open our physical therapy practice. We felt the small com-munity environment and relative projected growth of the area was the perfect combination for a success-ful business to thrive. We are a health care business and we feel the Papillion community has put a lot of focus on wellness for its residents. We strongly support the Papillion Race Series, engage in various programs with the Papillion-La Vista

Community Schools to education children about physical therapy and health care, and serve on the P-L Strategic Planning Committee and Superintendents Business advisory committee.

The Sarpy Chamber provided support with our grand opening celebration. Becoming an Ambassador enabled me to network and meet other community business owners. They have provided me with valuable contacts within the community. Beth Bartels, PT, Owner, EDGE Physical Therapy

TD2 is and has been a long-standing Sarpy Chamber member. Membership in the Chamber is important to us as responsible corporate citizens. We see our role as civil environmen-tal, geotechnical, and structural engineers and land surveyors as a resource and a partner in the countys development. TD2 has maintained a presence in Sarpy County and its communities for decades. Many of our employees and principals live here and their children have grown up here.

Two communities stand out. TD2 has had a major role and influence in the development and growth of La Vista and Papillion. TD2 served in the role of city engineer for La Vista from 1967 to 2010 and for Papillion from

1975 to 2011. These relationships began in the 1960s when La Vista was called a village and Papillion had dirt roads. Today, these communities have grown to be able to sustain hiring their own city engineers, both of whom are former TD2 employees. It has been one of our greatest honors to be part of the legacy of these growing communities.

2017 marks TD2s 50th anniversary. Over these decades, Sarpy County has experienced growth in population, jobs, income, and acclaim. Your success has also been ours. Douglas S. Dreessen, P.E., Thompson, Dreessen & Dorner Inc.
