Admissiono Complete the undergraduate application for admission. You may complete the paper application or apply online at www.missouristate.edu/apply/. All students must be admitted to the University before being considered for financial aid and scholarships.

o Send your completed application along with the nonrefundable $35 application fee (if you are a first-time Missouri State student) to the address indicated on the application.

o Request that your official academic transcripts and ACT or SAT scores be sent to the Missouri State Office of Admissions. To be official, transcripts must be sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the high school and colleges that you have attended.

More than 17,800 students annually receive in excess of $130 million in financial aid at Missouri State. Students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for all available types of financial aid.

This guide describes sources of aid available to entering freshmen and transfer students on the Springfield campus. While it attempts to answer common financial aid questions, we encourage you to call or visit our office for additional information.

Personal expenses will vary according to your lifestyle. The Office of Student Financial Aid estimates the cost of transportation, automobile maintenance, insurance, recreation, clothing and other personal expenses will average $3,740 per year.

* Required student fees include basic fees (charge per credit hour) and student services fees ($389 per semester). These fees are commonly referred to as tuition. The fees listed above are based on 15 credit hours per semester. The basic fee is $194 per credit hour for Missouri residents.

** The rate represents our room-style residence halls with a dining plan of 19 meals per week.

my Payment PlanThe University provides the My Payment Plan for required student fees and room and board. Under this plan, you may pay these charges in three monthly installments. The interest rate is 1 percent per month on the unpaid balance.

The My Payment Plan will work in conjunction with any financial aid or scholarship you may receive. You may learn more about how the payment plan will work with your financial aid by contacting the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Applying for scholarshipsTo apply for most University scholarships, you need only to submit an application for admission to the University by Jan. 15. This deadline is for students entering in the fall semester. Students entering in the spring semester must apply for admission and relevant scholarships by Oct. 1. Separate applications are required for some programs and are specified throughout this guide. Applications are available online at www.missouristate.edu/financialaid, from the offices of Admissions and Student Financial Aid, and from Missouri high schools. Applications must be received by the specified deadline for each program. Recipients will be notified of most scholarship awards upon admission to the University. GED students and students admitted as exceptions to the high school core curriculum requirement will not receive scholarships unless approved by the Scholarship Committee. Formal appeals for special scholarship consideration should be directed to the Assistant Director of Scholarships, Office of Student Financial Aid.

General information The following general information applies to all of the scholarships listed in the following pages.■■ Grade point averages (GPAs) are based on a 4.00 scale.

In determining scholarship eligibility, grade point averages will be rounded to the nearest 0.01.

■■ If your high school provides both a weighted and an unweighted GPA, we will use the higher of the two to determine your eligibility for scholarships.

■■ Unless otherwise noted, class percentile and GPA are based on the sixth or seventh semester transcript, whichever is higher.

■■ Students must have a diploma from a high school accredited by the state education agency, a regional accrediting association or a home-school diploma with the 17-unit core curriculum requirement established by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

■■ Students who are provisionally accepted to the University may not be considered for scholarships.

■■ Scores from the December ACT/SAT are the last to be accepted for most freshman scholarships (with the exception of the Presidential, the Multicultural Leadership and the Centennial Leaders scholarships, which use an earlier date).

■■ Missouri State SAT requirements are based on a sum of the Critical Reading and Mathematics sub scores. The Writing score is not included in evaluation.

■■ Freshman scholarships are limited to students who enter Missouri State the calendar year they graduate from high school. Students who graduate early from high school and attend Missouri State may be considered for freshman scholarships on an individual basis. Scholarship requirements and deadlines will still apply.

■■ Transfer scholarships are limited to students who will enter the University having completed the required number of transferable college credit subsequent to graduation from high school.

■■ Current students are not eligible to apply for entering student scholarships.

■■ Students may accept or decline scholarship offers until June 1 for the fall semester or Jan. 1 for the spring semester.

