Palisades Park SMART Goals Provide a duty-free lunch period for every teacher on a daily basis.

Provide duty-free instructional planning time for every teacher under G.S. 115C-105.27 and -301.1, with the goal of proving an average of at

least five hours of planning time per week, to the maximum extent that the safety and proper supervision of students may allow during regular

student contact hours.

Provide a positive school climate, under CMS regulation JICK-R, by promoting a safe learning environment free of bullying and harassing

behaviors.

The percentage of students scoring grade level proficient on the North Carolina End of Grade Test (Reading) will increase by 3% from the

previous NC EOG (Reading) scores.

The percentage of students scoring grade level proficient on the North Carolina End of Grade Test (Math) will increase by 3% from the previous

NC EOG (Math) scores.

Palisades Park will continue to work toward becoming rated as “prepared” by adding two additional areas on the North Carolina STEM Attribute

Implementation Rubric.

Palisades Park Profile

This narrative should include a description of student and staff demographics, recent achievement(s), and staff

qualifications.

Palisades Park Elementary is in its third year. Our school is located in southwest Charlotte near Lake Wylie. Our

attendance area includes many large neighborhoods like River Pointe, The Palisades, Waterlyn, Sterling-Steele Creek,

McDowell Place, River Oaks, Royal Oaks and Montreaux. In addition, we are a partial magnet with 25 seats per grade

level open to students who are not in the school’s attendance zone. Palisades Park is a STEM (Science Technology

Engineering Math) school. Emphasis is put on integrating the Engineering Design Process. We currently have 771

students

Student Demographics for our school are: Caucasian 38%, African-American 38%, Hispanic 15%, other 4%.

Approximately 37% of students are economically disadvantaged. Our student population includes 62 students identified as

TD (Talent Development), 59 SWD (Students with Disabilities), and 45 LEP (Limited English Proficient).

A number of experienced teachers are assigned to Palisades Park Elementary. Currently, there are 32 certified classroom

teachers, 8 teacher assistants, 2 full time EC teachers, 1 EC assistant, 1 Assistant Principal, 1 Principal, 1 School

Counselor, 1 Speech/Language Pathologist, 1 part time School Psychologist, 1 TD teacher, a .7 part time ESL teacher, 1

Technology Associate, 1 Media Specialist, 1 Science Lab Teacher, 1 Art teacher, 1 Physical Education teacher, 1 Music

teacher, 1 Literacy Facilitator, 1 Science Lead teacher, and 1 Math Lead teacher. All staff at PPES are identified as Highly

Qualified. In addition, we have 8 staff members holding a master’s degree, 4 who are National Board Certified, and 4 who

have dual licensure or additional certification.
