•The female will lay one egg every three days, but only when there is about 9 hours daylight. When the days get longer she stops laying.•The dark green eggs weigh about 500-700 grams•It is the male who collects the eggs in one spot by rolling them along the ground. He covers them until he has 7-10 eggs. • The male will sit on the eggs until they hatch. It will take 54-60 days. He does not eat and hardly drinks while on the eggs.•The male will look after the emu chicks until they are about one year old.•Emus live up to 25 years.