■■ Unless otherwise noted, scholarships cannot be combined and are only renewable for up to three additional years (eight semesters total).

A+ scholarship

The A+ Scholarship, administered by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, is designed for students attending Missouri community colleges (two-year associate-degree granting institutions). Because the Springfield campus of Missouri State University does not fall in that category, students cannot use their A+ benefits on this campus.

The Missouri State University system, however, includes a two-year campus in West Plains (approximately 100 miles east of Springfield). Students who are certified as A+ eligible may use their A+ benefits to attend the West Plains campus. Students who enroll at the West Plains campus have the opportunity to transfer seamlessly to the Springfield campus.

Applying for financial aidIn order to be considered for all possible financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available from the Office of Student Financial Aid or your high school or community college in January of each year. To submit your FAFSA online, visit www.fafsa.gov. Complete the FAFSA in time for it to be received by the processor prior to March 31. Applications will be accepted after this date, but funds may be limited. To make sure your FAFSA is sent to Missouri State, you must list Missouri State as one of the schools to receive your results. The Missouri State federal school code is 002503.

After you submit your application for financial aid, you will be notified that your FAFSA was received. This acknowledgement will include your Student Aid Report (SAR). Read this information carefully to make sure it is accurate. If it is not, make the necessary corrections and return it to the processor. You may contact the processing center at 800-4FED-AID (800-433-3243) for assistance.

Federal regulations require Missouri State to verify information reported on the FAFSA for randomly selected students. For this reason, some applicants will be required to submit photocopies of their income tax returns to the Office of Student Financial Aid. Using a formula established by Congress, the FAFSA determines how much you and your family are expected to provide toward the cost of your education each year. This formula takes into consideration family income and assets, family size, the number of children in college and many other factors to determine your annual Expected Family Contribution (EFC). If you feel the information reported on the FAFSA does not reflect your family’s true financial situation, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for a special circumstances form.

After determining your EFC, we will calculate your financial aid award. In April, eligible first-time students will receive notice that an online award letter has been created for them. This online award letter will list the types and amount of assistance that can be offered from Missouri State. You must access this award letter via the “My Missouri State” system at Missouri State and either accept or decline the aid offered before your funds will be released. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to remain eligible for aid.

Many federal aid programs are available on the basis of financial need (defined as the difference between the amount of money you and your family can contribute toward financing your education and the total cost of attendance). Eligibility for these programs can be determined only after evaluation of your family’s

The University maintains a Student Employment Service to assist enrolled students in locating jobs. Students may register with this office and be referred to jobs that are compatible with their schedules and work experience. This pre-screening and referral service is free and available throughout the year. The Student Employment Service Office is located in Blair-Shannon House, Room 113, at 417-836-5627.

Scholarships awarded to student athletes participating in various sports. The regulations governing athletic aid are established by the NCAA.

This program allows students the opportunity to earn while they learn, integrating academic study with career-related employment. Hundreds of Missouri State students participate in co-op and departmental internships with local, regional and national organizations. Missouri State co-op students often go to work full-time for their co-op employers following graduation.

Scholarships from academic departments to students with declared majors. In addition, the University provides funds for students involved in the performing arts (art, band, choir, dance, forensics, orchestra and theatre).

Scholarships from private sources such as civic and professional organizations, businesses and corporations, unions and clubs. (If you receive a private scholarship, you should contact the Office of Student Financial Aid to apply the funds to your account and to determine if the award will affect your other aid.)

A program of the United States Army designed to recruit and educate commissioned officers. ROTC is an elective part of the college curriculum and interested students earn college credit while they participate. Students are later absorbed into the United States Army. ROTC scholarships may include up to $17,000 toward required student fees per year, a $600 book allowance and a $250 stipend per month. Room and board is not included.

Employment on campus or in the community is available to many Missouri State students. Approximately 2,000 students work part-time on campus and more than 6,000 hold part-time jobs off campus.
