A Paper A Day… Takes Your Breath Away! In 2009, the average North American consumed almost 5 times as much paper as the world average, 30 times as much paper as a person living in Africa and almost 6 times as a person living in Asia. A “Cleantech” study cited that purchasing three e-books per month for four years produces roughly 168 Kilograms of CO2 throughout the Kindles lifestyle, compared to the estimated 1074 Kilograms of CO2 produced by the same number of printed books. Switching from virgin to recycled content paper reduces net greenhouse gas emission by 47% and total energy consumption by 27%. Princeton used 1000 tons (400,000 reams) of office paper last year. Only 7% contained post-consumer content!
